Great Product-Great Price,

"I got this set after Christmas with two HD gift cards I got. My last drill was a 9.6 V Black&Decker, so basically, anything would be better. My uncle has several Ryobi tools so I decided to try out this combo. I am extremely pleased with how they have performed.
DRILL PROS:
It's Medium duty if not heavy duty.Very powerful at least for what I need. It's also very rugged and durable. Has a solid feel. The two bubble levels are an added bonus. The mag tray is ingenious and helps me not lose track of any screws, bits nuts, or bolts I'm using at the moment. The 24 position clutch is great especially compared to my previously 6 position clutch and really makes stripping screws almost impossible. The two gear ratio things are very useful too. When I'm drilling I use setting 1 for slower speed and higher torque. When I'm mixing either mortar or something lighter, I use 2 for higher speed, lower torque for fast mixing. The two included bits are nice too. The rubber grip is good. Finally, the drill actually stands up on it's own (on the battery). My last drill was super top heavy so it would tip over. Stupid but very important to me when I can't lay it down.
DRILL CONS: The drill is pretty heavy. It's also difficult to clean. The bit holders at the back pinch your fingers really bad when you're trying to take out or put in the included bits unless you wear gloves. The last thing is that the chuck is plastic. On my last drill, the chuck was a ZA die casting which gave it extra durability.
SAW PROS:
I've never had a circular saw before but for me, this one is great. I thought that battery powered saws were dumb and ran out of battery too quickly but this one is pretty powerful, easy to use, and easy to adjust. I can use it to make dozens of quick cuts for maybe 3-4 hours before having to switch batteries. The bittersweet thing about this is that once the saw can't use the battery anymore, the drill can still squeeze plenty of juice out of it making sure the battery is completely drained.
SAW CONS: If you start the cut off wrong, the saw stalls. Again, I'm not sure if this normal with circular saws since I've never had one. Another thing is that with it's 1 3/4" (or 1 1/2" (can't remember)) it makes it hard to cut 2x4s which is one of the main things I use it for since I don't have a chop/mitre saw yet. The last 1/16" breaks off.
ACCESSORIES PROS:
The bag is OK. It looks fairly durable. The charger is great. I have something about bad batteries and chargers that drive me nuts. I've had other "diagnostic" chargers before, but all they do is run on a timer so if you pull out the battery and plug it back in, it starts over charging the battery and eventually ruining it. That doesn't happen with this one. If I'm charging both batteries and lose track of which one I just pulled out, all I have to do is put it in the charger again and it'll tell me if it's charged or not. The one hour thing is useful. Also, the temp sensor is nice.
ACCESSORIES CONS: I don't see myself ever using that bag. Maybe for dirty clothes or boots but besides that... I also wish the charger could charge two at a time but I've never heard of that before anyway.
OVERALL:
Great Product-Great Price I love Ryobi tools and will continue adding to my rapidly growing collection. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

"I was looking to get 2 more batteries for my existing Ryobi set, when I found this combo on sale for $30 more than just the 2 batteries. I figured a 2nd cordless drill & charger would come in very handy. The existing set I have has served me very well for the past 3 years but the batteries were starting to run out sooner and sooner. The drill is very well built and has had medium duty use and is still working great. The saw I have only used about 4 times and only for minor trimming of boards when I was far from electrical power. It will not replace a good corded circular saw, but comes in handy when you are far from power or only need a few cuts. Overall it is a good buy especially on sale.
Pros: Price, very dependable drill, easy multi-position clutch, accepts 1/2" bits, dual level bubbles to help align holes. circular saw a bonus for light use.
Cons: drill larger and heavier than others, circular saw needs a fully charged battery to work best. wish you could pick and choose other items as 2nd tool for this price."

Great Stuff,

"I am a new homeowner and needed to buy tools for around the house. I particularly needed a circular saw for cabinet making. I have not used power tools in some time so I was not up on quality and technology. After being bummed by Craftsman quality I decided to check out HD. I saw the 18 V circular w/ laser for a good price but did not buy it because of the extra cost for the battery packs and charger. A few days before Xmas I decided to buy one. I went to the store and saw this pack. It did not have the laser and had a drill I did not need but the price was right so I bought it. I made sure to charge the saw overnight and used it on Xmas eve. I love this saw!!!! It is fantastic!! It cut Padauk and Red Oak like butter. The cuts were straight and smooth on 1" and 2" stock and the saw is so easy to use and light that my wife could easily handle it and not be intimidated. It is easy to adjust and works well. The batteries charge quickly but I did notice that you can tell when the charge is getting low and it did need a new pack after about 5 or 6 cuts but not enough to not cut, it just wasn't as fast. This saw has more than enough power for anything I'll ever do so I am over the moon. Additionally, the combo effectively made the drill free and cut the price on the battery packs and the charger. I could not ask for more. I don't care about the laser part I would get this again!!! Buy it while you can...."

