Job Site Tuff, October 16, 2008
By N6SoCal from Southern California

"Perfect for the jobsite, plays for days on one 18v battery. Mine has been wet, and knocked off a 6 foot high block wall. But it still performs flawlessly every day. The inexpensive price is a bonus for a product so well built!"

Nice price, iffy sound, August 18, 2008
By cherby from LA, CA

"To be sure, Ryobi's combo-boxing of this radio with other One+ tools is a great incentive to pick one up. At the same time, its performance leaves a lot to be desired. While I didn't expect it to have the sound quality of, say, Logitech's portable iPod speakers, the Ryobi has the acoustic responsiveness of your average clock-radio: with practically no low-end bass, the unit is all treble and midrange. (Also, obviously, it's mono, though this isn't big deal to my mind a, as stereo's usually not important to most folks on a site.)

As many other reviews have mentioned, there's no AM radio reception, which is a shame for talk-radio fans. Ryobi ought re-engineer the unit so that the source switch supports both FM and AM stations, with the AUX input jack being the "third mode" that shuts off the radio when plugged in. Also, as this is a great unit for taking along on camping trips, it'd be wise for Ryobi to waterproof the casing somewhat to address the occasional spill.

On the up-side, the battery lasts for days and the digital tuner is great. And did I mention it's loud? At just half volume it's easily heard across a decent-sized garage. At full blast it's perfect for a day at the beach.

All in all, it's a great occasional radio to have received as a gift, but there's plenty of room for improvement still for Ryobi to work on."

Awsome!!, August 18, 2008
By ekolben from Chattanooga, TN

"This is a really great product, for anyone who likes to take their music with them. I love mine and use it whenever I'm outside. It's so nice not to have to keep buying batteries like I did as a kid with boom box. One charge with the Ryobi One battery lasts a long time."

Amazing Sound!, March 19, 2008
By howtoqueen from Richmond, Ca

"Yes, it really works. Powerful, clear and good reception. We bought one for a friend at Christmas and heard it at her house.
Could not the believe the music came from that little radio, so I had to order one myself! Got the lithium battery to make sure it could go camping with us."

"Excellent radio reception. The aux plug is great for an mp3 player or xm/sirius hookup. Surprisingly loud for a little radio."

Great little radio, January 5, 2008
By Anonymous Reviewer from SW Indiana

"I use this nearly every day, to listen to the news with my coffee. Most of the time it stays in my house. But I love taking it outdoors too.

This would have gotten 5 stars, but I wish it had a carry strap or handle. This is being really picky."

great sound, November 29, 2007
By hoppinshtockin

"this is a great radio i got it with the black friday sale for 60 bucks in a combo kit. those were my first personal ryobi tools but i have used many at work for a few years. this radio is loud and you can hear it over the saws at only half volume. the sound quality is great even for more expensive systems. the batery life is also great on this tool. now i dont have to use the big sound system in the theater all the time to listen to music.

only draw back is no AM"

great sound, August 17, 2007
By Kenneth1 from Orange,CA

"It is a really nice and durable radio. I use it for my ipod and that is great they even give you the AUX cable with it. I like it because it is great for the workplace and it is super portable. It surprisingly has very good sound. My only compliant is that it is sold in store. On this website it stats that the radio is only available online."

Solid Product, a step in the right direction, November 30, 2006
By MaintenanceMan007 from Wisconsin

"Like many Ryobi users, I have been waiting for a radio/boom box from Ryobi for quite some time.

The radio works quite well for my situation. I needed something small and compact (portable) that I could carry with me on my maintenace jobs. I didn't want to lug around the larger boom box offerings from Milwaukee or Bosch. So this newest offering from Ryobi suited my needs very well. I would imagine at some point, Ryobi will come out with a larger version of this unit with a charger, but because of current product copyrights, their hands are tied (from what I have read online).

This product is a true radio (not a boom box) with a radio quality sound. It will go as loud as you want and will 'cut' though background noise. However, the speaker in the unit is small and has a slightly 'cold' sound. The small hole for the 'tweeter' appears to be purely cosmetic (I don't believe there are any additional components besides the single speaker).

Since my job is local, I broadcast tunes from a computer (with winamp) to provide my own commercial free radio station. I am able to 'warm' up the speaker with some slight eq'ing which helps the audio quality...

The digital tuner on the unit is excellent (I was so tired of my old radio with analog tuning) and the mp3 input jack is a nice feature. It is unfortunate that Ryobi decided not to include AM in the radio (the circuitry would have been inexpensive to include), but someone in a meeting at Ryobi must have said that AM is a thing of the past and I partially agree, but I would have paid an extra couple of bucks for AM inlcuded. AM radio talk listeners are left out on this model.

Again, overall this model fits my usage quite well. I decided to purchase two because it is so inexpensive and I assume that someday my first unit will meet with an unfortunate construction project demise.

Be sure to purchase couple of extra batteries to beef up your battery arsenal. Although the unit uses very little battery life, you don't want to compromise your battery selection just because you want to listen to some tunes...

All in all a great product, but I would expect Ryobi to come out with a replacement in the future which would be beefier with a battery charger (once the rights become available)."
