Top class in every respect!,

"The short review if you don't care to read the body of this review.
Cooling: Cools 800sqft open loft space with 20ft of 7ft high windows ( 5 out of 5 )
Construction: Built like a tank, no cheap parts (4 out of 5)
Noise: This unit is very quiet but not the quietest i have ever heard (4 out of 5)
This single unit replaced two very disappointing 6000btu Frigidaire units. The Fridigaires were constructed with styrofoam, tape and glue inside which became a breeding ground for mold and bacteria.
With the desire to not only cool our apartment, my wife and I were determined not to ever deal with moldy air conditioners again. To that end, we did our research and made of list of what our new air conditioner would not contain.
What we didn't want inside our air conditioner:
1. No cheap styrofoam where mold can grow
2. No cheap moisture collecting like foam to fill in the gaps left from poor constructing
3. No cheap tape and glue holding the units insides together
This LG unit met all our requirements:
This unit is built like a tank with thick industrial plastic and metal inside. It has proper drainage which means no fetid water sitting under the cooling coils. This unit is very quite considering that it is a window mounted air conditioner. Finally the unit is uncomfortably cold. Seriously, unlike other reviewers I can't bear to stand in front of it, it's just plain uncomfortably cold.
We originally expected to purchase two of the units but the $600+ price tag meant we would need get the second unit a month later. As it turned out the second unit wasn't necessary, as this single LG cools our apartment better, more quietly and healthily then the two previous units ever did.
I can't possibly recommend this unit more, in fact I have been so impressed that I have just written my first product review ever.
I hope this helps someone"

One year old and going strong,

"Last year central AC went on my single wide with Carolina room addition. $4,000.00 for a new central, or get a couple of window units, hmmm...
This LG is in the main room, am completely happy. Electric bill went down from the central air. It is cooler. Quiet, works very fast. And since I bought it in August, it was only @ 300 bucks. Wait until Fall to buy, save over a hundred bucks. Also, it is heavy duty, you will need to buy a bracket to ensure good mount.
I am going back to buy another one today (for the Carolina room). It will have too many BTU's for 180 sq ft room, but I am so happy with this one, I will pay the extra cash now, instead of waiting for Fall and the price cuts. Also, some days over a hundred degrees here, want to cool off fast, this unit will do that, and it really does look good with that sleek front grill.
Also, warranty is excellent for an appliance, five years!"

"We put this unit in an upstairs window of our older brick home and it cools the whole upstairs (500 ft) easily. It's quiet and powerfu and I would recomment it to anyone. If they could just put it on wheels and add a couple of exhaust tubes so that it was portable, it would be perfect. But let me tell you, when it's 100 degrees here in Decatur Georgia, and that a/c unit is blowing on you while you are trying to get ready in the bathroom, it's heaven. I never sweat any more! And not only that, at parties, my guests come upstairs to stand in front of it because it cools them down instantly! The central air cannot put a chill on the house like this window unit can."

Chill'n down.....,

"I purchased this unit for one of my mobile home rental units, having to wait a week for the central unit to be installed. The unit worked so good, I was disappointed that I spent $4,000 for the central A/C unit. If I would have known, I would have simply purchased two of these units and saved $3,000. To add insult to injury, my tenant also said that they preferred the window LG unit over the central unit as well.
Great item for the price and has lasted 2-Florida summer seasons."

"My husband and I bought this product and we are pleased. We always read product reviews before buying an item and the reviews were right. It really cool off about 3 rooms in our house and the remote is very handy because we have it sitting at the door so when we come into the house we don't have to walk across the room to turn on the air. We love it so much that we are going to buy another one!! It has a sleek look to it, the best I've ever seen."

Great Product,

"This unit replaced an older, larger, louder, and more powerful unit (twice the BTU) that gave out on us the week before Hurrican Ike hit us. The installation was very easy and I was able to install it in under an hour. Would have been quicker but the old unit gave me trouble. It's been running nonstop during the days here in southern Mississippi without the slightest problem. The unit is very quiet and cools better than my last unit ever did. When I turned it on for the first time it dropped the inside temperature from a very hot 98 to a very comfortable 65 in less than 15 minutes! I highly recommend this unit and have recommended it to my in-laws who purchased the same model and are also very pleased. Instructions were a little bit vague however they let you know almost everything you need. Great product and great shipping, Home Depot ALWAYS provides the best!"

