Drywall Vacuum Sander

The Marshalltown Drywall Vacuum Sander is an ideal tool for clean, virtually dustless drywall sanding. The soft, ergonomic handle offers a comfortable grip while a pivoting hose connector allows ease of use when sanding vertical surfaces. We just bought/moved into a foreclosure during the holidays. The previous owner was in the middle of doing renovations. He sure loved to slapping compound all over the walls, but didn't care so much for laying it on thin or sanding it down at all.
I had a hefty sanding task ahead of me and knew it would be a nightmare. I tried a powered orbital sander and it left an awful mess. Not to mention the wife wasn't too happy with dust all over. Manual sanding was still going to be dusty so I searched for a solution and found this.
I originally say another brand at the other chain, but it's reviews were bad. This one had good reviews so I went for it. It's great. It sucks up nearly all the dust. I only have to worry about the film that's left on the wall. That's far much better than piles on the floor for the cats to track around. Attached to my 6.5 HP blower/vac, this thing simply works. It clings to the wall all on its own!
I'm enjoying sanding much more now...almost too much..almost. At least I'm getting my honey-do list trimmed down. Okay, who am I kidding, I'm making room on the list for other things.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Hooked it up to 14 gallon 6.5 peak HP shop vac with liner and really good filter, did not have much sanding dust. I used to do the first passes and knock down the higher bumps and ridges and then switched to a sanding sponge because the 120 grit sanding mesh was leaving some small grooves/lines. I was doing a flat wall finsh (no texture) so needed it smooth. Maybe a finer grit or sanding mesh that was more wore out would have helped. I have a bunch more to do so will experiment with other sanding mesh to see if I can further reduce the use of a sanding sponge. It was sometimes a big awkward to manuever. I was happy with the product, it did reduce the sanding dust.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I am quite pleased with this accessory. It fits on my shop vac perfectly and catches most of the dust created during the sanding of the drywall. So far I have used the vacuum sander for a couple of hours, but I will be using it extensively as I finish drywalling the room above our garage. As others have suggested, be sure to purchase the appropriate filter for your shop vac.
Pros: Easy to Use, Performs Well, High Quality, Light Weight

This product performed as advertised. I used this units vaccuum power level on maximum suction (it is adjustable, less suction would give you more dust I assume, but easier to sand), I hate drywall dust. The suction was so great it would hold product to wall with no hands (using a wet/dry vac), making it a little more difficult to move back and forth to sand. The hose is also a little restricting when sanding as well as moving the vac around. This is a small price to pay however. When I was finished sanding the 3' X 5' area there was barely any evidence I had worked there, amazing results. If you are in an area that low or no dust is a must and you are willing to sacrifice a little in the "ease of use" department then this product is for you, highly recommended.

Being that I have sever back problems, I was extremely impressed at the results of this little item. The walls I replaced were in two finished and lived in rooms. As I did the finish sanding could not believe that I didn't have even a small mess to clean up. Should I have any more rock work to do or know of anybody that is planning to do same I would STRONGLY recommend this tool. All I can say is WOW!!!:-)

The sander was not flat at all. All four corners were proud of the rest. It was cupped in both directions. Saw another review with same complaint. He used belt sander to make it flat. Lame. Another issue is it seams about 1/4" too long and the threaded studs for the clamps are too short. Makes it difficult to install screen. I returned it.
Went to buy the MASTERFORCE unit at Menards. Half the price of this Marshalltown system but has the same flatness issue. So, I guess it doesn't matter. I didn't buy that one either.
Pros: Light Weight
Cons: not flat, threaded studs too short
No, I do not recommend this product.

This sanders works as advertised. Sucks up about 95% of the drywall dust. Be sure to get a fine dust filter or hepa filter for your shop vac. Better yet a bag to collect the drywall dust if you can find one that fits your vac. I would highly recommend this sanding system to keep your work area very clean while sanding.

I couldn't agree with the numerous reviews any more. As a typical do-it-yourself person, I tend to put compound on too heavy at times and I always hated the thoughts of getting the sanding block out and making that huge mess. With this tool, it just makes it a snap. No mess, no worry. I can't believe there is literally no dust in the room when I am done.

I didn't use the product as I wasn't impressed with the quality of it. It seemed very flimsy and the sanding pad didn't appear to be flat. (Kinda important when you're trying to smooth out joints!) It also didn't help that two important parts were missing from the box when I received it -- both couplers that connect it to the vacuum!
No, I do not recommend this product.

I had no problem hooking this up to my Rigid dryvac using the included hose adapters. While the switch to control the vacuum pressure seemed cheaply applied, it worked. I was able to use the drywall screen to sand certain areas of the room without a mask on. It was great not having to deal with a huge, dusty mess.

This sander worked great. Absolutely dust free sanding! The only downside was I had to purchase several filters for my shop vac., but that just meant the sander was working as it should. I didn’t have to tape off the room or put down drop cloths for dust control. The sander captured literally all of the dust. Best purchase I’ve made in a long time.

When this product arrived, the corners were bowed in and the whole sanding surface was a little cupped. Looks like its a manufacturing defect. I was bale st square everything up easily enough by taking it to the belt sander and now it works like a champ. While it doesn't get all the dust, it does do well enought to be a good investment. I would estimate it collects about 95% of it.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I just did my first drywall project and used this. There was only minimal dust. I had a lot of dust when I used a sanding sponge to get some tight spots this sander would not fit into, but had very little dust with this attached to my shop vac. I will definitley use it on my next drywall project.

Overall the product works well enough. The little slide valve to adjust the amount of vacuum bleed off keep moving on its own. The hose is not long enough to get very far away from the vacuum cleaner so when doing the ceiling it becomes difficult as the hose "pulls" on the person doing the sanding This make ones arms prematurely tired from the extra encumbrance of a short and heavy hose.

This does a great job for me when sanding. The unit swivels 360 and easily hooks up to my 8 gallon ShopVac. I am using a Hepa filter and a bag for collecting drywall dust and I have virtually no dust flying around anywhere. The sander is light and made of hard plastic and has a comfortable grip. It is easy to find a good holding position. It lets you change sanding screens very easily. I like the sliding vacuum pressure adjustment. The week before I bought it, I was covered in dust every time I sanded. Now I've been sanding a 20'x20' room for about an hour or so and can't believe how clean I still am. It makes my wife happy and that makes me happy. It may be a little awkward moving around with a 6 ft hose, but it saves you time and money with cleanup. My only regret is I didn't buy it sooner.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Purchased this dustless sander after trying another brand that didn't work very well. Read postive reviews online and thought I would give it a shot. I am remodeling a third floor (2 rooms 300 sf) and fixed two walls in the mother-in-laws house.
The sander was great. Removed about 90 to 95% of the typical drywall dust. Way above my expectations (and the mother-in-laws). I had it connected to a large model shop vac with a high quality air filter designed for drywall dust.
Definately would recommend for the d.i.y.'rs looking to keep dust way down.
Yes, I recommend this product.
