"Not too loud. I live in an old house with old windows and in the winter my house gets pretty cold. The heater has done the trick."

heater broke,
October 18, 2009
By lcsylvester

"I too had the heater break on me halfway through the second winter we had it (purchased spring 2005). I live in South Louisiana where we don't have extremely cold winters and our winters only last about 3 months, so it did not get much use. I was going to replace the entire unit but after reading the other review about the heater going out, thought it might be a better idea (easier too) to give Nutone a call. We have been using an electric space heater as needed but we have a new baby who will be crawling soon and need a safer solution to heating our bathroom."

Overall ... Pretty Good,
January 6, 2009

"I bought this as a replacement for my 25 year old NuTone Bath fan and so
far so good. Good Heat and Vent function but a little louder than I
heard at the store demo. Wish you could get the compact flourescent
version of a 100 watt in but it just doesn't quit clear. You can spend
more on quiter units but unless you plan to sleep in the bath room it
should do fine.

"This product works great. The heater is good for a small bath. The product is designed to be installed for new construction, but with a little extra effort can be used for a replacement."

Heater failed on 665RP purchased in June 2006,
February 20, 2008
By LeoSD

"I would give Nutone 665RP fan-heater-light combination five stars out of five for performance. It’s quiet and the heater takes the chill off our 8’x12’ bathroom.
Unfortunately the heater quit working after eighteen months of service. This was on a unit purchased in June 2006. The white 110 volt wire melted or broke off at the solderless connector that fastens to the heater assembly. There was no obvious explanation why the wire failed. For example, there was no lint buildup that might have blocked air flow and caused the wire to overheat. When I talked to the technical support person at Nutone he recommended replacing the original heater assembly (black plastic housing) with the new and improved assembly, S97017648, which has a metal housing, a different heater element configuration, and which looks significantly more substantial.
The cost of the replacement heater assembly was more than half of what I originally paid for the 665RP, but the good news was that it’s very easy to change out the heater assembly. Just remove the grill by removing the lens, lightbulb, and one screw in the reflector directly above the bulb. Then unplug the heater assembly and remove one screw to release it from the main housing.
As I said the unit I had trouble with was purchased in June 2006. It’s possible that current models come with the improved (metal) heater assembly."
