Simply great,
September 28, 2009

"It is quiet, it is powerful and I've never had to empty it. I live in New England, and we have about 3 weeks of nasty hot humid weather. This year it was like 2 months, and was I happy to have it. This is my second summer with my little unit, and I'm quite pleased.
I have my work studio on the second floor of my home, but in the summer with the computer going it can become like a furnace. My husband doesn't like AC, so this was a compromise to cool just my office. Turns out that I can cool the whole second floor (2 fair sized rooms plus hall and bathroom) to decent levels in a heat wave. Its dry feature is nice as I have dust mite allergies and can reduce the humidity even when the weather becomes cooler.
I have casement windows, and the answer to installing it, with minimum light loss, is to cut a piece of plexi that covers all but the bottom 4- 5 inches your screen. I use clear packing tape and affix the plexi to the inside of the screen. Then tape the AC unit window insert to the bottom (I had to cut off a couple of inches of the insert to make it fit - but then it worked beautifully), and replace the screen in the open window. Viola - it looks as though the window is open with only the insert covering the bottom. I've also considered putting a duct through the wall, and may do that in the future because this seems to be such a good and sturdy model."

The only good one,

"I bought the sharp and solues.., this one is worth the extra hundred dollars or so. Its a bit bulkier then the others but works MUCH MUCH better. The only downside is the remote doesn't respond as well as the others and there's always a bright blue light coming from the top of the machine, which in a bedroom at night can be a bit frustrating. I also bought a 3/4" tube and attached it to the drain valve. I then put the other end of the tube in a bucket which will fill up once a month or so.., its much easier than waiting for the maching to tell you it needs drained. Hope this helps.."

Works well for me,

"I'm cooling a 2nd story 500sqf studio with cathedral ceilings and a west facing sliding glass door. These are difficult conditions for any air conditioner and a window unit was not an option. I bought this LG a year ago and have put at least 500 hours on the unit.
The last couple days have been in the 100s with 30%+ humidity. Bottom-line is this: this unit will give you about a 20 degree relief from what's going on outside in a large room (to a point - read below.) Today was 105 (low of 74 at night) and after running the unit all day, the temperature in the room never went over 82. This is excellent performance for the circumstances.
I live in the NW and most of the summer is not terribly humid. However, when it is, you will have to remove water from the A/C every 4-6 hours. The process for removing water is not good. There is a small spout on the back about a half inch off the ground. There is an included hose, but this isn't helpful. I use a deep baking sheet and dump that into a pot to transport to the sink. To get all the water out, I have to tilt the unit on a side and in the direction of the tray. It's not very convenient. I probably wouldn't recommend this unit for those in a really humid area, as you'd spend a lot of time removing water. However, if you live in a place that has only a few humid days or you live in the SW, this is not problematic.
I have a lot of positive things to say about this A/C. It is very nice looking, as far as these things go. It's shiny, has nice lines, and the buttons are functional and unobtrusive. It couldn't be easier to install. It has an on timer, oscillates up and down, and can act as a fan and/or dehumidifier. Finally, the compressor is quiet. The fan is loud on high, but this is not a problem for me. On low, you're not going to find a quieter air conditioner.
My only problem is with the water removal. I will live with this defect.
Okay, so here is an interesting thing. When the outside temperature begins to match the inside temperature, when in the 70s outside, the unit stops cooling at the same rate. For example, at the moment it is 76 outside, but I can't get the inside under 75. This is very strange. I think it may have something to do with the dew point, but it's unclear.
I would recommend this unit to anyone who understands what you're buying. In fact, I am on the site right now to buy one for my mother. You probably will not be disappointed."

It Ain't Pretty,
July 21, 2009
By Whynot
"I really wish I'd researched this model more fully before buying it.
The main reason that I chose this free-standing model instead of a window unit is that window units are so unsightly. There is no chance of having a decent looking set of draperies with a window unit. I am an Interior Designer and it's extremely important that my home, which is a showcase for my services, is impeccable. I bought this air conditioner because I thought it would be less intrusive. I could not have been more wrong.
If you think that this unit will fit into your home better than a window unit, think again. It still needs a window, within a few feet's reach, to vent the ugly, bulky exhaust hose which is as big as a dryer's. The window must be slightly raised and its ugly parts exposed, just as much as with a window unit. You can forget maintaining decent looking draperies with this thing. As far as actual space taken up... it's as big as an oil stove dropped into a room. ENORMOUS! Buy a window unit.
Unlike a window unit, this model must be frequently drained of its water into a shallow pan which is not included. Ever try emptying or carrying, from floor level, a quart of water from a pan that's only an inch deep? They should include a mop. it's impossible to keep from spilling it everywhere.
So its big, ugly, and messy. Does it cool? Yes, but no better than a window unit."

