Just replaced this model with a Badger 5 3/4hp. The Badger 1 lasted for 12 years, with daily use, before finally giving out. I was very pleased with it's performance. I hope the Badger 5 I just purchased will last as long as the Badger 1 it replaced.

11 Year old model that was installed when we bought the house. It started to rust up and after being on vacation for 2 weeks we came back and it was all seized up. Even when using the wrench to turn the shaft it made an awful scraping noise. The grinding blades no longer swiveled so it wasn't grinding any food.
Old unit was very easy to remove. Since I needed to replace the rubber "mouting gasket" [that black rubber thing in the sink], I removed everything. The new unit came with all the parts including a new gasket. It was easy to mount the sink colar and then install the unit. The drain pipe was a slight bit different but all I needed was a new plastic compression fitting and I was finished in less than 30 mins. Just take a pic of your piping before you go to the store if you are replacing an old unit or you may need to take a 2nd trip.
New unit is quiet and chews up the food just fine.

The first one rusted out. It came original with the house and lasted 10 years although I barely used it. I replaced it with the same unit and it lasted 2 years with average use. Rust not an issue, but cracks and holes that created small leaks. As I've read more recent reviews on this product, my guess is quality present in older units is now absent in newer ones. I'll try a GE this time thanks...

I just bought my house a year ago and the old Disposer got busted . The house is 4years and I'm assuming it lasted for 4years . I just replaced with the same brand/size. Note that new one doesn't come with electric cable - which was a surprised me - so you need to take the cable from the old one. It remained to see if it's a good value or not ..

The ISE Badger 1, 5 and 9 do NOT include the power cord nor the black rubber gasket necessary to install the disposal to the collar and thus the sink. i purchased the Badger 9 and previously had the Badger 5 in my house. The gasket and cord (if not hard wired) are NOT included and are available for extra $. I would have thought these basics would be included like ISE competitors Waste King, GE, Kitch Aide do already.

Home Depot had the Badger 1 prominently displayed and readily available. There was a slight modification between the original Badger 1 and the new one. The discharge connection was flush on the original and recessed on the replacement which necessitated a second visit to the Home Depot for a longer connecting plastic pipe. Installation was simple and quick.

We had a 1/2 HP Badger disposal that lasted 6 years. The sidewall cracked and of course leaked. I replaced it with this 1/3 HP unit. I felt 1/3 HP was adequate as there are only 2 of us and we never grind bones. (the dog loves us). Installation was a snap. Just hook up power cord, twist on the bracket, hook up plumbing, plug it in and go. This unit seems quieter. Don't know if that is because it is new or because of the lower HP. Whatever, it works great.

We are replacing our Badger 1 1/3 horsepower with a Badger 5 1/2 horsepower. Our Badger 1 lasted 21 years. At that rate we should not have to replace our garbage disposal again in our lifetime. We have used it several times a day and we had teenagers/young adults who could care less what they threw down there. For the price I don't know how you can go wrong.

What a piece of garbage. I bought 8 in last couple of years for my rental. Most work forever but steel grinding chamber rusts out and start leaking major time. Last one I bought 10 months ago, just froze solid. I had plumber install it and have no receipt. Total loss. I can’t believe how rusted grinding chamber was after 10 months. Will upgrade to competitor model that is stainless steel inside and similarly priced. I guess water and regular steel do not mix well. InSinkErator modes with stainless steel is 3 times more that this model

This seemed like a good product. After 14 years, the motor was still working well. The problem was that a leak developed, so it needed to be replaced. I didn't see any noticible holes or cracks (except the upper "sloped" part of the unit had a slice or crack on the inside.) I suspect the leak was probably coming from the output tube connection...there was a lot of gunk build up when I took it apart. Otherwise the unit worked well for 14 years and seized up maybe 4 to 5 times. Each time I was able to unseize it using the provided allen key. I admit it was somewhat noisy, but it was in the kitchen and you only run it for several seconds at a time, no big deal. Overall pretty happy with the performance. Replaced with a Kenmore 3/4 hp - supposedly it has a 7 year warranty and is made by InSinkerator.
