I am on my second one and once again it works fine and just stops heating the food. First time i just replaced it with another one as it matches my stove. Now its been 2 years and this one just stopped heating also. Brought in a repair man and he says its the Magnitron which is very expensive. This cost me $79.95 for a repair man to tell me this. I will be buying a new microwave and not this GE/Hotpoint. I'm wondering if the others that gave this item a good rating changed their minds after 2-3 years. I feel a microwave should last at least 5-6 years. I don't reccommend this.

I bought this microwave when we first moved into our place. It worked well up to a couple of days ago when it straight up stopped heating. Tried resetting it and a bunch of other troubleshooting steps but nothing works. This is pretty poor construction if you ask me, it should at least last 5 years in my opinion.

Ordered this product thinking it was similiar to the last Hotpoint microwave I had. Everything works fine except for the vent fan, it is way too loud and while heating up anything comes on automatically. My last microwave I had a choice as to use the vent fan or not.

We had to replace the original over the stove microwave which was also a HotPoint but an earlier version (1999). I chose this HotPoint because of the value and figured it would be similar to the one we replaced. This one looks nicer (the old one was white) and is a bit smaller which is good because I have a tad more space for my pots when I cook. However, the beep is loud, when you are cooking something it sounds loud, and the features are not as similar as the old one. With the old one, you can use the timer and simutaneously cook something as well. With this one, if you use the timer, you have to wait until the timer runs out before you need to nuke something. Overall, we are happy with our purchase because it matches our other appliances.

I purchased this microwave oven in the spring of 2010 based on the reviews listed on the Home Depot website. Compared to more expensive models it seemed to preform quite well and at much less cost. I loved this microwave and its features UNTIL 8 months after installing it, the microwave stopped heating foods. Now we are left with a microwave that vents and lights up but does not cook. The only way to have it repaired is to hope what is wrong with it is covered under the warranty or pay all most $100 to have it looked at. At this point, I think we will be buying a new microwave since the service fee is over half of what the microwave is worth. I did give the microwave three stars because it performed very well up til this point. I guess it is hit or miss with many appliances today.
As a side note: We could never find the charcoal filter for this model in any store and it was always sold out on the GE website.

I bought this microwave in July 2001 and we are still using it.. thats almost 10 years....we have never had any problems at all with it...turntable runs very quiet and easy...It looks great over the black stove and it looks more expensive than what I paid for it...I love it....if I ever have to replace it, I would buy the same one again, You always stick with something that works great.

I recently purchased this microwave after extensive comparative research with all the major competitors and read reviews at many sites for the different brands...this one is the best overall! This seems to have the best quality for the price and does a great job!
I purchased the extended warranty so NO WORRIES for a total of 5 years - that's awesome! The fan works great, good lighting and it has quick touch settings for quick heat-up's.
I am so happy to have this great microwave, we went without when our other one died for over 3 weeks and now we have our time saver back and less pans to wash for reheating leftovers.
***The bonus was more space above the range with this model, so more working room for stove-top cooking.
I opted for home installation and it was painless and quick. I would recommend this microwave and Home Depot experts to install and trust them to warranty this product. They delivered and installed on the day promised, that I chose during check-out - that is excellent customer service.
I would recommend shopping/purchasing online since the selection is the greatest and you can choose all the options needed right from your computer.
One more thing... the warranty is Transferable - very important if you are renting/leasing!

Loud Fan Runs While Microwaving!

The exhaust fan on this microwave is very loud and runs whenever you use the microwave to heat something (not just when you're intentionally using the exhaust fan). It is so loud that it is difficult to have a conversation with someone in the kitchen while you're heating something.
I would not recommend this microwave unless you live alone and want it to sound like you have a wind tunnel in your kitchen.
The underside lighting could be better, too. Otherwise it heats food very well, and I like the one-touch heating. Also, the guys who installed it were really professional and did an excellent job.

Suitable Replacement for Previous Model

After ten years my Hotpoint microwave died. Wanting to keep things uniform in the kitchen, I looked for and found the replacement model here on HomeDepot.com. It arrived quickly, well packaged and in perfect condition. Because I had the ten-year-old version of the same microwave, the swap was easy as we didn't even have to re-install the support bracket or anything else...everything was basically the same. EXCEPT the power cord does not come out in exactly the same spot on top so you'll have to have a saw ready on hand to cut another hole if you have the same type of set up. The microwave works well and looks nice, although I think the quality is slightly lesser than its predecessor...the door is a bit too light weight and feels kind of cheap but you cannot beat the price on this microwave!
