18 Volt Grass Trimmer

No bumping or turning off the motor to hassle with hand feeding string; Black & Decker's 18-volt cordless string trimmer features the company's exclusive Automatic Feed Spool (AFS) system that automatically advances cutting string without bumping. By letting centrifugal force feed the trimmer line as it is needed, you get a smooth consistent length of line for optimal performance. Battery-powered, this cordless string trimmer has the capacity to trim grass after mowing for up to a 1/2-acre home site on a single charge of both included 18-volt batteries. Quiet and easy to start, the unit requires no gas, oil, or tune-ups. The Grasshog's Groom 'N' Edge head rotates 180 degrees to convert the trimmer to an edger with a push of a button. When used as an edger, the flip-down edge guide keeps the Grasshog in line with sidewalks and driveways. A secondary handle adjusts for increased comfort and control. A lock-off switch prevents accidental start-ups to ensure safe usage every time.

We just purchased this product and so far it's working great except for the battery part. The product comes with 2 batteries and we have charged them more than adequate time but each battery only last approximately 10 to 15 minutes running time. I guess not all products work the same, obviously we got the defective batteries, which we intend to return and exchange for the new one. Hopefully, the second unit will not have the same issue. Other than that, this product is great. It is very simple to assemble and easy to operate.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I am impressed with this trimmer!
I live on a fairly large farmsite. Needless to say, there are a lot of buildings, grain bins and many trees to trim around. Using both batteries, I was able to finish 90% of the trimming. It was fast and it was easy! And, no exhaust smell!!
Thanks to Black & Decker for a wonderful product. I am one smiling customer! :)

I am so glad I bought this trimmer! (Plus it was on a $20 price cut when i bought it.) It is very easy to use and I was impressed by the power it has being a battery operated trimmer.
It does suck the battery life somewhat quickly with continuous use but with two batteries it is so easy to just switch a charged one in. (Plus I have the hedge trimmer so I have 3 batteries at this point.) I did my entire yard plus cut down a grown over flower bed with two batteries.
The way the trimmer turns to become a edger is very cool and the guide helped me cut a straight line down the curb. It looks great and was easier than any other trimmer I have used.
And if that wasn't enough, NO BUMPING! The line came out without any effort from me.
I like this trimmer so much, I wish I had more places to trim! Maybe I will help out my neighbors with their yards...
Yes, I recommend this product.

This product works just as it is described. I can trim my entire yard with one of the 18 volt batteries. I have a front and back yard with a fair amount of area to trim. The auto feed system works well. Easy Assembly and very light weight. Overall its exactly what I was looking to purchase for my small to mid size yard. Now I'm going to buy the hedge trimmer as well to keep with the 18v product line.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I really love this trimmer. I may take both batteries to get all of my yard done, but considering that I went through a lot of cheap brand gas trimmers that were junk this reaaly beats them all. My other trimmers were hard to crank or needed new air filters or spark plugs, etc., etc.,
With this all I do is keep the battery charged and Im good to go. The only thing that saddens me is that this week they are running a special on it for 79.97. If Id waited 2 more weeks, I could have saved 20 dollars. But thats my stupidity. I did however by an extra battery so to have 3 on hand and its really paid off.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I am a fan of electric yard tools. No 2 stroke smell and noise. I bought this cordless trimmer with great hopes after reading the good reviews on the B&D cordless mower. What I found out was that the trimmer batteries don't have a long run time and the trimmer shaft broke on the second season of use. This trimmer is probably ok for city lots, but here in suburbia it didn't hold up.
No, I do not recommend this product.

I've only used this trimmer 4 or 5 times, but I'm loving it already. The fact that you don't have to bump the unit to extend the string is a nice feature. The battery lasts long enough to do all the trimming I need, and the battery can live in the charger for an "indefinite" amount of time. I've always been bad about taking care of rechargeable batteries for equipment, so this is an especially handy feature for me.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Hi. I bought this about 1.5 yrs ago and I've been pleased with it. I'm writing a review now because I need a refill for the string. The batteries don't last a REALLY long time, no. But it comes with 2. I have no problem finishing projects with one though and I have a rather large yard. The cordless feature is spectacular. No cords to worry about. And the batteries are interchangeable with other Black and Decker items, so I swap them out all the time. Good product.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased this trimmer summer of 08. Battery couldn't even do the inside of my fenced yard, had two buy a second battery. That still didn't do it. Had to trim multiple days just to get it done. Now the second summer and the batteries last even less. Now I'll have to purchase more $30 batteries that they can't even keep in stock, wonder why. I like how the trimmer operates but the power is the biggest issue. I would have never bought this product if I knew then what I know now.

This trimmer is a waste. It's takes me at least two different sessions a week to finish trimming our lawn, which is not huge by the way. The battery only lasts 10-15 minutes and a day and a half will go by before I can get both batteries charged up again to finish the job. Looking to give it away and get something else. What a hassle and waste!

I have purchased this product and it works very well for me. I have other tools from Black and Decker that use the same battery. This now gaves me 5 batteries and 2 chargers to keep all my tools working and available when ever I need them. I trim 2 lawns, my own and my sisters andthe trimer is great to use and light weight but very powerful. I love It!!!!

I own a townhouse with a relatively small front lawn that I use this device to trim grass and edge the walkway. sadly, this small space is enough to wipe out the battery (only about 15-20 minutes of usage) so be glad it come with 2 batteries. the batteries are really, really, really, really slow to charge though so have them ready hours in advance. other than that it works fine out of the box

i did the 9hrs charging on both batteries. after about 10 mins of normal not even hvy duty use you can feel the power fading. when you start with the battery charged it's fine but that doesn't last long enough. you need 4 batteries all charged for this unit. i got 7yrs of reliable usage out of the 12v rechargable b&d grasshog. this one is 1/3 the unit of the 12v. i'm now going online-searching for the 12v. the battery finally died on it, thats why i tried the 18v B&D.

I recently bought my first one of this type (non-corded). While it is quite handy, not to have to pull electical cord along with you; the batteries only last about 10 minutes, after which, their power diminishes quickly. At that point, you have to stop, because the unit will not cut any more grass or edge anything. Recharge time is very long (6-9 hours!). I have had 4 B&D corded edge hogs. They get any job done (within reason), without loss of power. They also break (irreparably for me) with about 2 years' use. I will not be replacing the battery operated one, with anything but a corded one.
No, I do not recommend this product.
