Mine is out for repair....,
June 18, 2009
By Jahomey
from Central NY
"I bought one of these in July, 2006 and it worked OK until recently, when it started making louder noise and was dehumidifying less. It finally quit working altogether, and I sent it to an authorized shop 50 miles away for repair. They had several of these sitting there to be repaired and/or picked up after repair.
The five year warranty is the best out there (the others are one year), but you need your original sales slip for this.
I am confident it will be fixed or replaced."

Works great for a year...,

"Excellent dehumidifier - but only lasts about a year. The unit does have a 5 yr Warranty, but you need to keep the original sales receipt AND get confirmation from a local repair service that it is indeed broken."

Runs Constantly,
May 27, 2009
By KayakCouple
from Greensboro, NC
"Although I picked up this dehumidifier based on the reviews from Consumer Reports, I now have my doubts about this unit's performance. Yes the unit is fairly quiet and yes, it pulls a lot of moisture out of the air. That said, I'm not sure the humidistat even works. The LG's humidistat is set to it's highest level - 70%RH, and my basement's humidity is currently 55% at 71 degrees. Meanwhille, the unit runs for 2 minutes, turns off for 2 minutes, runs for 2 minutes .... Again, this is at 55% RH when th unit is set to it's maximum of 70%
This amount of short-cycling makes me wonder how long the compressor will last."

Dehumidifier more than meets expectations!,
May 25, 2009
By Vanmille

"I purchased this appliance to remove moisture from an unfinished basement/work shop located on an island in Lake Huron; i.e.,very humid. The unit has been continuously operating reliably for over five years maintaining a comfortable 65% relative humidity, eliminating mold and mildew; without excessive noise. Lower humidity settings can be utilized, but 65% seems just-right. The hose drain was a little tricky to install, but I have not had to empty the unit since it was installed. You can hear it running, but it does not seem to be as annoying as a window air conditioner. If this humidifier stops working I will replace it with an identical model."

Stopped Working After 1 Year,
May 21, 2009
By gmdenali
"I bought this LG product primarily because of its aesthetics. Oops! It worked well the first year but then stopped pulling moisture from the air. The fan still runs so I thought it was still working but when I switched the method of draining from the hose back to the bucket I noticed that there wasn't any water collecting. I have tried a few self remedy maneuvers but with no success. If you want to buy this for the same reason I did, make sure you buy the extended warranty."

Too Loud!!,
April 17, 2009
By ACman
"This unit was too loud for my preference. I had it in my den with tile floor and the sound of the loud compressor would carry into my other rooms to the point I couldn't hear my TV."

Noisy!,
March 26, 2009
By beerguy

"I bought this LG dehumidifier based upon the recommendation of Consumer Reports. This is the noisiest dehumidifier I have ever heard. It started off reasonably quiet and with time has become louder and louder. It whirrs and hums and sounds like it is going to take off. If I could only remember where I put that receipt...."

WOW!! Fantastic dehumidifier,

"I live approx. 8 blocks from the beach. I have had terrible problems with mildew, mold, damp walls and wet floors
in the back areas of my home. It always felt cold and damp. I was terrified that my hardwood floors would start to buckle and splinter. Since I bought the LG 45 I have not had any mildew or mold. My floors are dry and my walls are not damp. Thiis was absolutly the best $199.00 I ever spent. Very easy to empty the water. (and it does accumulate a lot). Very attractive container. Easy to move around if needed. Thank you Home Depot for always having quality products for my home and family.

Be Careful Buying this Dehumidifier,
August 24, 2008
By Bill40
from Minneapolis MN
"Following previous reviewers I purchased this LG product back in late March. Finally plugged it in late April and found originally that this worked well without much noise. After running approximately 3 months it became noticeably louder. Now at month 5 apparently the blower motor has now died (according to the repair man). In my call to LG the warranty people were very nice, gave me the # for the repair shop (only 22 miles away) and instructed me to bring it there. I was surprised at the local repair shop when the owner commented "not another" and was surprised that my unit simply hummed moving no air....the majority he had seen were simply DOA, no humming, nothing. Five year warranty is nice but I am questioning it's going forward reliability."

Inconsistent quality,
July 31, 2008
By DENNISM

"I purchased this dehumidifer 2 months ago.I had to return it two weeks later. It started making a very loud vibrating noise. So,I exchanged it for another one. Well, the second one didn't dehumidify. Not a drop of water was collected in a week. Now I returned that one and got another one. So far this one has worked fine for 1-1/2 months. It dehumidifies fine and is normal sounding. However, I can't give it a good rating yet because of the first two that I had that were defective. This must be due to poor quality control. Thanks to home depots excellent return policy I hopefully did get one that will last a long time."

GREAT product!,
July 27, 2008
By HerculesFE

"While a little on the noisy side, I have noticed a SIGNIFICANT decrease in the humidity levels in our house and a much more comfortable environment since buying this unit. Amazes me how much water this thing removes from the air in just two days. If you live the South or anywhere else it's humid - these things are life savers if you're hot natured like me. I haven't changed the air temperature on the A/C however I have to pull the covers up some nights now because it 'feels' so much cooler not having all that humidity in the atmosphere. Would DEFINATELY BUY AGAIN!"