Once installed...AWESOME!,

"I read a bunch of reviews before going on my own air conditioner mission. This one has definitely earned it's high ratings. People aren't kidding when they say it is quiet. It makes less noise than the window fan I replaced with it. It has cooled down my entire second floor as well (two bedrooms and a bathroom). The room it is installed in is nice and chilly now. The remote is handy too.
The one beef I have are the instructions. I'm definitely a do-it-myselfer and normally don't have any problems with installation instructions. This set made me want to have a beer. It took me over an hour on my own to figure out what they were saying. The fact that my purchase was missing pieces definitely didn't help. But once I figured out what they were trying to say, the installation itself was really easy.
One thing I would recommend is getting an air conditioner bracket with your purchase. The hardware that comes with the unit definitely isn't enough to support the weight even if it did fit my window set up...which it wouldn't have. The bolt used for the sill bracket was way too short to fit the bill. But the bracket that home depot offers is amazing. I think a large dog could jump up and down on the thing without it budging.

"My Fredrichs went out on me and I needed one in a hurry so I read the reviews on HD and they made up my mind. After I had it installed, I couldn't believe how quiet it was even on high and it cooled off my rooms in no time. I would give it 6 stars if they where available. One more thing as you can see I'm in Texas and it's been over 100 for quite a fews now so cooling was no problem."

Wow -- what an amazing product for the price,
July 26, 2008

"I live in an older building, so the amperage of a unit largely dictates what I can install. My last unit cost me $600, was a noisey Maytag and barely could keep me from sweating in the living room. This unit is about 2000 BTU more, uses about an amp less and is q-u-i-e-t... wow.
I bought two of these and they're humming away, it wasn't until I got to the second unit before I realized that these cheap units had the ability to be pulled from their cage so you could mount the cage and slide them in... I just assumed that was something you wouldn't get on a unit that was under $300!
Installation was a breeze, especially on the 2nd unit (sheepish grin). The controls are pretty standard a/c controls except apparently these have a dehumidify only option which I've never seen on a window unit. Neat!
The manual is a joke, don't even bother. I got more info on the outside of the box, but that's okay I can live with that. Remote is pretty standard (and works with my remaining kenmore, interesting!).
The look is very modern and I think you won't be looking at a dirty air intake because there's none visible -- smart move! Plastic cover is a little chincy on how it attaches, doesn't feel like its on their tight, but absolutely no rattles! great!
Don't take the drain plug out, if you leave it in the a/c unit "tosses" the water back onto the coils to help cool them (though it makes a spitting sound)... love this!

105 outside,
July 5, 2008
By Sunspa14

"It's 105 outside today. It's 80 in the house which is great relief from the heat. The LG unit is cooling the dining room, kitchen and living room which are probably slightly larger than the area it says it can handle. We have an older house, and there's not an unlimited amount of available power so I'm grateful no fuses are blown as we are using ceiling fans, lights, etc on the same circuit. It's quiet enough. No complaints about the noise. My only complaint - the instructions were a 4 out of 10. There's a mode called "energy saver" and it's not explained anywhere. Installation took about 30 minutes and a good deal of that was figuring out the instructions. (Work time was half that.)
If I were buying another unit, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this one again.

Nice Unit,
June 24, 2008
By MaryMaryChilly
"We just got done installing this a/c unit - it took about three hours because we built a wooden frame to hold it. The actual unit install was super easy and only took about a half an hour to figure out. It's been running for about 10 minutes and I can already feel our 300 square foot room getting chilly - we're in Southern California too. It's pretty quite, about the same noise level as having our stand up fan on the low setting. We've only had it half a day but I already love it :)"

"I purchased this unit last night , and installation was very simple.
the unit looks like a monster but light in wieght.
It is so quite you find yourself checking to see if its still on, but the thermostate will shut it down which i love that.
The mounting brackets are tricky but you don' t have to take the unit apart to use them unless your up high, just place them under, the weight will hold them in place.
The timer is another great feature along with the look of it.
Very powerful.
It's rated for 550 sqft but i rent a house i'd say 700sgft and it does the job even makes it upstairs !!
You cannot beat the price or size for a 115v unit.
I highly recomened.
To me it's the perfect medium before getting into the 220v.
