this is a loud radio and great for the job site, tough and durable.now the down side, really bad reception.i have to always change the station to find a clear signal and its not like I'm far away from a signal,I'm right in the big city and out skirts.another thing that i wish they would change is when the breaker goes in a house ,you flip the power back on and you have to push on the power button every time and turn the volume up again and this happens all the time on a job site.you don't even know if you have the right breaker switch on because you cant here the radio on.the radio is big and heavy,it would be nice if there was a smaller one out there.
Yes, I recommend this product.

For starters this radio is heavy. 23 lbs is not fun to pack around on the jobsite all the time. The second issue is that this stereo does not run off the battery as it says. At least i have not got it to. Sound quality is ok. compared to other jobsite radios sound quality is not that great. This radio accomodates an ipod but the jack for the ipod is not working well even when it was a brand new radio. if you own a zune or larger mp3 player it does not fit in the tiny compartment. all in all it is an ok radio. The Dewalt broke within 6 months of me owning it. I would probably go for the Bosch or Milwaukee if i had to buy another.

I like the radio, it gets great reception, the sound quality is great, the only thing I dont like is that it DOES NOT charge the batteries. The price is to much because the unit doesnt charge the battery. A remote would be nice too. I would say that if Ridgid were to improve this radio, they should make it charge the battery, make the LCD display easier to see in the sun, and make the radio a little bit louder. the unit is well built, you can definately tell it is there when you pick it up (i.e. its heavy) but that is a good thing because it takes a very steep roof to get the radio to slide because of the rubber feet. The radio has many nice features I just wish it charged the battery.
Yes, I recommend this product.

When I got this, it said nothing about not charging your battery on the outside of the box that I could find. Since so many others do charge the battery while plugged in, I would have thought this one would as well. That is what I get for thinking. It does NOT charge your battery. For a 50 cent circuit, it is ridiculous that they didn't put that in. After all, that battery holder and contacts are already there. TO BAD Rigid ................Taking it back.

1.) My biggest disappointment with this radio is that you cannot control the iPod through the radio...you must open the sealed compartment to push play or skip or etc.
2.) This thing is HEAVY.
3.) Radio reception is average for a jobsite radio. Digital tuning may limit fine tuning.
4.) it's not the loudest. It could use about 5 more notches on the volume. I often crank to 10 and think "is that really it?"
5.) For the price, this should come with a remote too.
6.) The digital display is difficult to see in the daylight.
7.) I got this as a gift for Christmas...I would not have bought it otherwise.
No, I do not recommend this product.

First as a note: The radio can not "run" off of a battery because dewalt patented that technology (also why you don't see any other radio's that run off of a battery).
Overall it is good -
It is well built, but it is very heavy. The sound is ok - not the greatest by any means, but for a job site, it gets the job done fairly well. I do like the sealed compartment for the IPOD. When we're inside doing remodeling and such, it's keeping the IPOD "out of the elements". (the compartment does a good job keeping dust and such from reaching the Ipod.)
Yes, I recommend this product.

It's big, protected, fairly powerful, has good bass responce, & works well with my I-pod, protection is excellent. The tray is a little hard to use while charging my phone because of the handle. The cigarette power outlet is ok, but a USB outlet would be much better. It has a tendency to suck dry the battery that is powering it while not being plugged in, and, sadly, it dosen't charge the slide style batteries. Now, if you like to gamble, buy this product, because my radio tuner is HORRIABLE!! I can only get half dozen stations, & I'm close to a big city. Even using an external antenna of different style & sizes makes no difference. If RIDGE gets the tuner right, this would be a very good unit. Yea, I know, I read the reviews. But I thought the bad reception was a fluke. I came up snake eyes.

Its a good radio but not a charger the reason being charging a battery makes the radio lose reception you'll notice milwaukee no longer makes radios that charge either. Try it for yourself place your radio near a charger actively charging a battery and your reception will be gone or at least severely diminished so...just understand it is a reality and plan accordingly its well built in the tradition of RIDGID tools and i expect it to compliment my jobsite for many years to come.

I bougt the Rigid radio about 2 months ago. It is a heavy and solid piece of equipment. However , I am unable to use a battery for this product. I have gone through 3 Rigid 18v Lithum batteries, as well as 2 battery chargers. The radio plays very well conected to the outlet. But that is as far as it go's. Maybe I got a bad radio???

This Radio Gets the Job Done , by being pretty basic. Yes you have to control the ipod with the door open, but just put your ipod on shuffle and forget it. An ipod touch will not fit inside of it, for the record. All in all You get what you pay for, meaning I have Ridgid tools, radio w/ battery charger. If you have Dewalt buy Dewalt , Milwaukee buy Milwaukee.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Like all RIDGID products the Job site radio is very solid. The radio works great. I have a Zune so I did not like that it is really made for the ipod. I had to add a car adaptor to charge my Zune but it plays great once I got it hooked up. I wish the compartment that holds the ipod was big enough for my Zune.

This is a great radio with great sound. I like the fact it charges an Ipod and you can play music from your Ipod However their are a few major problems with the design. It is on the heavy and large side but the big draw back is it does not charge the batteries like the Dewalt. You can only use the batteries to play the music.

In order to change music tracks you have to open the dock compartment and actually use the click wheel when you have an ipod docked. why didn't they make it so that you can change tracks with the keypad.

I love the fact it protects my I Pod but it really doesnt go loud enough, and the sound isn't that great. The bass control works but it needs to have a treble control to compensate.
