Steel Water Heater Element Wrench

This Steel Water Heater Element Wrench helps you easily install and remove water heater elements. Zinc plated for durability, the wrench fits screw-in elements and 1-1/2 in. nuts. The 5 in. throat reaches many offsets that an adjustable wrench cannot reach.

No, I do not recommend this product.
As mentioned above, this wrench doesn't fit. Using a normal 1 1/2 socket and a breaker bar got one element out, but the other one was stripped by trying to use this piece of garbage. It's too loose, and slips, and thus strips.
Now I have to buy a new water heater because of this wrench. So it wasn't just merely worthless, it was destructive.
Cons: doesn't work and will ruin element

Better off using a large socket

No, I do not recommend this product.
I tried this on an older water heater where the element was rusted. The element wouldn't even budge. Wound up using a large socket and a breaker bar to replace the element.

No, I do not recommend this product.
The wrench is too large to fit heater element. Ended up using a 1 1/2" socket.

I read through the other posts before going to the store and purchasing. I spoke to one of the plumbing employees who has been in the business for 25 years and said these work fine. Part of my decision to purchase it was 1.5 inch socket isn't carried by Home Depot so thought I would give it a try. It worked. I was not thrilled about using a screwdriver to get leverage to unscrew. That was awkward and can see how that would make it difficult to get stuck elements out. I see how the 1.5 socket would be better for that. The plumbing employee said the metal is software so would be more prone to strip.
I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

This little tool made installing a new element simple. Without it, we would have been considering an entirely new water heater instead of a $10 part. Well worth the money