Ryobi Starter Kit,
December 29, 2009
By luvtools

"Being a partially disabled, 60 year old lady, this product is exactly what I needed to finish a home re-modeling project without having to borrow tools from my neighbor. The experience I have with different tools and home projects goes back as far as 1989 when the family took on the biggest project we ever attempted, building our own 4 bedroom, three bath, 2 story, home. Even my grown son, who does all his own home re-modeling and repairs said, "You picked a good product, Mom.""

"I bought two of these kits - one for my husband and one for my son. Both have found them to be quality products. Having two charges instead of just one makes finishing a job much easier. Since we bought our first Ryobi tool, we have continued to add to our assortment. Currently we have almost every piece they make. Good product at a great price!"

Ryobi 18 volt drill w/battery,
December 5, 2009
By CarpentryContractor
from Milwaukee, WI
"While working as a subcontractor for a large construction company I was told by the foreman "You should buy MKE cordless tools like me. They show the customer that you only use the best." A week later I dropped my Ryobi drill from 15 feet. It landed on the concrete sidewalk. After climbing down from the ladder expecting to find a ruined drill, I picked up the drill and the battery, clicked them together and pulled the trigger. It still worked perfectly! Another carpenter on the job was as impressed as I was. He told me he formerly owned the MKE drill and had gone through 3 in three years plus burned out 4 batteries. After seeing how durable my 5-year-old Ryobi was he said his next set would be Ryobi, not MKE."

Starter Kit,

By WillieManansala

"I bought this kit a year ago. Truly the monst convenient tools I ever used. The circular saw is easy & very light to used unlike other circular saw I already have. The screw driver is easy to change bits and the two rechargable batteries make it even it more convenient away from the electrical outlet. It really helped me in finishing up my project of installing laminate floor in my house!!!"

dies over the years,
November 10, 2009
By rblake

"in my use of this set of equipment over the years i have had i would say that over time every use leads to giving any of the tools less power, the battery less charge after each time of charge which gives a shorter use of the tool. i would say the tools are good for someone starting out, the name "starter kit" is good, but any good that takes the need for a some tool power these tools are useless. they are good for small quick jobs. they served me well over the years but all ending up on dieing out, even with new batteries. i would say the batteries are the biggest problem"

Great for home use!,

"I have found this combo set extremely important to doing my honey-dos around the house. By no means is it an industrial/commercial set, but it's also not marketed as one. The batteries seem to last for a fair amount of time, assuming you're not ripping wood with the saw. I have done this and it probably made two 80" cuts before it died. With that being said, I don't know many circular saws with a battery that would hold up to much more than that. For every day use, this is the perfect little set, especially for the price."

We recently did a bathroom project at his house and needed to cut the fiberglass tub into pieces to get it out to the dumpster... the saw was PERFECT for this job, and having 2 batteries is GREAT. "I bought this set after returning a competitors set. Since the Ryobi had a great name and good reviews, I figured this was a good buy. The drill seems fine, the levels are a great touch. I am very disappointed with the saw though. I was only able to make a few cuts through a 2x4 before it stopped cutting. I will be returning for separate drill and a corded saw."

"If you just want to do minor stuff around your home tihs is a good product for you. This however wouldnt hold up to the task of building my 12 x 27 deck. The drill did OK. not very impressed though. The circular saw wouldnt cut through some of the 2x10 boards. I would make a complete cut (very slowly) and have to flip the board over and cut it again. The blade wouldnt go all the way through. It would bog down really bad when cutting also.
The kit i bought had the sawzall in it too. It wouldnt really cut through the 4x4 posts. The light that came with it blew the bulb the second time i turned it on.
My next door neighbor ran circles around me with his 5 year old Dewalt set. Like i said for someone that isnt gonna use it much this is pretty decent thing for small use.

Ryobi 18V Starter kit,
July 15, 2009
By qwaldo

"I purchased this product because of the refutation of Ryobi quality. I was not disappointed in the quality of both the circular saw and drill driver. I was apprehensive about the nickel cadmium battery packs since have previously experienced problems with other tools powered by this type of battery. During use I experienced loss of power and had to frequently switch over to the other battery pack that must be kept on charge. Fortunately a lithium ion battery pack is available as an upgrade that should solve this problem. The low cost and quality of the outfit more than offset this minor inconvenience."
