Great Economical Machine,
February 4, 2010
By ryman

"We have had this washer since January of 2008 and it has been a great machine so far. The machine is very quiet. The loadest part of the wash cycle is when it is filling with water, Spining and draining water. During the actual wash cycle, the loadest thing you will hear is the actual clothes moving around as it turns. Since this unit uses very little water you will only hear it filling and emptying occationally. I actually saw a drop in my water bill and my electricity bill after buying this machine. The electricity savings comes in the dry time, since the machine spins the water out of the clothes so well, it doesn't take as long to dry them. It has been nothing but a great experience for us."

Amazing cleaning w/ so little water & detergent,

"Had this washer delivered on 1/29/10 , and after the delivery pros set-up and removed my old washer , I got right to work on testing the new washer. Washed 6 loads of laundry , including the queen size bedding , and my 5 year olds pile of clothing. The washer is whisper quiet and uses such little water and detergent. The clothes come out almost dry after the spin cycle. This cut the drying time of my queen size comforter from 1 1/2 hrs down to 45 minutes. I wouild highly recommend this washer!!!"

Great product!,

"This is a great machine! It's quiet and has many options. Spins so well that it has shortened the drying time and I load it full. Noone could beat this price. It was also recomended to me by an outside serviceman who said it was a great economical washer - and it looks good! Even chimes me a song when it's done although it's hard to hear from the basement. My only problem was that the description did not say it included rubber hoses so I ordered the stainless that were recommended. Now I have an extra set."

Amana Washer Review,

"We love this washer. Works great, quiet, energy efficient. After doing weeks of research on front load washers I decided to purchase this Amana. The price is great, quality exceptional. I have found all the "bells in whistles" on other name brand front loaders are not missed. Love it, love it, love it!"

Good washer, price.,
January 5, 2010

"Owned for less than a month, but seems like a good washer. However it does shake a little in the high speed spin cycle, depending what is in the washer. It is very important that the washer is leveled and the nuts on the legs are tightened against the bottom of the washer to keep the legs from moving up. The delivery people didnt secure the nuts on 2 of the 4 lock nuts on the legs when they delivered it. I use HE liquid detergent which seems to clean good but leaves a residue on the bottom of the dispenser. You just need to take it out and rinse it off when done with the laundry. I leave the door open to prevent odors as others have recommended. Some even leave the soap dispenser open air out, as long as you don't hit it as your walking by. I could only imagine how much that would cost to replace. This washer did'nt qualify for the rebates from the gas and electric company as it is a Tier 1 energy star. And you need a Tier 2 or 3 for the rebates, at least from my local utility company. Overall a good quit operating washer, best installed on a CONCRETE FLOOR because of vibration."

Excellent Machine!,
January 3, 2010

"I bought this washer in Sept. '09 and it's AWESOME! Before my purchase I read many articles concerning a mold issue with front load washers but I haven't had any problems. Just wiping down the inside of the door and leaving it open evidently does the trick. It really gets the clothes clean with minimal water or detergent. The control dial is very sensitive as others have said but you can "lock out" the controls once you have it set so that kids can't play with it or you don't accidentally bump it. I read another review that said the person washed a super king sized comforter with no problem. I tried washing a queen sized comforter and could only manage to get 3/4 of it in the machine and it was packed in there. However, a full sized comforter fits perfectly! If you have a super/large capacity dryer that works fine, I would advise you to keep it. It will hold whatever clothes that come out of this front load washer. This washer does spin much more water out of the clothes which cuts down on the dry time..New dryer or old."

Love it!,

"I bought the washer and dryer set and love both! The price was an awesome steal. I was told you can cram pack the front load washers and still get a good clean. I did not believe this so I tried it myself. My clothes were cleaner than a less than full load on a top loader. I love the sensor dry setting on the dryer. I can throw my clothes in and the dryer automatically will kick back on if the clothes are not completely dry. I was also told that many owners of the front loading washers would have a problem with a mildew smell but I have not had any problems with this set. I love the efficiency of the set. I use less laundry detergent and they clean better than a typical washer. I also love the extra little things like the little chime it makes when it is done washing instead of the annoying buzz that most make. I have nothing but good things to say about this particular washer and the matching dryer."