Works Great,

"We have had this unit over a year and have not had a problem. We live in Houston so humidity is high but we only have to drain it about every 3 weeks. It does not cool the whole house but when the temperature is 108 outside and the main system only cools to 83 this unit is a blessing for me and my 3 year old daughter that are home most of the day. I highly recommend this unit as a compliment to a main a/c system on hot days or for small spaces full time. It is almost maintenance free!"

LG A/C,

"I have had this unit for over a year now. We use it in our master bedroom at night and it keeps the room very cool and comfortable. We turn off our main unit at night and it saves us money. We also take it camping with us for use in our cabin. Works great. Very good portable A/C!!"

Good room cooler with nice features,
June 24, 2009
By dillivision

"I purchased this cooler to cool several different sized rooms during times that my swamp cooler was over run by humidity. My living area ajoins two other living areas about 14x18 each. Other rooms would be 14x12 or close to. In my open space area the room that the cooler is in stays nice and cool the other are warm with a marked reduction in humidity. A standard 14x18 room completely enclosed would be no problem for this cooler.
The vent hose is like a dryer vent hose it's ridged and is about 5' in length. It Comes with a nice plastic window mount for those that have updated slider windows it extends from about 24" to 48" I'm not quite sure how you would adapt it to a casement (the crank out type of window).
The LED readout is easy to read and understand and both the onboard and remote controls are very responsive. The buttons make a plesant chime sound when pressed. This model has an additional 'cool' feature called 'Auto swing' it moves the cooling vent outlet up and down to fan the air around the room.
The casters that the unit rolls on are reasonably sized moving them over carpet or tile is no problem they are small enough that a through rug will hang you up.
In all I got at least what I was expecting, LG has been good for me in the past so we'll have to see how the durability of this cooler is over the long haul. @599 it's not cheap but it is quiet, portable and offers a lot of nice features."

Needs Constant Attention,
August 2, 2008
By BrentC

"We purchased this unit to replace a Maytag dual hose that had run consistently for 4 years. This unit is the worst, which surprised us as LG is a trusted name. The unit cuts off and needs to be drained about every 2 hours - something we don't want to do in the middle of the night. It also doesn't cool as well as our previous machine - making the room only moderately cool. This machine is a single hose model. Home Depot, though, has great customer service and are going to take the unit back, even without the box. We're going to try the Soleusair dual hose model PH4-13R-01 next. After researching on Consumer Reports, we think that the dual hose have the ability to cool better, although slightly slower. Also, this unit has the evaporative technology that doesn't require emptying water. Hope this helps someone."

"I believed in the LG brand for quality and reliability, but unfortunately this portable air conditioner was a disappointment and quit working after only 6-weeks of use for a 400 sq ft room. I’m going for a dual exhaust/hose unit this time for a replacement to the LG."

Just what we needed,

"This was a great purchase, and well worth the money. Installation couldn't have been easier. It was exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes from the time I got up from my desk to go get this machine to the time it was fully installed and running. I love the little bells that replace the harsh mechanical beeps most appliances make. The unit looks nice, is easy to move around, and, most importantly, cools beatifully. A terrific buy."

Great Portable Unit!!!,
July 17, 2008
By Mike07
from Philadelphia, Pa
"Just purchased this unit and like the other reviewers, this portable air conditioner is great! It was easy to set up and I've used it in two different rooms and it cooled both rooms down in a matter of minutes. Very quiet unit as well. The energy saver mode is great as it shuts down the unit when the temperature is reached. It is slightly more expensive than other units of the same capacity, but well worth the extra money."

Great Air Conditioner,

"I have had this a/c for a month and it works great, it cools my living/dining/kitchen nicely. You don't need an electrician to hook it up and I installed it myself, no drilling or changing the window...I have a really tall window and all the attachments made it fit perfect. This has saved me since we live in the heat of California and with all the fires lately I would be in here dying. Easy to shut it down for the winter when the snow comes too which will be nice. Would definitely recommend this and may even buy another for the back of the house."

FANTASTIC PRODUCT,

"After being in a 101 degree house for 3 wks, I was desperate. My portable system arrived. Within 5 minutes I had it up and running. I was able to easily roll it to what ever room I was using. It made my Memorial Day a real vacation. Even after my Central system is repaired, I will use it to keep me cool at night . I only have to cool one room instead of the whole house. It is easy to use, has excellent instructions, and best of all -- it works!!"
