DuraPlus 6 in. Through-The-Wall Chimney Stove Vent Kit

DuraPlus is designed to stay cool on the outside, to provide a hot draft on the inside, to boost stove efficiency, and to provide for a fire-safe design that protects both the chimney and the building. This triple-wall chimney features two insulating layers (ceramic blanket, plus air space). The ceramic blanket insulation is held securely in position, eliminating hot spots common with loose-fill type insulations. In the event of a creosote fire, the compressible blanket insulation permits the chimney liner to expand outwardly in a radial direction. Designed for normal, continuous operation at 1000 degree F flue gas temperatures, DuraPlus is subjected to rigorous and stringent HT requirements of the UL standard, including one hour at 1400 degrees F, plus three ten minute chimney fire tests at 2100 degrees F.

Used one of these a few years ago, going to install a new wood stove in another location.
I was reading this review and I had to comment.
The kit does not make it hard to install, everything in the kit snaps together. cutting holes in walls and roofs is a pain, running ling lengths of pipe might be a pain, but there is nothing "difficult" about the kit.
Instructions are "unclear" because every house is different. If it is not clear, you need a professional install.
As far as what it contains, what does
"•Includes a wall thimble, one 9 in. x 6 in. horizontal chimney pipe, 1 tee with clean-out cap, 1 tee support, 2 wall straps and 1 chimney cap
•Supports up to 40 ft. of DuraPlus chimney pipe (not included)"
mean to you?
Oh, and this is $50 cheaper than Tractor Supply's sale price.
Pros: Economical

No, I do not recommend this product.
The 9" through wall pipe you are supposed to use is worthless. it seems just about everyone needs a 12" The "directions" are worthless, and vague. Some better instructions would be great.

I had a few issues with the support tee. the upper mounting flange had to b slid under the trim piece making it impossible to use the holes for bolting it on. also the mounting holes are to narrow to hit the studs in the wall. so with some mods I finally got it installed and feel safe with it so I guess that's the main thing.

No, I do not recommend this product.
The picture online shows the adjustable wall straps but what they send you is the cheaper ones that you have to use shims with. The pipe that goes through the wall thimble is too short for a 2x6 stud wall with 5/8" sheetrock inside and 3/4" sheathing with any siding. After spending over $320, you have to buy a 12" pipe to make it work. Still waiting for my 12" ($50.00) pipe to arrive. :<

Best price I could find. And delivered too. Instructions aren't the best. Not simply illustrated. No step-by-step instructions. Small vague illustrations and a jumbled mess of very basic instructions. First, you'll have to search for your specific style of install. And just read it through several time to decipher what they're trying to say. Then figure out how it should come together for your particular house/setup. I'll have to customize to fit my house. Tee Support piece ( once fastened to side of house OSB ) has built in 2 inch offset to allow for 2 inch clearance to combustibles. How about my vinyl siding which adds 1/2 inch thickness? No clearance allowed for that. ?? So I'll have to space the Tee Support away from the house with some OSB to maintain the 2 inch clearance. Small problems like this may have you scratching your head. But if you are DIY person, you'll finger out how pieces will fall together. Oh... and everything is NOT included in kit for install. You'll need non-hardening waterproof sealant, 8 penny nails, lag screws, roofing nails and maybe some electrical conduit if your chimney estends 4 feet or more above roof.
Pros: Great Value

Great product. Quality is good. Only issue is the installation directions are not that clear. However, you should be able to figure it out with relative ease.

I had to retrofit this to a metal building but it all went together well. Some default measurements would have been nice but I was able to figure out where to cut and / or drill the holes.

It does not come with chimney pipe sections, it only includes the parts needed to go through the wall and the spark arrestor. The instructions are vague at best, pictures are small and not detailed.
Pros: Good Size & Weight, Seals Well, Good Shape, Great Value, High Quality, Economical, Light Weight
Cons: Difficult to Install
