We installed a pellet stove in December 2011...and by January, our dog was itching, I was drinking a bottle of water during the night, our sinuses were dry...oh, do we need a humidifier?? After several friends told us that "yes, we use humidifiers with our stoves", we jumped on the band wagon. We bought one for the living room where the stove is, and one for our bedroom. I also purchased a humidity gauge for $10 because how could we tell if we had too much or not enough humidity? Works great,,,easy to use...I am a light sleeper and except for a gurgle now and again. it is very quiet. Would recommend.

I've only used it for a week, but thus far it has worked just fine. Everyone says it is quiet, which it is, but only sometimes. You can hear the gurgling of the water now and then so for someone that likes silence when sleeping, this will be slightly bothersome. Other than that, it's great.

I bought two of these humidifiers for our bedrooms and I am very pleased with it. It is very quiet and I could sleep through out the night without being annoyed by a slight noise.

This took less than 5 minutes to have up and running.
WHITE DUST issue and solution - Some reviewers have noted a white dust and complained about having to use distilled water. The instructions noted that filtered water could also be used in houses with hard water, so I use my Brita water pitcher to fill it up once a day. I wasn't sure if I had hard water so went to e-how, which noted ~80% of houses do and a tell-tale sign is white calcium deposits around faucets.
MAINTENANCE - While this does not have a filter, it does take some maintenance. It requires emptying the unit once a day and wiping it dry to prevent bacteria. Once a week, it needs to be cleaned with a vinegar and water solution.
PLACEMENT - The instructions noted that it should be placed on a non-wood level service several feet high, at least 4 feet away from walls. This doesn't exist in my house! I plan to buy a small plastic table so I can place in more in the middle of the room and occasionally move it around. The cord is rather short (~4 feet), so this solution will require an extension cord too.

Just what I wanted in a humidifier. The cool mist is better for the summer. Its quiet and there are no filters required. Easy to operate and clean, instructions are straight forward. Price is very affordable!

I spent a number of days researching humidifiers and continously came across this small Crane cool mist humidifier. First off, you don't need any filters or cartridges so there is no additional cost to own. (but Crane does offer this) You can use tap water but distilled is prefered to avoid the "white dust". It can easily be cleaned with a vinegar/water solution & it instructs you in the included pamphlet. There is a continous running light when it is on. I'm unsure what it looks like when the water runs out, as I haven't let it run that low. Filling it to the top and turning the knob half way lasts about 2 days for us. The top spout can turn any direction. I've read reviews that this was hard to fill and I find this untrue. The tank turned upside down is a cone with the tip "cut off". In the sink you can fill it and try to balance the bottom. I fill mine with a gallon of distilled & just tuck the tank under my opposite arm.
I was unable to access the site the day I ordered so I did over the phone. The woman who assisted me was very helpful and even let me use my military discount over the phone. My only disappointment is that there is no shipping offered directly to the store. Asside from all that arrived perfectly within a few days and even had paid return postage!!

I looked at many styles of humidifiers and reviews online before choosing this one but will not repurchase this. Have had this style unit for 2 seasons and liked the look, operation, tiny night light and that you didn't need a filter with it. Still, after a few months use, the first unit had a crack in it near the base and leaked water out. The manufacturer sent a new unit out and that one also did the same thing recently. Some would say it was probably hit which caused the cracking but that was definitely not the case both times. I suppose it may be the pressure from the water. We used this every night during the winter months. Will not call Crane this time to have it replaced as I'll just look for another unit. Surprised that I haven't seen this problem in reviews here although I did read another one where someone said to not fill it to the top. That may be the reason for the pressure cracks.

If you have read all the other reviews up until now, they are all true. I bought this humidifier because I kept waking up in the middle of the night with a dry throat and nasty cough. After filling this up (which was a snap even in my shallow bathroom sink) and turning it on, I was so happy to see the happy little mist plume flow from the machine. Not a sound. I turned it on full blast and left the room to sit and moisturize for about 4 hours. When I returned, was I shocked to see my room was actually foggy! I was surprised this little machine could put out so much moisture. Now, a fill-up before bed and no more waking up to any sort of dryness. Great product.

I recently purchased this humidifier after hours of internet research on the various ones out there and agree with those who believe this is the best bet for a room humidifier that won't lighten your wallet too much. I live in a very dry climate and suffer from dry eyes. This does help.
You must clean it with a vinegar solution every few does so no red mold builds up. It is pretty easy to do as is filling it. You can adjust the output of humidity as well as the direction and it performs well.

This unit does the trick for the smaller size room. Runs very quietly, fills directly from the bathroom faucet, easy to clean and the teardrop shape looks great.
Nothing like cool mist for sleeping especially if you suffer with sinus problems and or congestion.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this humidifier. Home Depot had the best price by about $10 and I knew could return it to the store with ease if needed. The first couple of nights, the humidifier seemed to stop producing mist after about 2 hours. I lifted the water reservoir and set it back down again and the mist resumed. We noticed a difference in our air and even less dry skin while using this. After a couple nights, the unit would make a loud glugging noise similar to an office water dispenser every few hours. The noise was so loud it woke me up, but it may not bother some people. The only other negative was that when carrying the reservoir to refill it, the water on the bottom would drip all the way to my sink (even turned upside down).
We ended up turning returning the unit to our local Home Depot who were helpful in refunding our money.
Other than the glugging noise (which may have been a defect on that particular unit) this was the perfect cool mist humidifier - small and stylish enough to sit on my nightstand, great control of the amount of mist and direction of mist, could run for min 10 hours.

This humidifier is wonderful. I have been using a warm mist humidifier for a few months to help my sinus issues but it didnt put enough moisture in the air...and I couldnt tell a difference. After one night of having this Crane humidifier on my bedside table I could tell a huge difference. On the high setting it lasts all night and the cool mist it emits is very refreshing. It is silent and perfect. I would recommend this to anyone having sinus issues!

This humidifier is the absolute best! Very quiet!!! What little bit of noise it does make (a little bit of bubbles when water is released from the water tank) is in no way disturbing. Been using it now for 2 weeks in our bedroom and I notice feeling much more rested and less congested. We buy reverse osmosis bottled water, so I have not cleaned it yet because I use it every night and don't allow water to remain in it, but when I do clean it the cleaning directions are very simple, unlike the vaporizers or humidifiers you have to soak for hours in straight vinegar. I hope to add more of these to our home for total comfort during these dry winter months. Thanks, Crane!