Wonderful machine,
December 28, 2009
By Beachgirl71

"PRO: quiet, lots of washing options, easy to use, ecofriendly, the end of cycle chime is quiet, doesn't use a lot of detergent and is very kind to my electric bill, able to handle a large amount of clothes for a stackable. (single person-no kids)
CONS: (why 4 stars and not 5) can get off balance easily, the knob to adjust settings is sensitive.
I have had this washer for about 4 months now and I really like the machine. It uses very little water and how my clothes get cleaned is beyond me. I use the machine stacked with the Amana dryer. The machine is located in my kitchen in a narrow passage area betweem the living room to the kitchen. On a few occations I have walked by and accidently stopped the machine by hitting the knob and then turned the knob which then takes me to another option and starts. It does not give me the option to go back but only to start over. This is more of a location issue, but note the knob is very sensitve. Second, the washer seems to get off balance easily and requires shifting/removal of items. I primarily notice this when I wash sweatshirts & towels. I live upstairs in a condo and my neighbors say they hardly hear it. I am able to watch TV, sleep and visit, etc..with it running, very quiet.
I chose this machine over a standard stackable because the dementions of this machine was the same but with a larger capacity. This machine offers so much more than a stackable with the same dementions.
**If you live upstairs I would recommend a pad to go under it to absorb some of the vibration (not noise) on the spin cycle.**
I would highly recommend this product to a friend. I think it is a great price and great machine."

Impressed user,

"This is my second front loader, it replaced a Kenmore (AKA Fridgidaire) that failed 4 times in 4 years.
I have had this one now for about 6 months. We are a family of 5 so it gets used almost daily.
Although rated at the same capacity of my previous washer this feels bigger. I am now able to wash my super king sized comforter which would not fit in the other unit. The spin cycle is quiet and well balanced. I have it with a dryer stacked, so any bit of unbalance will be exagerated.
I have seen complaints about the amount of time it takes to wash but 54 minutes is fine with me. It takes about that long for a load to dry so it actually works well for me.
I have no way of backing this up but I feel the clothes come out cleaner compared to my previous unit.
It has lots of features that I will seldom use but they are nice to have. I particularly like the end of cycle chime, it is so much nicer than the typical buzzer.
One thing that I noticed right away is that nothing gets caught in the door gasket. On the other unit there was always at least one sock stuck in it. I have not noticed any odors from the door but it gets used so often it does not have a chance to mold and we keep the door open when not in use.
It was on sale when I bought it and was discounted even more about a week later. Home depot credited the difference without question.
It almost feels wrong to get this much quality for such a low price. I almost look forward to my dryer failing so that I can replace it with the matching Amana."

Was concerned about not having a Pre-wash setting,
December 26, 2009
By Jon12345

"We've only had this washer and dryer set for 5 days, and so far we're very pleased. One thing we were concerned about was the fact that there's no "Pre-wash" setting, especially since we didn't see any reviews that addressed this concern.
One of our family members has a skin condition that often leaves blood on their pajamas and underwear. Without a pre-soak capability, we were afraid we wouldn't be able to get the blood stains out.
We tried a test load of just a few soiled items. We set the water temp on hot-cold and the Soil Level to heavy.
To our pleasant surprise, every drop of blood stain came out without the use of adding any type of pre-wash treatment either to the wash or directly on the fabric. If you sit and watch how the washer works, you will see that it almost automatically includes a "pre-wash" cycle with every load:
The machine first dispenses the soap into the washer tub and then adds a very minimal amount of water. Next, it spins the clothes two or three turns and then stops....spins another two or three turns and stops...and so on, repeating this process for several minutes, thereby, effectively "pre-washing" or soaking the clothes before it actually washes them.
This machine is fun to watch go through its paces, although I'm sure that will be short-lived! But if you take the time to watch the way it processes the wash, you can understand why it would be so efficient and effective.
It's also a fun machine to use...the chimes, the ease of setting the machine up, being able to watch how it does what it does...is all pretty neat!
This washer and dryer and pricier than the topload/standard pair, but the savings on your water and electric bills is worth it...supposedly only costs $12 per year on water!
Very intelligent machines! Nice products!"

"This washing machine is not noisy and has a large capacity load. However, if the load is too heavy, sometimes it does not squeeze all the water out of the clothes and I have to use the spin only button after the washing is done to get all the water out. After you figure out the right amount of clothes this machine can handle, it does a great job."

"We've had the Amana washer and dryer for about a week now, and we love them both! The washer is so unbelievably quiet, you forget it's even running. The amount of water used is so much less than a top loader (will be loving that when the water bill comes) and the clothes still come out so clean! I like that there isn't an agitator for clothes and linens to get caught up in. The spin cycle is so great that it cuts the drying time in the dryer in half. It plays a fun little jingle that my kids listen for at at the end of a cycle. I like all the features you get that you don't get with a top loader. I recommend this product to everyone and the price was definitely right!!!"

