Just installed this door and so have little experience with its use. The frame is substantial and very sturdy, no bending or twisting. Handles and locks are another reason to buy this series. The ventilation feature is worth every penny. This is not an easy installation. It is like an erector set. Lots of pieces and lots of instructions and in its own way a interesting challenge to install. Two people are needed to install. The door is too heavy for one person to lift and measure. Once the door is up one person can finish the job. It is important to measure not just the width but also the height. Shimming the door from the top can eliminate problems with the sweep. I had to shim the locking panel and move it a half inch so it would meet up with the door. If you are using a drill with a torque adjustment. lighten the torque when tightening up the screws especially on the door hinges or use a screw driver for the last few turns. These are easily stripped. Yes you will have to lay on the ground to put the door closer on. Having a younger assistant is a plus for this step. Being patient and reading the instructions till you understand them makes this a very do able project.
Pros: Beautiful Appearance, Sturdy, Great Value, Well Made, High Quality
Yes, I recommend this product.

DO not buy- "drainage system" is designed to let water come through the door

We bought this door years ago and have noticed that our threshold which is wood it rotting. I opened our front door when it was raining to see water coming in through the Anderson storm door at the bottom of the glass and draining onto the threshold. I called Anderson as I thought there was a defect with the way it was made and so did the installers that I out installing another door. I was told by Anderson that they have a "drainage system" on their storm doors to allow water to drain through the door and onto the threshold. That their storm doors are not designed to keep water out. If this "feature" would have been listed anywhere on their website or info we would not have bought this door. So, unless you want to get a new door and then caulk it to keep the water out stay away!!!!
Cons: Quality, not functional
No, I do not recommend this product.

This storm door was a great investment in our home. I love that you have a clear view thru the glass, without having to look thru the screen unless you pull it down for ventilation. The foot closure is very nice when you have your hands full, and closes with a push of your fingertip. I would definately recommend this door! And, pay the extra for the installation if you can. Our installer was prompt, friendly, and quick!

I've read some of the other reviews, and I'm surprised so many people are unhappy with these. We bought three and had them professionally installed, and we love them. I did have to have our installer adjust the lock on one of the doors, as it felt like it was scraping or grinding a bit, but he fixed it easily before he left, and we've had no complaints whatsoever. They keep the bugs out and let in nice cross breezes, and so far, my active 4 year old hasn't broken or damaged any door parts. We've had them for about 6 months and don't regret the purchase at all. It sounds like we were smart to let Home Depot install them, though, from reading the other reviews. Good luck!

As others have said, Not for the Average DIY person. Andersen has made this door one of the most difficult to install. I just installed two for a Customer (I am a Contractor). Reading the instructions and doing a quality install will take 3 hours. There's some tricks, after drilling the holes for the Lock, assemble the entire lock and handles BEFORE you put the 2 screws that hold the locking mech. to the door end. The Top Inside will have two small screw holes (the plastic locking handle goes there and the Screen will be at the top). Andersen's instructions does not give good advice on locating the Top and Front.

This is the first Anderson storm door I've installed but I can't imagine an easier installation, short of having someone do it for you. There are some critical dimensions, so download the manual first and check those. Measure your opening in three places - top, middle, bottom; doors are rarely square and plumb.
The unit has plastic shims to keep everything spaced. Drop it in the opening, drive about 20 screws, install the lockset, adjust the sweep, install the header, install the closer. Couldn't be easier with clear instructions. 36" door was easy enough to handle with one person.
The box said 45 minutes and that's optimistic if it's your first time. It took me 2 hours including getting my tools together and cleaning up. I'd could easily shave 30 minutes off of that if I did a second one and might hit 45 minutes by my third one.
Can't speak to longevity but the door looks nice.

Anderson will give you the run around. Never mind registering the product IT DOES NOT MATTER. They still want a receipt for every issue. I purchased one in April and the closer broke in November. Same year. First they blamed me!!! Then said it was out of warranty. Then said they might replace the part if I provide a receipt.
Pros: Beautiful Appearance
Cons: Quality, no warranty, bad customer service

Purchased the door at 10 am and was still installing it at 3pm. Horrible instructions, they tell you to do things last that should be first. Like covering the hole on the side of the door with the Anderson plate. Also, where in the instructions does it tell you where the top inside is? Am I the only nit wit that put it together inside out? I finally got done and couldn't figure out where to put the screen latch until I read a review that said to look for the 2 screw holes at the top. Great, now it's on on the outside. What to do?
Cons: just awful instructions

