Disaster,
January 22, 2010
By GinaQ

"I'm so disappointed with this appliance. It has a very large capacity, is whisper quiet, and cleans anything and everything. HOWEVER, I've had nothing but trouble. If we hadn't bought the extended warranty, I don't know what we would have done. It's been repaired about 10 times, replaced once and now after a few short years, the warranty company is refunding our money. When it works, it's a gem, but it rarely works!"

Quiet, easy to use,

"The dishwasher is quiet and functions as the sales rep in the store described. I have had the dishwasher for a week and its been doing a great job of cleaning the dishes the first time and without any issues drying. The cycle time, with the hot water temp at my house, is roughly 2 hours.
It is a fairly attractive appliance and the full stainless front and tub is different than other models in this price range that add in black accents."

Piece of junk!!!!,
November 12, 2009
By TracyK

"This dishwasher started to give us trouble right after the warranty went out on it. Draining problems, erroring out, just a piece of garbage! It no longer works as of a few days ago... We hate this dishwasher-- I mean the whole family when I say we. Some silverware always came out dirty because there was no room for it. For the $800ish price, it was not even worth it. Don't buy LG dishwashers. Go with another company! By the way, we love our LG fridge--just not the dishwasher!"

Another quality LG product in the home,
November 7, 2009
By CMartin

"This unit has been installed for over a year now and we love it. This dishwasher makes almost no noise while in use. So it takes 2 hours to run a cycle – who cares as long as I do not have to hear it run. Dishes are clean and dry when the cycle completes. This unit also has a built in disposal so no need to empty a catch filter on the inside. The hidden heating element means I can (and have) put Tupperware and cutting boards on the lower rack without worrying about melting. This product has been far superior to any of the other brands we have owned."

Do Not Waste Your Money. CHEAP & Poor Design!!!,
October 30, 2009
By RichRagus
from San Diego, Ca
"I had this dishwasher installed for less than a month when the problems started occurring. The inner seal is 1-2 millimeters distance from the wheel tracks for each tray, and with a very strange design flaw of the metal piece facing outwrads, primed for disaster. If the tray is not put in exactly within the 1-2 millimeter window, the wheels hit this metal piece, and they break off extremely easily.
Once this piece breaks off, you cannot open or close the washer without the wheels constantly jamming into this piece, breaking it off even more from the frame. To put the trays back in you have to hold the piece in place.
Immediately once this happened I called LG to send a technician, he mentioned that this is something they've seen before with this model. Great.
I was putting the clean silverware away, and a prong on a fork was pushed through one of the holes. I put the rack down, it fell on the ground, and SHATTERED into hundreds of pieces of CHEAP plastic. This tray no longer works anymore either.
I would NEVER recommend this LG product to ANYONE!!!
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS LG PRODUCT!!!!"

Sleek and Clean,
August 12, 2009
By esnow

"I felt compelled to write this review after I researched, purchased, and used this dishwasher. First of all, for those of you who researched after purchasing, don't be scared.
It cleans great and the cycles are not as long as some have stated ( Two hours on the normal cycle to wash and dry). I will say that plasic wear is not completely dry and may need to be wiped off. But I bought this dishwasher to save energy and I think it does. My main concern is that I read how it vents from the bottom and can leave your floors wet, hot, damp, and potentially burn your feet. This is crazy. I have not experienced this at all. The installer had never heard of this either.
This dishwasher looks great, cleans well and is easy to use.
Pros:
Cleans well, holds a lot of dishes
Cons:
It only keeps little ones out during cycles when you can use the childlock

Great dishwasher,

"This is a great dishwasher. It has extra large capacity compared to our old GE dishwasher and so we can fit more dishes in it. It cleans very well - just use the recommended dish washing powder and rinsing liquid.
The best feature is it is very quiet - as quiet as advertised by the sales person in the store.

