Our local HD actually carried both this version and the newer version. The newer version is in yellow and has a straight handle, but is exactly the same from the handle down. I just figures the newer one might be easier to center, but it probably is a marginal difference.
I tried a few other types, including "grandpas" and this one is by far the best on the market. Tip: use when you ground is wet or damp.
Yes, it will take up a bunch of dirt and create a small hole too, but it also grabs anything extremely well. It's a 3 STEP process, find the center of the weed, put without turning over the center of weed, next lift and twist. That's it you're done. No bending. Also, pick up one of those HD Orange Buckets to quickly throw all the weeds in, then dispose of them carefully.

This product is for the many of us who are a little lazy, but still want to get ride of crabgrass. This product is so easy to use. Just find the center, push down, twist, and pop it into a bucket. It never gets jammed with dirt and you don't even have to touch the ground at all. Best $25 dollars I've ever spent!
