EArthmaker 124 gal. Composter

The Exaco Trading Co. Earthmaker 124-Gallon Composter is designed as an efficient way to dispose of organic domestic waste. It features large openings for adding waste and removing compost. This composter keeps the fresh waste and mature compost separate. As the material decomposes, it loosens and spills from shelf to shelf.

It holds a lot and is easy to assemble. However it is very difficult to maintain good moisture throughout the device and material in the back will probably dry out and not become compost. Trying to distribute water to the back of the device through all three chambers is messy, smelly, and ineffective - and if you are going to get all messy and smelly why spend this amount of money?
No, I do not recommend this product.

Well constructed and sturdy. I like that I can add material continuously instead of composting in batches. Has held up well to rain and heat. No sign of rodents as with compost piles. It does have bugs inside but does not smell. Be sure to cut up any food - don't put a whole potato in.
Yes, I recommend this product.

When looking for a composter, I liked this one because you could be working on more than one batch of compost as a time.
It is very easy to put together and extremely easy to take apart, especially by my dogs. I finally had to move mine because the dogs kept taking it apart.
It is now away from the dogs and secured with duct tape, as the sliders that keep the 4 sides together are not always effective.
I currently have a batch in the upper and middle part of the composter so yet to see how well it works.
No, I do not recommend this product.

What I like most about this product is the separation of materials--what is added and the finished compost. I like the shape of this composter as it fits nicely in the yard.

This is easy to put together as others have said. Also the instructions say to place in the shade but then another paper said only if you live in a hot climate. But there was no mention of how to measure if you live in a hot climate. I went conservative and placed it in shade. I don't know how well it will compost yet. It went up today. We made a base of square patio blocks and placed it on top. There's a banana peel in it so far. Yeah!
Yes, I recommend this product.

Composter is new so I can't give feedback on its process yet, but I put it together in a couple of hours by myself. Problem that I can see so far is the lid will not stay on after our severe winds for today as it has no latch and absolutely should have one. Worse thing to buy something and no way to fasten it shut.
For composting itself I think it will do fine with the different levels. Will update review in a couple of months and see how it works.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Shipping was very fast, price was reasonable. Put together fairly quickly. I'm really happy with it so far. It is an upgrade from the type of composter that simply layers everything you put in at the bottom. The slide system will hopefully create usable compost while still allowing me to add fresh material. I put it at the back of our small yard under a large lilac and by dusk it is completely invisible back there.
I hope the door stays tight enough to protect it from invading critters. No problem yet but I wish it had a locking mechanism. The door hangs from a tab but is inset to keep it flat. As I look at the pic above I think a bungee cord could go around the middle if it becomes an issue.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Unable to get the material to drop to base. Didn't realize it was stuck at 2nd level and since it holds so much --I now have a big messy mess. Should have just built one.

Very simple to put together. One person can do it, but it's easier with two. Instructions are simple to follow. Seems sturdy enough to hold together. We just had 6 inches of rain in 36 hours, and no extra water seeped in. It is not an eyesore in your yard.
Yes, I recommend this product.

After shopping the internet and other sources for just the right system to start composting rather that wasting a good natural resource, I settled on the Earthmaker, 124 gal Composter from Home Depot. It seemed to be the best bargain for price and shipping, ease of assembly and ease of operation. The drop down method used is practically carefree. Puit materials in the top, add some starter and practically ignore until you start sccoping mature compost from the bottom bin. Using food waste and yard waste provides much needed nutrients and rich soil to my garden and flower beds. No more buying bagged compost of questionable quality. I calculate that it will easily pay for itself in one or two growing seasons. I am happy to have taken one more step in keeping our earth green.
Yes, I recommend this product.

We had identified this composter as the one that we wanted to add to our ecosystem and found that Home Depot had the lowest cost including shipping. The unit was easy to assemble and appears to be doing it's thing but we won't really know for a few months. Note that it doesn't have a base. We tried to place it on concrete beside our garage but had to move it to the yard due to the drainage and the creatures that move in to help with the composting process.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This product arrived quickly, was easy to assemble, and is as described. It fits a lot of yard/kitchen waste, comes with good instructions, and a tool to move around the compost. We were surprised that it has no bottom, but that seems to make sense, especially if you're planning on putting it on the dirt. It seems pretty easy to use. I'll let you know in a couple of months if we get good compost out of it, I don't see why we wouldn't.
Yes, I recommend this product.