Had this door for 5 years and it was installed by professionals so I cannot comment on ease of installation. By year 3 one or two of the screws holding the hinge to the door tore out to the point where I needed a larger screw to replace them because the threads were ruined. By year 5 almost all the screws have ripped out of the thin aluminum to the point were no screw will be adequate to replace them and the door had to be taken down because its literally falling off its hinges. I call Anderson and they blamed this failure on an improper installation so its my problem. I informed them that this was installed by professionals and they still said thats what the computer was telling them the problem was. This company used to have a good rep but no longer stands by their products. Stay away.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Bought this for front door five years ago. Gets daily use. Top storm window started falling on its own 2 months ago. All the catches in the frame of the door itself are ripped out. Very cheap, very soft, very thin aluminum. So top window stays in down (open) position. There is no way to repair this door as the catches are built into the frame of the door. Even though it is structural, Anderson says the track is a component and no longer covered under warranty. Do Not Buy This Door!

Seeing this door on display at the HD store, I was impressed with the appearance of the door and the feature that the screen could be nested in the top of the door. The door was reversible which was good as I needed a left hand swing. However the installation was a lot more difficult than expected. I was somewhat disappointed to find out the interior core of the door was particle board. I bought this door as it was made by Anderson, a nationally known door and window company and finding particle board was an unwanted surprise. The actual installation was more difficult than I expected as the instruction sheet that was included in the box was in my opinion poorly written. Using the instructions to put in the lock set was very time consuming. Actually it took longer to install the locking handle than it did to install the door and frame. I would recommend this door regarding price, but would strongly suggest that if the homeowner is not mechanically inclined to hire a professional for the installation.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Disappointed
I purchased this door a couple years ago for our last home and loved it. I purchased this door again for our new home and this door does not have the same quality as the previous one. It has plastic on the door where it used to have metal, the door is significantly lighter, is more cheaply made, and it doesn't shut correctly. We had Home Depot install the door so it was installed correctly. I called Anderson and the customer service specialist mentioned they have made changes to their door. I'm disappointed in the quality for the money. I have almost $400 in the door and wish I had purchased a different brand.

I have had this door for 4 1/2 years. It is on a south facing house. The plastic around the windows has warped and does not fit properly now. The latch at the top has never worked and it was originally installed and repaired once by a contractor. The self storing screen is falling apart.

I did some research before buying this door and was nervous based on some of the reviews. I really like the fact that the screen rolls up in the door and decided to look at the good reviews on this door.
I have had the door on the house about six months now and haven't had any issues.
Pros:
Screen rolls up into the door. I don't see how bugs could get around it since it has furry strips on each side holding the screen in. The screen didn't blow out in some really nasty winds a couple weeks ago.
I like the closer on the very bottom of the door. Based on reviews some poeple don't but to me this keeps it out of your eyeline every time you look out the door. I think it is a good clean look.
The handle is awesome, solid and thick. The thing has to be solid metal.
I really like the screw covers, they put a nice finish on the door, and make it look professional.
Finally I think the value for the money is favorable. This thing has been opened and shut multiple times a day by my kids and I and it still looks great. I can use a magic eraser to clean up some of the scuff marks that invarably get on the door.
Cons:
The installation is detailed but not difficult. I watched the video online, had one of my kids help and he read while I worked. A little under three hours and the door was up.
Not crazy about the little handle I had to install to attach the screen but not difficult either.
The door only opens to about 90 degrees, I had to take the pin out to get couches and chairs we purchased in and out of the house.
Overall everyone in the house really likes the door. The bump closer is great to hold the door open but it sure seems like the door closes to within about 5 inches before slowing down and closing gently. Will post again if anything goes wrong.

Bought the door in Aug 2011. The roll up screen first started coming out from the bottom. Used a spline tool to reinsert but kept popping out w any wind or pressure. Now it's come out completely on one side, and 1/4 thru the bottom. Went to Home Depot to compare & the model in store also has screen falling out, even wout any wind...VERY FLIMSY!! Opened the door the other day & screw popped right out of the door. Construction seems like garbage...Andersen is going to send me a new screen so I can pay someone to reinstall this screen...what a waste of time & money & this door was not cheap to begin with.

Cons: flimsy screen

We loved this door at the store. Had it professionally installed. Screws fell out the first night, door wouldn't latch properly. Contractor came and fixed it. A week later, we had a wind storm. The door was fully latched, but the wind managed to pull the door open, tearing the spring and hinge off. When we tried to close the door, the handle fell off. Even the weather stripping seemed to be low quality. Very disappointed.
