Great design, very flexible.
I have installed dozens of these throughout my mothers house on all kinds of furniture. My mother is on the edge of her “elderly” years, so I wanted to make the furniture she frequently moves (tables, cabinets, benches, etc etc) easier to move around. These made it very easy to do so.
A nice thing about cabinets, or Kitchen islands, is that they usually have a hallow bottom. What this means is you can install wheels like this, with only an inch (for carpet) or a quarter inch) for tile/hard surfaces, hanging farther out. In other words, you don’t even see the wheels, and the furniture item is magically easy to move.
I have used this in a lower cabinet with a counter top in the laundry room and it works great. I’ve used this in a Kitchen Island as well. The Island with the Marble counter top, Dozens of pans, utensils, etc etc, is easily near 1000 pounds, and 8 of these hold it up, and support it effortlessly. The smooth movement (including rolling, and spinning) make it seem like a 50 pound object when pushing it. It’s a world of difference. Not to mention they don’t cut up the tile as simply sliding such a large and heavy object would. I’ve used this in plenty of other objects on both hardwood and carpet surfaces, and it’s great.
As far as price, it seems high, but these things are constructed with pure steel, and dense rubber/plastic (on the wheels) They are built to last, built to stay smooth in movements, and considering the amount of metal and precision moldings, the price is actually fair. The parts consist of the wheel, a bolt+nut to hold it in place, the mount for the wheel, the plate to fasten it to an object, roughly a dozen ball bearings between the plate and the wheel mount, and a large rivet to hold them together. Also grease in the ball bearings to keep them smooth.
The wheels with the side locks are best for hardwood surfaces. Carpet surfaces they usually settle into the carpet and don’t move, where as hardwood, they are easily movable. Especially if you have kids, large dogs, or high traffic areas that will likely have creatures of some kind bumping into them. Usually however, you don’t need all of the wheels to have the locks on them. If you have 4 wheels, only two of them need the locks. If you have 8, only maybe 4 of them need locks, saves a few bucks.
Note, these are best fastened with bolts+nuts. The holes on them are 1/4th inch wide, much wider then a traditional screw. I highly recommend using “Tee Nuts” if using these in furniture. Much nicer and flatter surface then Hex Nuts. For more info on “Tee Nuts” Type “Tee Nuts” into the home depot search engine and you will see 12 different sizes. I have a detailed review that you will find on any of the 12 Tee Nut pages.
Maintenance. There really is no maintenance in these things. They are built very strong; I doubt they’d ever break, unless you simply wore down the wheels, which would require plenty of miles of use, and on rough surfaces. Aside from that, if it is in a dirty environment (maybe a workshop, or outdoors) the ball bearings are the most likely part to be effected. In which case, just get a synthetic grease to keep them lubricated. Maybe WD-40 or something.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I used this swivel caster along with rigid ones to make a dolly used to move a large cabinet that I was building. This allowed me to move it from sanding area to painting area with ease.
Yes, I recommend this product.