perfect dishwasher,
June 20, 2009

"I just purchased this machine, and I have been using it for almost a month now. I too am surprised by some of the negative reviews. So far, I do not have a single problem with this dishwasher. I neither work for home depot or LG, just a satisfied customer.
Some have complained about the cycle time. I have no problem with it, and it is actually a benefit. If the government ever completely bans phosphates from dishwashing detergent, you will be wishing you had a dishwasher with a long cycle time. If you are a person who likes to use "green" products, you will love this dishwasher because the long cycle time will work well with environmentally friendly detergent. It even has an extended cycle called Power Scrub that makes it run for 3 hours instead of 2. You also have the option to add an extra rinse cycle, which will add even more time to the whole cycle. This dishwasher is energy efficient so do not worry about the cycle time.
Noise level? This dishwasher is VERY quiet. I have an open floor plan, so I can run the dishwasher any time I please.
To those who purchase this dishwasher, you MUST use rinse-aid for the drying to work properly. I do three to four loads a week, and all of my glassware, metal, ceramics, and all of my bowls have come out completely dry. Plastics will dry only to a certain degree, I explain this better later in my review.
Also, let me clear up some confusion. Some have said this dishwasher has no heater. It DOES have a heater, but it is an internal water heater. It is not an external heating element sitting on the bottom of the dishwasher tub. This is a GOOD thing. If you choose to use the Sani-Rinse option, the water heater will raise the incoming hot water to the proper temperature during the rinse cycle to ensure that your dishes are sanitized. This heater is NOT activated during the drying process. This dishwasher uses a combination of condensation and a very quiet fan to draw the moisture off of your dishes. It is no gimmick, and it works. It has worked perfectly for me every time. My dishes come out sparkling clean, no streaks. The ONLY thing this dishwasher will not dry very well, are plastic cups. The insides of the plastic cups will be dry, but if the bottom of the cup has a depression, it will be filled with water. I simply recommend that if you purchase plastic cups for use in your household, look at the bottom of the cups and make sure it is FLAT. Do not buy one with a depression on the bottom. Also, the water heater in your home needs to heat the water to a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit, as per the directions. If the incoming water is not hot enough, you are only causing problems for yourself. The detergent will not do its job, you will cause the internal water heater to wear faster, and you will see overall diminished results. Don't try to save a buck by turning your water heater down too low. That goes for any dishwasher, not just this one.
The only reason I would not recommend this dishwasher, is if you DEMAND that your plastic wear comes out 100% dry. In that case, you will need to buy a dishwasher with a heating element in the bottom of the tub. You will be sacrificing energy efficiency though. Those heating elements are high-wattage, and it will have an effect on your electric bill, which will add up over the years of using a dishwasher with one.
A quick note, this dishwasher can be compared to BOSCH dishwashers. It has a stainless steel interior, and uses the same drying method. BOSCH happens to make some of the top-rated dishwashers in the world, and is deemed one of the most reliable brands. They are also VERY expensive. So you are getting the same features and benefits as a BOSCH for less money by going with this LG model. (Again, neither brand will dry plastics perfectly because of the drying method.)
A neat feature I have never seen on a dishwasher, is this makes a soft audible chime (it actually chimes out a short tune) at the end of the cycle. I find it useful because sometimes I like to unload the dishwasher when it's finished running. You must disable the chime each time, if you don't want it to play. There is no option to permanently disable it, but that does not bother me.
As far as reliability, LG is relatively new in the dishwasher field. I purchased the 4 year extended service plan just in case. I think Home Depot has great prices on their extended service plans. That said, I hope I never have to use it."

I never knew a machine could be so quet,
June 15, 2009

"Just bought this machine 2 weeks ago. Got it delivered last Thursday morning and installed it in time for the lunch dishes. Our old one, we used to set it with a 2 or 4 hour delay so it wouldn't disturb our evening, but this thing is so quiet, I think I could meditate in the same room undisturbed. I am amazed. However, one feature it doesn't have, which the old one did, is a light indicating that it has completed a wash. With this LG I have to remember that I did turn it on"

The quietest dishwasher ever!!,

"I never used my old dishwasher because I couldn't stand the noise. I never even know when my husband has started this one! It is so quiet that you can have it running and still sit and eat at the kitchen table without even knowing it is on. The cutest part is that it plays a little tune at the end of the cycle to let you know when it is finished. AWESOME!!! I am very satisfied with this purchase."

Satisfied,

"We purchases a LDS4821WW in December 2008. So far we have been very satisfied with the unit. The manual says to use separate soap and spot free rinse aid and it means just that. We tried using a combination and the results were unsatisfactory. Upon switching to the separate products the results became very satisfactory. It cleans well and dries spot free just as we had wished. The only improvement we could ask for would be delayed start function."
