We visited two Home Depot stores to find this product. We needed the "puller" ($15) because the old one was stuck in there pretty good. We couldn't find the shutoff valve for the shower, so had to shut down the entire house before we ran to the store to purchase. Moen has two major mixer valves, the 1225 and the 1222. We had the 1222, but make sure you know which one you have before you go to the store or order. I forgot to pay attention to the order I took items apart, so make sure to watch the utube videos online. It is a pretty expensive part, but once I figured out how to take it apart it was easy to install. The only difficult part was removing the old one. I've heard these things need to be replaced if they aren't used very often. The instructions with the package were pretty good with pictures, but I still preferred the online videos. Good luck! I had a good time and now have a working shower!
Pros: Reliable, Easy to Install, Good Instructions, No Leaks
Yes, I recommend this product.

Shower was leaking. Went to local Home Depot and bought 3rd party replacement cartridge. Did not fix leak. After reading reviews on the other brand replacement cartridge I was not the only one having same issue. I did return part and had to dive to another Home Depot to get get a moen oem cartridge. Leak stop. So if you have moen buy moen. Don't buy off brand to save a few dollars.

The posi temp valve can be costly to keep in operation if not consistantly used.

The cartridge is easy to install, the problem lies in removing the old one, even with a puller it can be difficult. The Moen 1222 cartridge works fine as long as it does not sit unused, if not used for a couple of months it can get stuck and not supply hot water.

Before changing the cartridge, strongly suggest watching u-tube videos that show how to remove the old cartridge. Also, highly recommend buying the $15 Moen cartridge removal tool and watch the applicable u-tube video. The directions on the back of the package aren't very good. After this, actually removing and installing the cartridge was very, very easy and everything works great. Home Depot price was also good - Ferguson Plumbing charged about $58 with tax - however, they did have more advice to relate. If you aren't sure you have a Moen faucet, look inside the handle. The single lever Moen faucet that doesn't require pulling initially to turn it on - takes the 1222 cartridge - but you'll easily see once you remove the old one.

it was a fine replacement cartridge, but expensive. also, the old cartridge does not come out easily, so be ready for a struggle.
i would recommend buying a delta faucet instead of moen. leak fixing in the delta--$2.00 spring and washer. leak fixing in the moen--$35.00 cartridge. kind of a pain.
Pros: fixed the leak
Cons: Difficult to Install
Yes, I recommend this product.

Was so simple to install, even I, a 52 year old housewife installed it in less than 10 minutes. The only difficulty i had was removing the old cartridge. My 19 yr. old daughter removed it for me. Excellent customer service, the sales lady gave me great installation advice and gave me confidence to do it myself, it sure beats paying a plumber again. The Master plumber installed the last one, which did not last very long, the knob was very hard to turn, I don't think he used any lubrication as directed. Love it!

We had two new MOEN faucet systems using these specific type valves put in our master bath, when doing a total remodel. One kept dripping in the tub - and the other would spit/drip ever so slightly behind the wall in the separate shower unit. Were very cautious/careful when installing - in my opinion, there is something way too finicky about these. Shouldn't have these type issues. A more simplistic model that just plain "works" and doesn't have to have so many websites/comments posted about it, would be much better. I know the company will send out a replacement which is appreciated, but I am just dreading when one starts dripping again, which I know is going to happen.

This is mainly directed at Anon in East Stroud PA. I have drained the water in the mountains in Colorado for several years to go south for six months and learned some hard lessons. We get very hard freezes in Colorado. I have to remove the positemp cartridge every year to get the water completely out - after having one destroyed by freezing. I came to this site because I removed a Moen cartridge at my son's home in Virginia because the hot water flow started to slow down & I thought it might be clogged with debris from old pipes. I didn't find any debris. The Moen cartridge seems to be more difficult than it should be. Be sure to replace in the proper orientation and watch that the two rubber gaskets on the sides stay on as the cartridge enters the body. Moen says their replacement cartridge is prelubed. For future removal/replacement silicone grease lube has been recommended. The old Moen cartridge is a tight fit & I re-installed it without any new lube by pushing on the brass rod. The rod/interior pushed out the back of the cartridge and kept it from seating. I had to pull the cartridge back out and pull the rod back into the body to get it installed. Not sure if it was damaged doing this. I'll be trying a replacement cartridge as soon as I get one. I recommend pushing on the plastic body of the cartridge instead of on the brass rod to install the cartridge. The next time I will lube the cartridge if it is not already pre-lubed. The Moen seems touchy & a replacement is pretty pricey if you don't want to wait for Moen to send one. All reports are that Moen is good about sending free replacement cartridges. Youtube has several good videos.
Yes, I recommend this product.

I had to purchase the tool to remove this item. Other than that, everything went well. Since I have 2 other showers in the house with the same cartridge, the tool will come in handy.
The product worked and the family was pleased. (I wasn't getting any hot water from the shower)
Good, well made product. I went with OEM for quality and warranty on item.

I bought this cartridge as a replacement for a Moen shower faucet. The design is slight different from the older model (96909) in that the inner o-ring is absent. Apparently it's not needed since it's a dead end for the water. It works perfectly in the faucet. The only difference is that the knob is at a different position for the same water temperature. At $39 it's not exactly cheap. A cartridge puller tool ($16) is also needed to pull the old cartridge out of the faucet.

I have installed the shower body from MEON L82691 , that comes with a shower cartridge model 1222. Mind you I have this house up in the country in Pa. Were is very cold and Cool. For some strange reason this is the second time I have changed this cartridge within the same model unit. Is it something within the unit that pushes out the entrenal stem to leak water on its own. For some reason or another every winter i Drain the water out of the entire house for the winter months. Now that the winter is almost gone its time to reinstate the normal fuction of this home. with running water and doing preventive maintance thru out the house. Like changeing out water filters bleeding out the air out the water lines. filling up the tiolets to there proper water levels. But when it comes to my upstairs shower I always have a problem with water leaks. A if the enternal stem of the shower breaks or pushs outward to make the setting off centered. And water comes out the shower head no matter how hard I try to remedy the problem it always happens. Is there something I have to do first for winter storage. That i.m not aware of. Because this cause's abig problem when I re-fill the house with water. It prevents me from building the water presure within the house . So I have to drain the whole house all over again. And drive to home depot all over again in search of this part. What can I do to aviod this issue again. mind you I have a large house and this is the only problem I'm having thru out the entire house. Should I replace the whole unit to another type of shower control to remediie this issue. Because frankly this is becoming a pain in the rear end lately. Year April 2011.
