I purchased these stairs because their width to length ratio was the best I could find for my application and price range. They are very well built and were easy enough to install. The door is well insulated and once installed it has a tight seal. The metal stairs were much easier to cut than I expected. I used a reciprocating saw with a blade rated for metal.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Very well made product and easy to install. It is nice that it has a lock that you operate via a steel rod, but I would also have liked to have a cord with which to pull the ladder down, without having to go to a coloset to obtain the steel rod to pull down the ladder. Also, I had to go to another supplier to purchase a handrail to fit on the right side of the upper part of the ladder. This should be an integral component of the ladder. The rail was about $12.00, so why not include it as a part of the ladder??? All in all-good product!!!!!

We are very impressed with this ladder; it's extremely solid and unfolds/folds up very nicely. It was also one of the few ladders that fit into our space, that held up to 350 lbs. I figured that my 200 lb husband wouldn't be safe on a 250 lbs ladder if he was carrying anything heavy.
And it was very cost-competitive with other lesser-quality ladders.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Well built ladder that is very solid. Door is thick and is not flimsy at all. The metal ladder is not going to break under heavy load. The opening is large and will allow items to fit that won't fit with smaller ladders.
I deducted a star for quality because mine had a crack along the one end that I had to repair myself, but it wasn't that big of a deal.
a few things to note when cutting the legs to the proper height. first make sure the ladder is fully pulled as far away from the door as possible (the bolts are loose by default). this creates slightly more room for your feet. then, move the up/down adjuster so the ladder is as far up as possible. this will allow flexibility later in case you have to elongate the ladder later on. you can always cut off more, but you can't add on. also take note how the plastic feet are made. unlike wood ladders, you cut this one straight across because the feet are angled to compensate for that. just make sure to measure everything correctly (measure 2, 3, 4, etc times before cutting).
Yes, I recommend this product.

I'll start by saying I had some prep work to do before I was able to install the ladder, so I don't count that against the "easy to install" claim. Once I had the correct opening size to accept the ladder, I followed the instructions (which are all pictures, no writing) and installed it by myself in about 3 hours. Most of that time was fine tuning with shims to get the frame square in the opening.
The stairs are very solid and built well. Very easy to open and close and I love how tightly it seals - no more air leakage!
My only gripe would be the plastic ends on the legs. After I trimmed the ladder to length and re-attached them, one of them split on first use of the ladder, and the second one did the same after about 5 more uses. So now I have to make sure they're on each time I open the ladder. Its only a matter of time before they get lost, so I'm not sure how I'll solve that little problem.
A personal note: I do wish I had spent the extra $$ to get the wider stairs/opening - 25" is pretty good, but I really feel the 30" would have been much better just from a usage standpoint.
Regardless I'm very happy with my purchase, and so is the rest of the family!
Yes, I recommend this product.

I did extensive research on attic ladders before I bought this model. It is well made, installed easily, and looks good. I bought one for the garage and another for the interior hallway. Way better than the Century or Werner.

I bought this ladder after seeing the details of the construction on another website. The 350 lbs load was important for me. Also, I found that this Fakro ladder had a 1 1/2" thick insulated wooden door that would reduce energy costs. Another big plus!
The quality of the ladder and the stability really made me feel that I got a good ladder that will last years. The only thing I would change if I could would be the size of the steps. It would be nice if they were about two inches wider, but this appeared to be the standard on all of the ladders that I looked at.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I had to special order this ladder off the Home Depot website because the in store models were too big for the space I was trying to install the unit, which was also in a tricky spot in our house, above the basement stairs. There was a previous opening there for access to the attic, but the swing clearance was only 60-66 inches with a door there. When I looked up this model, it had everything we needed. Solid metal ladder, smaller in length that allowed a smaller swing clearance, and I like the fact that you have to put in a tool to open it. It comes with a rod that you insert in the door, twist and open. Good for anyone that has young children or teenagers that like to be explorers, with most traditional attic ladders that just have a pull down knob that allows easy access. Product was installed in a few hours by a couple of novices, considering the tough spot of an installation. Shipping was quick, with product arriving only 3 days after purchasing online. Very happy with the product and anyone who buys it will be too!
Yes, I recommend this product.

A good sturdy ladder. Easy to install and provided the perfect solution for my 9' high ceiling. We installed our furnace/AC unit in the attic of our new house and it was taken into the attic via the new attic ladder. The ladder handled the weight and size of the furnace and the two guys installing it with no problem. An excellent choice!
