We originally had done research on costs and bought via an old fashioned on-site visit to ABC Warehouse to buy a similar freezer - it was not a GE model, but instead a Frigidaire model. The store mixed up our delivery date then had us waiting for hours and then had to re-schedule weeks later and it just went downhill from that. We ended up canceling our order. We did further internet reserach and bought on-line the current GE model via The Home Depot.
The freezer is just as advertised - over-all size, quality, noise levels, etc. We got a white 13.7 c/f frost free freezer. The unit was delivered right on time and set up in about 5 minutes. We let the unit run for 2-3 days to be safe and then filled it up. Everything seems to be chilled just right with no issues. The unit came to us undamaged and required only a simple plug into the wall to work. All the codes were set so, we were off and running with just a quick adjustment to the legs on the units for leveling purposes. We read the manual and sent back the registration card as requested. We did not spend the money on an extended warranty and hope we won't regret it. Hopefully, the unit is made to last.
We have our unit in the garage and can check on it daily as we park our cars in here. We unload frozen groceries right into the freezer so, it's super convenient and we don't have to haul extras upstairs into our house. We do not notice any noise at all - it seems fine to us. Perhaps in a house where it is much quieter it could be an issue, but not for us. We feel the interior is very roomy and fits everything you can imagine -dairy, frozen veggies, meats, breads, deserts, etc.
We spent only $7.00 more purchasing on-line versus the site and store visit noted earlier. The priceThe Home Depot offers is super competitive - we felt it beat everyone else out. Some places had lower prices, but delivery charges (often between $50-75) increased the final numbers to a higher level. The Home Depot had no extra delivery charge and that made all the difference. We said what day/time we wanted delivery to happen and it went off without a hitch. I am beginning to like not having to deal with TERRIBLE SERVICE PEOPLE. The internet is where it's at IF things go well. They did here.
We have only had the freezer for a few weeks and hope to save long term with sale items, bulk purchases and more home cooking/freezing so, we expect to be happy long term. So...so far, so good. I would give 5 stars on quality/value if we had the unti 1-2 years and could evaluate farther out. For now, I'll give 4 stars with what we had experienced so far.
The quick on-line ordering, delivery, set up and final use went flawlessly. I would recommend this freezer model and Home Depot on-line processing without question at this time.

After growing weary of manually defrosting previous upright freezer I replaced it with this model after doing much research. Although I was a bit concerned about the noise factor of some reviews I went ahead with the purchase since I've always had good luck with GE and it was a GE manual freezer I was replacing anyway. Delivery and installation went as scheduled and without issues. It has very clean lines, the shelving is laid out perfectly both within the unit and also the door shelves. The sliding basket in the bottom is very convenient and the lighting is quite adequate.
Almost immediately I learned why others complained about the noise level. I even recorded it with my smartphone and played it back to a GE customer service rep. She told me the excessive noise level is due to the high efficiency condensor motor and that this was not uncommon, as it spins at a much higher speed. She also told me this would dissipate once more food was placed within the unit. In the day or so after installation when I had finally transferred all the food from the old to the new freezer and it reached temp, the noise did in fact abate and is hardly noticeable now.
So the bottom line is be patient, and by all means, go ahead and load it up since it runs more efficiently that way. I'm SO glad the day I always had to set aside to manually defrost my freezer are behind me now!
A note to the person who complained about not knowing what the internal temperature of the freezer is: buy a freezer thermometer (you should do that regardless) for a few bucks. It's an insignificant amount of money to spend that'll buy you peace of mind in the long run.

It is a little noisy, but it's in the garage so we don't hear it. It's a great size - large enough to hold my Turkey and hamd and everything else I bought for Thanksgiving!

I know you're not supposed to mention service but it was the only thing that was excellent. The freezer did not work from the first day. The bottom rack froze food but the middle and top racks only thawed food. We made sure it was leveled and tried a few other suggestions, to no avail. Finally called for service and we were told that the fan was hitting something so it wasn't even spinning. It took no time to fix it. Hopefully, it will be spinning and freezing from now on. Home Depot has been great to deal with so I guess our problem is G.E.

For years, I used a manual defrost freezer as my over-run freezer. During the last defrost, however, I made the decision to upgrade to an automatic defrost freezer. After shopping and comparing prices and value on the internet, I chose the GE upright freezer and have been nothing but glad. I selected the GE brand because of their reputation. Delivery and installation were superb. I read some other reviews regarding noise the freezer produces; however, I have not experienced that particular problem.

Has ample storage space and the pull out basket is a plus. The light inside is great. Holds a lot and items are easily accessible. Is in room next to bedroom and, although not silent, does not affect sleep. After installation, cooled quickly and froze items overnight. An overall great purchase.

Lots of space for storage but takes up less space than previous freezer. Makes more noise and runs more often than previous freezer, but should be expected as it is a frost free and has different configuration than the old manual defrost model.
