Flotec 3/4 Hp Submersible Sump Pump,
October 6, 2006
By Griff

"This is truly the last sump pump you will need top buy. Its very quiet and very easy to install. With the lifetime warranty, i think its worth paying 50 to 60 dollars more, compared to a less expensive pump that you will have to replace in a few years. I'm keeping the original box and reciept in the crawl space by the pump, so if it ever fails i will have the reciept to have it replaced free of charge. It's also a great selling feature if you ever sell your home. The Bimford 5000 of the sump pump world."

Proved to be strong for 8 years,
March 27, 2009

"I bought this pump in 2000. Used it as a sump for a number of years and subsequently to drain the pool. All in all it was a strong performer until it died today 3/26/09. As with another reviewer, mine did have the connection shoot off in the middle of a storm, filling my basement like a bathtub for hours until my wife realized it and had to call the fire department since I was out of town. What a mess, but to be honest, it was a huge amount of rain, and the pump had been going forever, Im sure the connection just worked its way out with the constant pressure. Besides, I think my wife enjoyed the guys from the station saving the day. Lesson learned: Make sure its extra tight! Perhaps using some adhesive to assist. Im not sure it put out as much GPH as it claims, but it always did the job for me. With the lifetime warranty and no receipt, Flotec gave me no problems on the phone and after a few troubleshooting questions, they had me take off the product sticker and cord tag and fax a copy in. Replacement within 7 days. Simple as that. Of course, if you are in a jam, you're stuck, but then again, 2nd day air wouldnt help you in that kind of situation anyway, so 7 days is reasonable. In Summary: I feel a $200 price is justified and I'd buy it again, but luckily, with a lifetime warranty, I'll never have to!"

Once bitten....,

"I had big expectations for this product, based on previous reviews, not to mention the hefty $220 price tag.
As my 17+ year-old "el cheapo" pump finally died, I figured I had nowhere to go but up. I placed my online order (it was not available at the store), paid for express shipping, and the next day installed the pump. Since the waste piping exits the top of this pump, I also had to cut my existing piping to fit this "non-standard" arrangement.
Imagine my surprise when at the point of testing (which required a ridiculous amount of water in the sump basin), the pump only hummed - the *plastic* impeller was seized up in the housing. After numerous calls to get RMA numbers (including one to Flotec where the rep actually had me partially disassemble the unit), I finally got permission to dry off/clean up and ship the unit back for credit.
Was this one of those unforseen, one-in-a-thousand out-of-box failures that isn't representative of the product? Probably so, but it sure put a damper on my perception of this "top of the line" pump."

The real truth about a Sump Pump warranty!,
January 14, 2007
By Benad

"I've owned this Flotec model for 2.75 years. I bought this last Flotec model due to its better warranty and capability. (I used to work for their competitor years ago. I feel Flotec is a good brand.)
I paid $50 more for the better warranty and pump. I thought it would last at least 5 years. Let's discuss the life time warranty. You have to send the old unit back for Flotec first. What about your flooding basement in the mean time?
Thankfully, I have a battery back-up unit. This unit wasn't made for main full time pumping duties. It got me through the night and until I could buy the replacement.
Bottom line. Don't pay for the extra $ for this pump and its life time warranty. Who can wait for Flotec to send a replacement? Buy a lower cost unit from your local Home Depot and get a back-up pump or the battery back-up unit.
The warranty is selling feature, but not much use. My pumps go out when I'm on vacation or in the wee hours on the weekend. The warranty only works when you don't need the pump. Be Well."

Stars for easy installation,
November 6, 2006

"I don't know how the unit will hold up over time yet, but it is very easy to install. There are three pictures on the box: put in the pipe, put the unit in the sump hole, and plug it in. That's about it. The pump comes with a handy clamp fitting for hooking the unit up to an existing pipe. I'd suggest replacing the stopcock fitting (that you buy separately) at the same time-it's cheap and if it is old and cracks while you're doing the installation, it will take much longer to get the job done. Also, you don't want to be "done", only to find out the stopcock doesn't keep the reverse-flow from occurring. Don't worry whether you have 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 pipe: the fittings work with either."
