"This was a replacement from HD for a malfunctioning unit of another brand. It looks great, & is well built, just not well thought out.
HD has been super with their service, they just sell them, not build them.
This grill is OK for beginning grillers, & those that only grill occasionally.
We, however grill MUCH & have higher expectations, especially for $269.00.
If you just want to grill some chicken breasts, burgers, steaks or chops a couple of times a week, or even every day, then this grill may be the ticket,.
BUT if you advance to cooking foods that demand longer cook times & better control of temperature like ribs, sausages, brats, chicken whole, quarters or thighs, or bake potatoes, then this unit will be a disappointment, due to the poor design.
The quality & design are not comparable, as the quality is good, while the design is lacking.
Here are the Pros & Cons
Pro's;
1) My 17 year old put it together while I was at work.
2) It's pretty.
3) 4 burners of cast iron
4) 2 levels of cooking.
5) The external thermometer is nice.
Cons;
1) Wasn't thought out well.
2) No handy storage for tools on front, or sides.
3) No handy storage baskets for condiments.
4) There are 3 standing pilot lights between the burners in the back that will cause BAD flare ups if drippings get any place near them, so you have to place food carefully to avoid dripping, which makes the effective grilling area 1/2 size, that makes grilling chicken very tricky, the only real solution is to put the food on one side with the burners off & use the other 2 burners, which makes temperature control difficult, & that brings up...
5) there is an open space along the back of the grill about 3" tall below the lid & above the base, that extends the whole width, this causes MAJOR heat loss & contributes to the difficulty in keeping the temperature right.
6) the lid also has a poor fit, that allows heat loss.
7) Heat loss causes excessive fuel consumption, it takes twice as much gas, or more to cook the same item, which makes this gas appliance environmentally unsound.
I have been grilling for 4+ decades, & worn out dozens of grills, & could do a better job with any of the previously owned units, but it looks good, & is easy to use for a novice.
When shopping for a grill look for gaps where the lid & body meet, & look for exposed burners that drippings will contact, causing flare ups. if you are a novice, intermediate, or expert, this will help to pick a grill, as not very many people like their food burnt from flare ups (although I have seen people fight over burnt hot dogs at a church social)."
