22.5 in. x 47 in. x 8 ft. 11 in. Insulated Wood Attic Ladder 300 lb. Load Capacity (Type IA Duty Rating)

Elegant, high quality, (ANSI approved) LWS-P ladder is made from quality pinewood assembled in three sections and nicely finished with attention to detail. LWS-P is equipped with locking mechanism that is installed inside insulated and sealed door panel. Length of ladder may be adjusted within 1.3 in. after cutting the side rails to set ladder evenly on floor or if adjustment is needed following floor renovation. Construction of ladder provides more steps (tread rise about 10 in.) to improve safety and comfort. Red, metal handrail may be installed on either side of the ladder to increase safety and comfort. Brackets allow increasing space between ladder and attic door for comfort and safety. Springs are located on door surface to make entry to attic wider and more comfortable (the widest entrance on market - compare to other products). Door is well balanced - it opens and closes easily (NO sudden movements). Ladder fits in R.O. 22.5 in. x 47 in. and ceiling heights 7 ft. 2 in. to 8 ft.11 in.

This attic ladder is a great product. It is really put together well. The door seals good and it is much warmer in our master bedroom closet.

Once installed it seems to work well, but the instructions (all illustrations - no written instructions) require intense scrutiny to understand and are easy to misinterpret.
If I knew then what I know now I'd buy the product again.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This is a sturdy ladder. I'm 210 pounds and this feels like a solid set of stairs when I go up and down. My father and I installed fairly easily in less than two hours. Instructions a little cryptic, but my father had some experience installing these.

Had product shipped to the house, instructions a little vague - lots of pictures. Easy to install, need to have two people to get the ladder secured/leveled with ceiling.

Great attic ladder. Solid and well made. It was shipped to my house and it arrived undamaged.
The old ladder had to be removed to get a new heater into the attic. The directions that came with this ladder were lame, but I easily found better directions online, and the installation was easy. When the heating contractor came back after I reinstalled this ladder he said this was the best attic ladder he had seen.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I ordered these stairs based only on the specs and excellent online reviews. The stairs turned out to be just what I was looking for. I expecially like the insulated wood and air tight seal when closed, the adjustment brackets that can provide toe room on the upper steps and that allow fine tuning of the length adjustment, and the down bracket hinge design that locks the ladder solid when in the down position. I can't think of any way to improve on the stair design.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This ladder worked out very well for me -- you will need help but quite easy to install . I printed instructions from the Home Depot web site --- read them and follow them-- The 1by4 support idea works well . I will add that this was new construction with 2 ft centers already. That helps.. I would like another one for my other project when I get to it.
Yes, I recommend this product.

This is the second attic ladder I have from HD. The first is a Century SAT-89 aluminum ladder, about $10 cheaper, but with the optional Energy Efficiency Bundle (FTSWB) with fire-retardant door I bought, the Century is about $70 more. Both have their plus and minus features, and you can read my review of the Century ladder here on HD.
For the Fakro, the pros are (1) great seal on the door, when it's closed, you can feel and hear it seal. The closet where it is installed is far warmer than with the leaky attic hatch it replaced, so the insulation seems to be working. (2) the ladder rungs are positioned away from the surface of the door panel, so you get a really good footing with the ball of your feet on the rungs (3) this ladder has a shorter opening (47 vs. 54 inches) so it fits in my closet better. (4) it has over an inch of adjustability, so you don't have to cut the length exactly right, you can get close and then adjust it. (5) they sell the plastic feet for the ladder, which is nice if you open the ladder onto carpet or other surface you want to protect, plus it allows you to cut the legs off at a 90-degree angle, instead of trying to match the angle of the floor.
The cons are (1) requires a pole to open and close the door. The spring only gets the door up partway, then you have to use the pole to push the door up and turn the locking latch. That makes a good seal and makes the door inconspicuous (no rope or handle), but it's not as convenient as a standard pull-down rope, and you have to store the pole somewhere. (2) the wood stairs don't seem quite as sturdy as the aluminum ones on the Century. It's still a sturdy ladder, I'm kind of nit-picking here. (3) the shortness of the opening (47-inch) means the ladder is a bit steeper and the stairs are slightly more difficult to unfold, since you have to unfold one part then the other, instead of unfolding both at once. I'm sure the longer-opening ladders (54-inch) are better on these issues, but if you have a tight space, it's nice to have the shorter option.
As I noted in my other review, if you have room for (or can modify your joists to fit) a 25 or 30-inch wide ladder, buy one. These 22.5-inch ladders fit easily between 24-inch joists, but their narrow-ness makes them more difficult to get things up the stairs.
This is a good ladder, buy with confidence.
Yes, I recommend this product.

These stairs by Fakro are excellent.
Nicely designed and manufactured with a heavy, insulated, and sealed door. Won't know for sure how effective until January here in the Midwest.
The unit overall is well made with dovetails on the treads/steps, nice heavy pine.
The instructions are pretty good, little confusing because it spans multiple models of stairs, with little text.
Overall, I would highly recommend.

The ladder is made very well compared to others I looked at. And at $219, is a real bargain. It is very sturdy to climb, even when carrying a load. The cryptic installation instructions (pictures only, no words) would have made this hard to install if I hadn't had previous experience installing attic ladders. The only problem that I encountered was the lack of adjustability to compensate for a ceiling that is not level. This required redrilling the mounting screw holes in the door. I would definitely buy this again.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Sturdy, solid attic stairs. Installation took less than 3 hours by experienced contractor. Good barrier from attic temperature fluctuations. I will buy the ladder end protectors available only on HomeDepot.com because when you cut off the ladder ends, there is some slight splintering.
