This Char Broil grill is not an Infrared grill because it doesn't have any infrared burners! This is a radiant type tube burners that radiates heat to the plate above it preventing any flare ups. True infrared burners can be seen on the internet at some other manufacture of grills.

Had my old grill for about 10 years and had replaced burners one time, and it didn't grill evenly before or after. This grill is fantastic. I have done hamburgers, steak, chicken, pork chops, baked potatoes and corn-on-the-cob. All have been done perfectly, juicy and not dried out or burned, even my wife's preference of "well-done" which is a miracle in itself. The only down side so far is that one cannot move food to a "low heat" area because the heat is so even.. so to have rare, medium and well-done it has to be timed as to when you put it on the grill.. which is not a real problem.
Yes, I recommend this product.

As a grill, it worked pretty well at first, but then....
. The thin stainless steel extensions flapped in the
breeze, then they cut the grill cover.
. One of the four steel pads that hold the diffuser
trough fell off; when I called for a replacement, the
price was $80. plus tax and shipping. I was able to
improvise new spacers and still use the grill.
. The printing on the stainless steel is deteriorating
and illegible.
. The darn thing still cooks well enough when I use
it, but I have to baby it. NOT A GOOD BUY!!
No, I do not recommend this product.

We have only had this for a year - took good care of it, kept it covered, etc., but it still rusted on the inside and all of the lettering has rubbed off so that you can't tell where anything is. Very disappointing.

All is well. Electronic ignition is dead. DOA. Tried new batteries, etc. to no avail. I use a long fireplace lighter to start it and it works like a charm.
Great value if ignition ever works. I haven't called them yet to troubleshoot, but it ain't that hard to put in a battery.....

Purchased the grill unassembled, and it took much less time than some other reviews (and even another customer in the store) suggested: A little over an hour, with children helping. Fired it up with no problems.
Grill does take a little time to heat up, but it gets HOT. Way hotter than my previous 3-burner grill. IR thermometer read over 750 on the grate. Perfect for steaks, but the instructions are correct: it cooks faster than you're used to so keep an eye on it. The radiant pan really does prevent any flare ups, and also holds heat, more than I expected. For non-face-melting-termperature cooking I kept having to turn it farther down (cooked 14 ears of corn at once, to perfection). I haven't tested the truly low temps, but I'll stick to my smoker for barbequing anyway.
For backyard grilling, early results are excellent.
As for quality, the SS is a little thin - and doesn't really compare to the industry leader in build quality. But then again it's less than half the price. Among grills in the same class, this one gets much hotter and having no flareups is a big bonus.
Overall, it's an excellent grill and an excellent value.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I waited forever for the "Red" to go on sale, but decided I needed it now. It did take almost 4 hours to put it together, so don't think you are going to buy this in the box and come home and cook on it the same day. The quality is pretty good, and some screws are hard to line up, but overall, it seems to be a nice unit. I did purchase mine so I could convert it to natural gas. The kit for $50 does contain a nice hose with quick couplers and covers, but other than that, you do not need the orifices to convert this to natural gas. The main valves are already set up for NG, so all your do is remove the LP orifices and you are ready to go. If you have access to the hose and quick couplers, you might pick them up for $40, compared to the $50 for the kit, but if not, simply buy the kit, follow the instructions with the BBQer and get it done. For my first grilling experience, I preheated to about 450 degrees, seared the steak on both sides for about a minute, then reduced to the "grill" setting (about 275)and about 15 minutes later, enjoyed a very juicy, evenly cooked steak. I don't think you could get a flare up on this grill if you wanted to, it is totally infrared, i.e. the flame cannot be seen. It also held its own in a pretty good wind. My only concern is that if a burner did blow out, you wouldn't see it, I guess you will hear it if it does and re-lights!
Yes, I recommend this product.

Sought out this particular grill after reading about its quality/value from Consumers Reports. Used Home Depot's online purchasing to find this fast, and near by my home, at a reasonable price.