"I bought this washer in Feb 2009, so I've had it for almost a year and I still love it. As others have said, it is easy to accidentally hit the control buttons (mainly when I'm reaching above the machine for detergent), but it's not that big of a deal.
I really like how easy it is to use, the controls are simple enough for a child. I also love the matching dryer that I got at the same time. Nothing makes doing laundry fun, but these machines make it easy and they clean and dry very well. I've never had a problem and I would definitely recommend these units.
Also, they guys from Home Depot who delivered it took the old washer/dryer out, installed these and started a test cycle in less than 15 minutes. It was actually pretty amazing to watch.

Well worth the money,
December 11, 2009

"We retired an old (20 years) washer and dryer and searched on line for a replacement. This pair was highly rated and had all the features we needed without some unnecessary bells and whistles. I am completely satisfied with the purchase and Home Depot.
I washed and dried 3 loads in 4 hours. I then tried to overload the washers with sheets and towels. It washed them but I had to do an additional spin to get them rung out. My problem, not the washer. The dryer does an exception job on the Normal Dry setting, More Dry gets the clothes too hot.
Great machine, it is also sold under the Maytag brand with a higher price, same 7200 model number.

Amana washer,
December 10, 2009
By Alan123

"Washer was delivered on time and very professionally. I bought this washer because my old top loader had beeen through two clutches recently and because water is VERY expensive where I live. It was highly rated by Consumer Reports and I got it for $200.00 off by buying on black Friday sale. I have only had it for two days but we have run about eight loads and it has performed very well. It does take awhile to get used to programming the unit as it is VERY different from my old washer. The spin speed is high which means the clothes dry quicker. My old washer used as much as 68 gallons for a full load. This washer appears to be using about 33 gallons for a full load. This should make big difference on my water and sewer bill. I am not much of a believer in extended warranties but at the price, an additional 4 years seemed like a very good idea. I am very happy with my purchase so far and would recommend this washer to anyone."

Very Good but not Perfect,

"The washer works very good but vibrates a litte on the spin cycle even though I added the vibration pads. Also I love the fact it uses less water and the clothes still seem to get just as clean as my old top loader but I do miss the fact that a few minutes after I've started a load once in a great while I like being able to add a shirt or maybe a pair of pants, that I just realized I wanted to wear that night, and with the front loader its locked and more trouble to do. For the most part the washer is fine, and I am happy with it especially for the price."

Great cleaning / Poor user interface,
November 20, 2009
By na5m
from Sacramento, CA
"All of my clothes get nice-n-clean using this front load washer. Plus, it's fun to watch the clothes tumble :) So, with the clothes-cleaning aspect of this Amana, I'm very pleased. But the BIG drawback of this washer is the 1" protruding control knob. When pressed (and it takes hardly any force to press), this knob turns the unit on or starts the wash cycle or pauses the wash cycle. Which are all desirable features, obviously, but unfortunately it is all too easy to inadvertently press. If you reach over this unit, you'll likely bump this knob. When walking past this unit, you'll likely bump this knob. When working in front of this washer, you'll likely bump this knob. You *will* bump this knob occasionally. I told myself before I bought this washer that I'd be careful & never inadvertently bump this knob (I knew about the knob issue before I even bought this washer). I still bump it. It is totally frustrating when it happens. I've had my washer (and matching dryer) for over 3 months now. I'm going to keep them, however and just try to be super-duper extra mindful not to bump this knob (ooops! I just bumped into it again!!!)
Also, the little gates that divide the liquid compartments leak the liquid underneath them instead of holding it in place. A little annoyance.
And I don't think this washer has a low point water drain or a debris catcher, like higher priced models do. Also, no built in water heater.
Pro: This washer does a great job at cleaning your clothes.
Con: The "knob" issue will really, really, really upset you.

Excellent Washer!!!,

"I would highly recommend this washer to anyone!! I love it, love it, love it!! Our 3 yr old top loader stopped spinning, and after hearing it would cost $350 to repair I decided to start looking for a new washer. Well after 6 months of comparing, reading reviews and getting frustrated that supposedly everyone had the better washer, I finally chose this Amana front loader. I wasn't even looking at front loaders originally. I read many reviews on this washer and it seemed as though people were very happy with it. Even my husband is doing laundry now. This washer is very easy to use and washes our clothes thoroughly with less water. It definitely saves on water and laundry detergent. We're using the "HE" detergent and it's lasting a long time compared to detergent usage for top loaders. The washer overall is quite except for when the water is going into the machine. The valves shut hard to stop the water. Our laundry room is on the second floor next to our bedroom and even at night when we go to bed I'll put a load in and it doesn't disrupt our sleep. So if your looking for a Good washer at a Good price I would highly recommend this one. You'll even enjoy the chiming at the end of the cycle to tell you your loads done. :-)"
