Great Dishwasher, But....,
October 30, 2008
By KnowHowMatt

"I had this dishwasher installed in June of 2008. Overall, I'm happy with it now (4+ months later), but there were definitely a few things with this one that cought me by surprise.
Like another reviewer mentions here, I also found the door to be somewhat difficult to latch. The alignment and fit seemed ok, but it felt like the gasket was too fat, or an object (that I couldn't locate) was in the way. A GE Service Technician who checked the unit told me that this was just a result of the gasket being new, and that the door would get easier to close over time. 4 months later, I think he was right.
My biggest surprise with this unit was its drying performance. Even with the Added Heat function turned on, some of my plastics just weren't getting dry. For a price tag in the neighborhood of $1,000, I was expecting something near flawless, but I've come to find out that my expectation was probably not realistic.
The Service Technician who inspected this dishwasher told me that this is probably the #1 complaint he gets on these upper mid range models. So here's the explanation:
In order to make the modern dishwashers more energy efficient, all of the major manufacturers (not just GE) have reduced the size of the heating element that is crucial to the drying function. According to this source, a roughly equivalent dishwasher 5 or so years ago would have had a heating element that twice the size of this one. To help improve drying performance using a smaller element, they've suggested the use of a rinse aid (jet dry, etc.), and have tweaked the design of the racks to help keep water from pooling.
That explanation sounded pretty feasible, and seems to have been validated with what I found in other reviews and information I've come across online.
Overall I think this is a beautiful dishwasher. It does a fantastic job cleaning, and is very quiet. If it weren't for the surprises, I would probably have rated it 4, or maybe even 5 stars. If you're looking for top notch drying performance, then you may want to consider a model with Fan Assisted Drying, but otherwise this is a great model if it's in your target price range."

door issue,
July 14, 2008
By Mark48306

"Dishwasher delivered in Dec 07 had difficulty with the amount of force required to close/lock door. Had several service people try to adjust / repair. GE kept sending the plastic inner door to replace but each time due (four to be exact) to shipping damage had to scrap parts. Requested and received new same model and still has the same issue, actually it is more difficult to close than the first one. Now six months later...Service is coming to adjust / fix this week. The issue is that the inner door is moulded plastic and is not a good fit.
Also, the screws to the stainless outer door do not fasten the inner door properly.
I will update after service has hopefully fixed the issue.

Go For More....,
May 14, 2008
By Cole6

"I made a mistake when I purchased this dishwasher. For all the bells and whistles, it doesn't even have a time remaining display (a way to know where you are in the cycle). The buttons stay illuminated, and you don't know how long it's been running. The wash is fine, however, if you're going to spend the money, up grade to the next model. The washer does run considerably more quiet than my 15 year old previous model. And it's much bigger (inside) too."

Not all stainless,
February 16, 2008

"The dishwasher works very well. However, for the money, would would think that they would uses stainless stainless steel screws on the inside door. The top screws on the door that hold the latch started to rust after 3 months. I was told all the inside screws around the door are only steel and may rust. Because of this issue, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, friend or not."
