We have been struggling with the shreds of a foam cover for the attic stairway until there was no longer any use left to it. When we searched for a replacement the cost was ridiculous. Based on the good reviews this product got, we gave it a try,. Works wonderfully....extremely easy to install, just open it and place over the attic opening. I do agree that the manufacturer should have enclosed the insulation around the edges. Dont like handling that material! Other than that, you will be very pleased!

Prior to putting up the stai insulator the underside of the pull down steps was 56 degrees while the ceiling next to the hatch was 62 degrees. Took the insulator out of the box and set it up in less than 5 minutes. Result - the wooden hatch is now 62 degrees - same as the ceiling. The steps are in my wife's closet which used to be very cool. Now the closet is actually noticeably warmer. Can't believe how easy this was.

We have an attic trapdoor in our bedroom hallway that made the hallway chilly. DIY websites had patterns for building an insulation box but who has time? We were at HD looking for something else and stumbled on this pre-made insulating "tent" for around $40 and thought we'd try it. It seems to be helping the hallway chill, my husband has one less thing on his honey-do list and we spent less than $50.

As others note, you can make one of these for less money; having said that, it is really convenient. It looks like a silver triangular tent, about 1 inch thick, that has silver tape/covering over that layer of insulation, and easily covers a standard attic closet ladder opening. The silver covers everything except the bottom, where the insulation shows through. Would have been nicer to have a foam bottom covering.
Does keep cold air out . . . does the job

The product was easy enough to install; all you have to do is get it out of the box and maneuver it into place at the top fo the attic ladder. It's too soon for me to know whether there will be a difference in my heating bill, but I can feel the difference when I open the door. Whereas I used to feel the cold air immediately once the door was opened, I didn't feel the draft at all now with the stair insulator in place.

I purchased this cover yesterday and to be honest I was skeptacle. I placed it on top of unfaced R30 insulation in my attic and was amazed to see that it really works fine. It looks like a miniture pup tent after its unfolded. Very simple disign that filters out 95 % of the cold air dropping down from my attic. Price was not bad either. I would recomend this product. However I think it works best over insulation already in place in your attic around the drop down stairs. If you have a solid floor in the attic just place it on top of some precut small peices of insulation. Good luck. I like this product alot.!!!
Yes, I recommend this product.

So far I have had know problems. I wish the bottom had the fiberglass covered.
I had to frame out the top (attic side) to have a smooth surface for the tent to fit.
I have place a candle under the stairwell up and it does not show any draft.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Seals out the cold well, easy to fold up and move. Only 1 problem - The bottom edge is not sealed and the insulation is exposed. I sealed it with Duct tape.

I had a bad draft & noticable temperature difference in the area of the stair opening summer and winter and nothing else I tried worked to insulate or weatherstrip the opening; the springs move everything out of the way when you close the stairway. There are several things out there to fix this, most are pretty expensive and not so easy to put in. As others have said, this isnt airtight and isnt perfect, but at $37 its a very big improvement - with the tent in place, I dont feel the draft or temp. difference. It is a tent of foil wrapped insulation that you unfold over the opening, pull it down around the edges -- it is soft and fits over the opening and has enough overlap to cover the area well and clear the springs. Short story: worth $37 easy to put up, solves the problem quickly and easily. sometimes the simple solution works.
Yes, I recommend this product.

A home energy audit recommended an attic barrier (think about it - attic steps are located at ideal spot to allow your hot air to escape). This product is very easy to use and installed in 2 mins. Took longer to comprehend the instructions which made it seem more complicated than it is. Should be warning on box - "Don't unfold until you have in Attic". Other products offer a higher R rating but this is an improvement over nothing. I'm sure any former boy scout will find it easy to use.

Aside from getting fiberglass on me after unfolding the tent, it is very easy. Push up through the opening, unfold and place over the opening. Very easy to place and works around uneven areas.

i haven't had the opportunity to see the financial benefits as yet because i jsut bought it. but, i could tell immediatley that it was insulating my attic. since i don't store in my attic and only go up there to change my filter, i chose this product versus the more expensive attic tents.
