Beware of mold problem with these front loaders,
November 22, 2009
By Tea1

"Although I think the washer does a great job cleaning clothes, there is a huge issue with the gasket on this washer. Please do some research before purchasing a front loader... there is a ton of information about this issue on the internet. This is a known issue with many front loaders, not just LG.
We purchased this LG washer about 2 years ago. The gasket has a serious issue with mold growing inside on the bottom and the smell can be intense. So far it hasn't caused our clothes to smell permanently, but I have heard of it affecting others in that way. You need to remove your clothes immediately to avoid this. Also you need to keep the door open after a cycle to avoid mold growth, but even that has not really helped us. You should also dry the gasket after each use.
It is a very difficult issue to deal with and no amount of bleach or vinegar has really taken care of the problem for us. We have only had the washer two years and I am thinking about getting rid of it and going back to a regular top loader.
It's great to be able to save water, but at what expense? The mold smell will takeover whatever room it is in.
The gasket is stained black on the bottom from the mold and I have read before that the mold is usually much deeper inside where you can't see it. I have been able to improve it somewhat by scrubbing with vinegar...but it doesn't last long.
Be very cautious. Some models may have improved on this issue...but research to find out which ones.
The washer itself works well and does a good job cleaning clothes. The normal cycles also are extremely long, but they do have a quick cycle and the delicate cycle is a lot shorter. Most normal wash cycles are about an hour. Not sure if the quick cycle really cleans clothes as well. So far I have only used it on clothing that was not really very dirty.
I am giving this a one star because although it does a good job washing clothes this mold problem makes the washer almost unbearable."

LOVE this Washer,
November 15, 2009

"I love this washer! We've had it for about 2 years. It's very quiet. My clothes come out very clean. I also love that it's not touch pad. Many people I know who have touchpads have had them go within a year. It has great settings. Do not try to put a king comforter in this. It will not wash them."

Oh my goodness!,

"I finally know what it is like to have really clean clothing, and Wow! My husband works in health care and his work clothes used to be frightening-but with the LG's Sanitary wash cycle, his clothes are perfect,co-workers have commented about how good his clothes look. This machine does not wear our clothing out or beat them to death, they get super clean and not destroyed. I have owned Maytag, Kitchen Aid and Hot Point washing machines, this one has them all beaten by a mile. The LG cost a lot more, but I certainly got a lot more for my money and have never been happier with any purchase. This machine has cut our water use by 50%"

Great Machine!!!,

"I have only had this washer for about 3 weeks but am loving it so far. Our clothes come out very clean and almost dry right from the washer. My husband's allergies have decreased significantly since washing the clothes, sheets and towels in this machine. My son's football pants were no problem, they came out spotless with no extra treatment. Home Depot sales and delivery were very good. The deliveryman set up the machine and made sure everything was working. Overall a great experience."

Love this machine,

"Great machine; gets cloths really clean. Have had it for a couple of months now and no problems with rubber smells or any of the other complaints. Yes, takes longer to clean, but you have to sacrifice something when you use less water and less electricity (both washing and drying).
I had a HE top load washer; clothes did not get clean. Terrible washing anything big (rugs, comforters..). Took less time, but price you paid was dirty clothes.
Buy the LG!

Very Satisfied,

"I bought this unit just 1 month ago. The unit does a great job, clothes come out very clean, clothes smell good, a good noise level. I recommend to anyone as long as they know the issues with it. Excellent design and very modern.
Pro's:
1. Ultra quiet spinning cycle
2. Multiple combinations of wash settings ... excellent
3. Wash with little water
4. Clothes come out very clean. Nice colors.
5. Excellent spining cycle , leaves clothes dryer and the dryer consumes less time drying. I also bought the matching dryer.
Con's:
1. If I turn off the unit in any part of the cycle when I turn it on it starts from the start by getting water. I haven't seen any place in the manuals that it can restart where the cycle was stopped. Granted it has some buttons to do do just rinse, spin etc. But I found this annoying.
2. Since it weights the loads to determine the water level that the load requires it generates a water- hammering- since I live in a condo I am always concerned about not disturbing my neighbors. I bought 2 water-hammer arresters in Home depot (around $10), that helped somewhat. I now make sure to use the washer before 10pm.
3, It displays the time it takes for the complete cycle. That said , it is quite lengthy , I would say min 40 min to 1 hour. My loads are not that many, so it is not such a big issue for me but can be for a large family.
4. There is process that at least every week should be followed to remove water from the bottom of the washer - which is the first time ever that I see such a thing. I have read of other people complaining about bad smell coming from the washer and I must say that I have not experienced it - I make sure to remove the water as it says in the instructions, clean the door, leave the washer door open after use. It smells super clean the following day.

