I bought this for my pre-teen daughter, as she is reluctant to use the "fancy" machine I use. She loves the Sew Mini, and was constantly at the machine from Christmas day on. The slower speed and size of the machine were very well received by her. I am looking forward to the durability of the machine, it is a Janome after all! I plan to have it for taking to classes, etc, as others have stated when my daughter has decided she can handle the fancy machine, as the Sew Mini is consistent with feed and stitch quality.
This is a good basic machine. It does have only one speed and no light, but has multiple stitches. With an ott-type light, it is perfect for the young (or old) beginner, or for your "travel" machine.

We bought this sewing machine for our 8 year old for Christmas. It has worked wonderfully and she loves it. The only 2 things I would like to see on it is a light and some kind of needle guard for young sewers. My husband make one for the machine and it works nicely!!

Bought this Janome sewing machine for my granddaughter (8). She loves it. I also purchased one for me to take on vacation for mini sewing projects. It is light weight and very portable. The setup was easy, basic stitches (2), and foot pedal was easy for child to control. It would be perfect but missing a light. It will sew light weight fabrics, cards or paper projects.

I gave this to my 7 year old granddaughter. It was very easy to sew with. That is all we did for 4 days was sew and even mend. She quickly learned how to change the thread so every project had a different color. My 5 year granddaughter sewed with the machine as well. I love the compact size and light weight.

After reading all the reviews this machine was purchased for my 8yr old daughter who wanted to learn to sew. I was skeptical about letting her learn on my machine since she is vigorous and breaks things w/o intention. She LOVES this machine! It is simpe to use and she is making custom ordered dolls for her classmates. What a great find!

I read all the reviews. I knew it didn't have a light, or a thread cutter. I knew it was a very basic machine. I wanted it for paper crafting and for it's compact size for travel. What I didn't know is that the machine runs so slowly. There are no speed buttons or switches. I soon became very frustrated with it and knew it's preformance wasn't for me. If you're not in a hurry, it a nice little machine.

Other than not having a Light, On and Off switch, and only one slow speed, this is a great little machine. Perfect for beginners, for taking to classes and for small quilt pieces. Although I wanted it to go faster at times, I really LOVE this little machine and am so glad I purchased it!

My wife and I bought this sewing machine for our nine year old grand daughter. The box says 'this is not a toy' and that certainly seems to be the case. My wife is an experienced quilter and was very impressed with how simple and easy it was to use while providing a consistent, high quality stitch. It certainly does not have all of the features of her high end Bernina but it seems to be the perfect first machine for our grand daughter.

nice to take to quilting bee. i am the second person in the small bee to get one. needs a light. it is nosey. sews well and so easy to transport. we are both happy with it. the manual is easy to read in large print and very clear on instructions thank you home depot

I had high hopes for this little machine. I had read mostly good reviews. This machine has been nothing but trouble for me. I can't get it to stitch more then a couple of stitches before it jams up. I have changed the bobbin and needle multiple times and it doesn't makes a difference. My advice is don't buy it!

I did a lot of research on this product and was pleased that it came out of the box exactly as described. The cons of the machine (no light, no measuring lines on the footplate) are all easily remedied and don't take away from the machine at all. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I purchased this little machine specifically to sew for my card and scrapbooking hobby, where I only need straight or zig zag stitching. (I own a regular sewing machine for fabric, but paper messes with the tension too much). This one works terrific on papercrafts, although I also have used it to repair clothing (and it works fine there also). I loved that it was so lightweight for travel to crops! It is easy to operate but I wish it had a light.

The little machine does a great job. It works perfect to take back and forth to my quilting group. I just wish that it had a light, otherwise no complaints.

This machine is perfect for my purpose, which is piecing quilt blocks at my desk. I doubt it would serve me as my ONLY sewing machine, but, for what I wanted, it is ideal. Sturdy, operates nicely, and doesn't convey that "this is a piece of junk" feeling.

Purchased this little machine for my granddaughter who is longing to "quilt like Grandma". It is just perfect for her. I own a Janome myself and this is why I bought this machine. I am not disappointed in anyway with this product. I highly recommend the product.