After buying cheaper made not cheaper priced grills for years I finally found the mother of all gas grills. I love everything about this grill from the temperature controls to the infrared cooking system. We've used the grill at least twice a month every month since we bought it and the cooking grates, the infrared cooking pan that sits over the burners always cleans up easily by just turning up the flame to clean. I learned by using the grill how to heat the cooking area after cooking on it to clean it then hitting the grates with a wire brush. The infrared pan gets so hot it burns off all the nasty stuff and all that is left is ashes in the infrared pan. To use the grill I learned to heat the grates first by maxing out the temperature controls until the thermometer maxes out then turn the temerature control way down right before putting on the burgers or steaks. It takes just a little getting used to cooking using the infrared but once you get used to it you'll never go back to the flaming up, rusting out old style grills. As much as we have used the grill this past year I figured the infrared pan would burn itself out but it has held up beyond what I'm used to. By now with previous gas grills I would be looking at replacing the burner covers at least. This is a great grill and Consumer Reports most recent report had this grill as a best value.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I just got this grill and overall I really do like it. I had it assembled for free by Home Depot (which was awesome) so I can't speak to that part of it. It cooks meat perfectly...and I am NOT an experienced griller. I have cooked different types of fish, steak, chicken and pork all with excellent results. It roasts veggies so that they are cooked nicely on the outside and juicy and crisp on the inside. I also love the ease of using wood chips for extra flavoring. Here are the few things that aren't as positive. On the second time that I used it, I pushed the ignitor button and the plastic part broke. Home Depot replaced it for free and it was easy enough to put on. Also, it boasts that when you put the grill on its cleaning mode for 15 minutes, then the debrit on the grates turns to ash and it wipes off easily...this is not true. It isn't any easier to clean than any grill. I did the seasoning process as directed and this can be a little bit of a pain but ultimately glad that the fire doesn't come in to contact with my food and char the food. Overall, it is a really great way to grill if you want your food cooked perfectly without a bunch of char on the outside of your food.
Yes, I recommend this product.

i bought this a year ago and it worked great. only problem in the beginning was that it didnt provide enough screws so some parts i had to substitute for other screws. gas doesn't run out too often but after a year the metal starts to get run down. i use it probably once a month and it shouldnt wear down at this speed. my uncle has a weber genesis and i would have rather paid the extra two to three hundred dollars for that one. The grill is hard to clean especially since it has that "new technology" with the infrared cooking and all the oil and sauce is dripped onto that infrared cooking pan.

I wasn't sure if I should get this BBQ or not, the reviews varied so widely, didn't really know what to believe. I'm really glad that I decided to get it though.
Sears meat really nicely, perfect grill marks and a great flavor. Cooks very evenly, and also very fast, if you choose. All the grills I've used before, I only used the very bottom temp range, anything over a 1/4 turn would just burn meat to a crisp.
This BBQ has a full and useful range of heat from very low and slow cook to sear. Steaks/chops are super easy and fast, depending on thickness, just sear a couple min on each side, then put them over to the side where I've set the temp lower and finish off. A few have said the grill is hard to clean. They can't be talking about this grill. I bought it 3 weeks ago, and have used it probably 15 nights since I got it. It still doesn't need cleaning! (except for a wire brush across the grates) There's just some grey dust in the tray below the grates. And if it does get any buildup, just remove grates, lift the tray out and wire brush off, really easy to clean, and no buildup of baked on crud around the burners, cause no oil/grease/meat gets on or near them.
One note, where they could have done much better. On the 3 burner model, the span on the tray that the grates rest on is too wide without support. The weight of the grates and meat is too much, the tray will sag in the middle. It was an easy fix, I just drilled two holes and put some stainless steel washers in to keep it from sagging. Kind of hard to explain, but when you look one over at the store you will probably see what I mean. Not an issue with 2 or 4 burner models.(trays not as wide)
Yes, I recommend this product.

I really enjoy cooking with this grill. It heats up fairly fast and cooks everything I've put on it well.
To keep the grill hot though, for searing, you need to keep the top closed while doing so. If you leave the top open the grill quickly drops to a temperature that does not allow you to sear as well as I would like.
The upper grill rack coating had flaked off after several uses. Not a big deal as it brushed off easily and I coat the grill before each use.
You also have to keep the main grill coated well to prevent sticking. They are some what difficult to clean also because of their design.
The stainless steel is a little tedious to clean and in doing so some of the lettering and marking on the control knobs have started to fade.
All in all I find this grill to be much better than any gas grill I've had before. No flare ups is a major plus!
Yes, I recommend this product.

We were so excited about this grill - until we'd had it a couple of months and it started to fall apart! It has been well covered from day one, yet the lettering/markings around the knobs started to disappear after just a few uses which means we had to guess at the cooking settings. Shortly after that, the knobs quit working properly and very soon after that it quit heating and we were LUCKY to get it up to 400 degrees regardless of how long we let it burn. These grills are not cheap and it's ridiculous to pay several hundered dollars for a product that lasts less than a year!!! I've had cheap grills that lasted 10 times what this piece of junk did. And forget customer service because Charbroil has NONE. I only gave it one star because you can't give it what it deserves - a ZERO!
No, I do not recommend this product.

Despite the some of the lettering peeling off after two years, I thankfully am smart enough to remember the difference between high and low, so I'm not going to knock it for that.
I do wish they had been done better, but I'm not going to cry about it, or let it overshadow this grill is the best cooking experience I've had in 20 years. The steaks are better than anything I get from the fancy restaurants around town, and the high temps make any dish possible.
Mostly, I love, love, love the "cooking bowl" protects all the burners from any food gunk which may fall.
Two years and going strong...and already enjoying the third.
Yes, I recommend this product.