Super quiet and uses much less water.,
September 26, 2009
By Janitor
"I was suprised on how quiet this machine is and also how little water it uses. I would guess that it uses 1/3 the water of our older top loader. What a savings! Plus Energy Star rated to use about $12 of electricity a year! Can't beat that!"

LG WM2016CW Front Loading Washer,
August 30, 2009

"This washer looks good, but after a month, is starting to leak. When I googled this on the internet I found tons of complaints about the same thing. Very disturbing. I have a call into service, this is after having it one month. As far as the smell, if you leave the door open and not close it after washes, it's ok. The leaking is a problem."

"My partner wanted a front loader to save water and I was a little concerned about all the extra mechanisms and electronic control board etc. This thing is rock solid but not as quiet as i was hoping. Great for people who don't really soil their clothes. I have to pre wash or pre soak most of my really grubby stuff and use the stain cycle to get really grubby clothes clean, this is why it gets 4 stars in my book.. Holds a huge load and has lots of wash options that really work. So far no problems with funky smells but we do our best to clean the filter often and keep the tub and door seal clean. Really a great deal in Oregon with the rebates and we got it on sale as well. So far it seems to be helping our water bill."

Love this Quiet, Easy to use LG front load washer!,
August 22, 2009
By luvtobake
from Sugar Land, TX
"This frontload washer is so much quieter than my old Kenmore top loader, which broke after 9 years of use. Because our laundry room is downstairs next to the kitchen, quietness is important. The 3.6 cu ft. volume is adequate for our active family of four.
Clothes smell great and seem cleaner, and come out much dryer than before, so less drying time in the dryer means savings in electricity! Also, water use is much less because the washer automatically determines how much is needed per load. Hurray for better energy-efficiency!
Even though high-efficiency detergent is required, you use less of it than regular detergent so the cost is comparable.
Operating the washer is so user-friendly that even my smart 5 year old can do it! In fact, since we bought this washer, many times he would rather sit and watch the wash and spin cycles than watch TV!
The 10 year warranty on the drive motor is the best of any washers. Also, the appliance delivery guy said that LG is currently the top-rated washer.
I love my new washer!

This toploader delivers as advertised!,
August 13, 2009
By psars61

"We've had our LG about a month now. We're enjoying washing/drying bigger loads so it cuts down on the time. Even with 1/2 cap concentrated detergent, the laundry is clean. Thanks to the exceptional spin cycle, the longer wash time is offset by the much shorter dry time. Rather than purchasing the costly pedestals, I built a platform out of 2 x 12" and 3/4" plywood. Very little vibration, especially compaired to the old top loader. The features are great, the price is right, and the monthly savings in utilities make this washer a no brainer in my book! I'll be back in a year for an update."

So far - So good,
August 3, 2009

"It's only been a month since we received this product (a quick note to say that Home Depot on-line made it easy and quick to make the purchase and set up delivery date - the delivery men were very prompt and helpful in getting my old washer out and the set up of the new). Now for the washer - I basically read all the reviews which helped me make my final decision on this model and brand - and so far no complaints (no odors, no issues or problems whatsoever); but also can't say that this washer cleans better than my old one. It all appears the same - that is basically clean. BUT - it is much more quieter, appears to be more efficient (using less water), and easy to use. If I were asked what I would change - it would be an option of keeping the door partially opened somehow as oppose to having it completely open (which I'm told is needed so that there isn't a mildew smell left behind) & since I have a young daughter who likes to press buttons, perhaps having the child proofing option button to include the on/off button (because once she hits that - it has to start all over again!) But So far - So good."