Some are more quiet than others,
July 9, 2008
By InvestigatorDave
from Lincoln, NE
"I too purchased this because of consumer reports. However, I also read on epinions that certain compressors were louder than others. So, I bought two, each with a different compressor, one compressor was labeled HIGHLY (Hitachi) and the other was QINGAN, also a brand out of China. But what I found differs from the review I read on epinions. The unit with the Qingan compressor was actually more quiet than the Highly. Everything else works exactly as described in the manual and my basement is now dry. I like being able to set the humidity level and you can clean the "coils" yourself unlike other models I've had. The Qingan compressor was more quiet but does not live up to the excellent rating for noise it got from consumer reports. Therefore, it does not merit 5 stars but is still quiet enough if you happen to get one with a decent compressor."

GREAT HUMIDIFIER !!!,
July 8, 2008
By LGcustomer
from Massachusetts
"I bought this unit about a month ago. Granted, I had never owned a dehumidifier before, but I am very pleased so far with this item. The amount of water it removes is amazing! I leave the unit running on "low" and I feel that the noise level is very quiet. I don't understand how someone could call this unit loud, unless they obtained a defective one. At first, removing the fill basket was a bit tricky (this is the only reason I didn't give this unit 5 stars), but, like everything, it became easier. If your main goal of buying a dehumidifier is to remove water (which it is!), you can't go wrong with the LG. I would definitely buy this unit again!"

It's going back,
July 7, 2008
By Decibels
from West Bend, WI
"I bought the LG LHD45EL based on the Consumer Reports review which rated it highly because of effectiveness in removing moisture, low energy consumption and being quiet. I returned the first unit I bought because the FULL light wouldn't light, it was loud and the controls seemed not be functioning properly. The second unit is going to go back because it's also very loud. It sounds like the fan is unbalanced and it's worse in Low speed than it is in High. Another review I read seemed to indicate that units manufactured by one of LG's suppliers was pretty good, but the others had problems. We'll see if Home Depot can keep supplying units until I get one that works well!"

Poorly Designed Bucket,
June 23, 2008
By jimct
"This dehumidifier is quiet and works well at removing moisture, but emptying the bucket is a challenge. It's easy enough to remove but It's awkward to carry, and water spills out everywhere when trying to pour it out. I'd also like to connect the drain hose, but the instruction booklet is very confusing and inadequate."

Unsatisfied,
June 22, 2008
By Anonymous
from Wallingford Ct.
"I bought this unit 3 years ago for my finished basement. I did work like a work horse but it was in my living space. So when we watched tv i had to turn it off because of how loud it was. Now after 3 years i need to replace it because it had an electrical short. I came home from work one day and the display had dashes in it and the top was extremely HOT!!! My cheapy unit that i had down there prior to this one lasted 7 YEARS! and would have went longer if i remembered to clean it all the time. And was not as loud. So very unhappy with this product."

Not at all impressed.,
June 12, 2008
By NEMatt
from Grand Island, NE
"The first unit I purchased I had to immediately return because the buttons on the display did not work. The second one lasted 4 months. It runs but doesn't pull any moisture out of the basement (bucket doesn't ever have water in it) even though the humidity level is above 75%.
It is still under warranty (I can see why it needs a 5 year warranty) but the repair place they sent me to is 45 miles away and there phone is disconnected. The next closest repair shop is over 500 miles away.
I would strongly encourage shoppers to buy anything other than an LG.

Buy this Dehumidifier,
June 7, 2008
By BobtheRepairGuy
from Milwaukee, WI
"I purchased this unit several days ago for use in a finished basement, and I have been pleased with it. Very quiet compared to the old dehumidifier it replaced. Water bucket is removable from the front, which makes access easy. I have not noticed any difficulty removing or replacing the bucket, nor have I spilled any water while doing so. Supporting the bucket with ones hands underneath (much as you would with any heavy package or box) has not been a problem either. This dehumidifier was recently the top rated medium sized dehumidifier by Consumer Reports (6/08)."

LG 45 Pint dehumidifier,
May 28, 2008
By Spark6
from Toledo, OH
"I had one of these units for 6 days when the display went bad on it. I was actually kind of relieved that I could return it as a defective product because I wanted to return it anyway. Every time I attempted to empty the bucket, I ended up spilling water all over the floor. There are no handles on the sides of the bucket. The instructions explicitly state that the handle at the top of the bucket (which you can't access until you've pulled the bucket out from the unit - which is when I always spilled the water) is not strong enough and the bucket needs to be supported from the bottom as well. So my overall experience with this dehumidifier was not good at all. I will definitely be looking for one which has handles on the sides of the bucket. The only good point I have for this unit is that it was very quiet compared to others I have had over the years."
