"Going to go buy another one tomorrow... Actually the unit still works and just makes a bearing noise so I'll buy another for ease of installation... Cost me $ 2.38 per year to own or ,01 cent every two days..."

Long Lasting,
January 10, 2010
By Dado7
"Just replaced my Badger 1 after 16 years of faithful service. My wife wanted to replace our kitchen sink and faucet. I decided to replace the old disposal along with them. The old disposal still works fine, so I suppose I'll keep it as a spare."

Badger,

"I bought this disposal for the price and because the sales associate said it would be easy to install myself. It was easy to install; my 14 year old son and I installed it ourselves! I'm pleased because it does the job!"

Long Lasting,
November 29, 2009
By More4Nana
from Zephyrhills, FL
"I purchased this same disposal in 1995. Back several months ago, my husband accidently put a spoon done it and one of the blades broke off, but I didn't know it until it was to late. This machine eats everything, except silverware. I'm buying this one again as it is the best disposal I've ever had and I hate being without one. For the money you are getting a GREAT disposal!!!"

Housing Cracks,
October 4, 2009
By Anonymous
from Las Vegas Baby
"I have had this model since the house was new (about 8 years). It has been a great, trouble free product.
The wife noticed a foul smell under the sink the other day. We too, are victims of the plastic housing cracking and dripping nasty water into our storage tub kept under the sink. It looked like toilet water.
Do I run to Depot and buy another one? Probably. Good luck and check for cracks where the top and bottom meet.

Replacing my old corroded one with the same thing.,
August 2, 2009
By BobbyNv
from Henderson, NV
"The first one lasted 12 years and now I am replacing it with the same Badger 1. The water here in Nevada is so corrosive it eats away the insides of most anything. I noticed water inside my base cabinet and found several holes in the side of the disposer case. I was told the cases are the same on all the Badgers so I went back to the cheapest one. Works great...."

Worked great...buying another!,
July 21, 2009

"I'm headed to Home Depot to buy this same model right after I finish this review. This model was installed in our home by our builder 11 years ago and FINALLY needs replacing. The housing developed a small hole and is leaking. Other than a few jams here and there that were easlily fixed we have not had any problems with our Badger 1 disposal. We never put bones in the disposal but with 2 kids who knows what has been put in there. It has worked just fine for 11 years. I definitely got my money's worth. I never thought it was very loud but then it's only on for a few seconds. Not worth spending a lot of money for something hidden under sink and used occasionally. I've already removed the old one and the new one should be a cinch to install."

quieter than last one,

"Installed 1/3 hp disposer not hard to do It took 1 hr. It doesn't come with the connection that plugs into the outlet so make sure you pull that off your old unit. It is quieter than the last disposal I had in, not bad for the $ that I paid."

Badger 1,
June 22, 2009
By jandr2009

"We have had this disposer for about 3 to 4 years. It works pretty well and seems to do the job for us. It stopped working all of a sudden a few days ago and all it needed was for us to use the special tool to rotate the blades a little and that unclogged it. If it gets stuck, try to unclog first before thinking it is broken. The tool is very handy."

"I bought a brand new house customed built and this brand of garbage disposal came with the house. This product lasted exactly one year from when the house was built. I am on my way of buying the same product. I hope it lasts up to two years at least"

1/3 HP Badger Disposer,
May 20, 2009
By Error
from Denver, Colorado
"1/3 HP Badger Disposer
Purchased last unit May 20, 2004
These units are in our income properties. These units are replaced about once every four to five years.
Over the last 15 years. All have failed due to cracked housing. The motors have never failed before the housings. This unit has increased in price by $20.00 since the last time I replaced one. I do not believe the unit I will replace this one with will last more then 4 to 5 years.
Water, waste, chemicals or what ever you pour down your disposal will effect even the most expensive disposals on the market. Average cost at the 79.00 prices plus tax no labor is about 16.00 to 20.00 dollars per year.

Well it does work...,
May 12, 2009
By elcheapo

"Well it does work, but it vibrates my entire sink so violently that the soap dispenser falls off the ledge and into the sink when you turn it on.
You can skimp on so many places in life but your disposal should not one of them; do yourself a favor and pay a few bucks more and get a unit that is sound insulated and does not vibrate your entire sink when you turn it on."

Badger 1,
May 11, 2009
By PaintHorse
from Delaware
"I have a septic system so I put next to nothing into a garbage disposal, so I saw no reason to buy a bigger more expensive model. But, I do want the convenience of a disposal...I put in a new sink and wanted to replace the old garbage disposal too. My old disposal was really loud---it was old. The Badger 1 is not one of the quietest models that is offered, but when I turned it on....it was so much quieter than what I was used to hearing from the old model. Both my husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the reduction in noise. If you have a septic system, but still want a garbage disposal, I highly recommend this disposer. Hopefully, I will remain happy with it as years go by. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the housing doesn't crack as some users have posted that theirs has. For the money and for my usage, I don't think I could have made a better purchase."

What I expected,
January 8, 2009
By Soupys
from Haymarket, VA
"This product was installed in my newly constructed house just over four and a half years ago. I now have to replace it because the housing has a crack in it which is causing a leak under the sink when the water is turned on. The motor still works fine and will grind anything that we normally dispose of. We have never used the disposal unit to grind bones or anything hard. We mostly just grind peels and the soft scraps from dinner plates. I cannot explain the crack in the housing; however, considering the very low cost of the unit, I think 4.5 years for the unit is not too bad.
I agree with most of the other reviewers that the unit is pretty loud when in use, but this appliance is not used for more than seven seconds at a time, unlike a vacuum cleaner or a loud dishwasher. For the price of this unit, I do not think it should be a surprise that it is not the quietest or the most reliable unit out there. It is exactly what I would expect for the money, and to that end it does the job that it is meant to do. I would recommend the Badger 1 to someone who doesn't care if they have the "Top of the Line" appliance, which probably will never be seen by guests, and who is looking for an economical garbage disposal unit to install."

It works, and it's inexpensive.,
January 6, 2008
By BuyerLiz

"I originally was going to buy the flashy new Insinkerators, but then I thought, all I'm doing it sticking it under my sink for no one to see! I've put all kinds of things down here and have had no problems. It is a little loud, but you get what you pay for. For the savings, I don't mind a little noise every now and again. Great buy!"

Wonderful product,

"We had this product installed in our home as it was being built 15 years ago. It has worked wonderfully, all but untill about 2 months ago when it just quit. However any product that will last 15 years with no problems it a good product to me. I would recomend this product to anyone that wants a good price and durability."
