Love this system. I installed one unit on each side of my closet which is only 59 1/2 inches wide and was afraid I wouldn't have enough room to walk in between them well enough with the clothes hanging up, but it actually works out. I did screw the 48" side panels to the end walls for extra support. The finish is good on the units and easy to install if you have any handy gal skills at all. Do inspect your boxes before leaving the store if you plan on going home and installing them right away and have a long drive back to the store. One unit was perfectly fine, and the other had a 48" vertical panel missing, cleat missing, and one of the 14" x 24" shelves had been ripped down to 12"x 24", as well as the supports were 4 of the 32" supports instead of 2 of the 48" supports. I called the toll free number on the instruction sheet and was shipped out replacement parts so I did not have to return to the store one way trip over an hour away. I did purchase extra 24" shelves and some 35" shelves as well. I love the desgin being up off the floor.....awesome!!!!!

I chose this product because it is completely wall supported and does not touch the floor. It took 2 people about 4 hours to assemble in our 8' x 9' closet. The system is very sturdy and the hardware that comes with it is high quality. The shelves are particle board, but they look high end.

My handy man just completed installing the starter kit. It was easy and I actually could have done it myself. We selected Expresso and it looks very rich. We have decided to use this system for the other closets in our home.
As per the tip from a previous reviewer, I purchased extra shelving so that we could cover the top of this system. If you look closely to the picture you will notice that there is not a top shelf, so you might like to add the additional shelving.
This system is very flexible in that the side vertical panels can stand alone or brace against side walls. I my case, one of the vertical panels was braced against the right wall and the left panel was a stand alone because I had another shelving unit on that side.
The handyman nailed the bottom shelf to add additional support to the middle section. Feel free to improvise.

I was very impressed with the online design tool for this product. The product is well made and fits together well. The drawers (sold separately) have slides that allow the drawer to come all the way out and they roll extremely well. I highly recommend this product.

Bought two deluxe starter kits, extra panels and shelves to replace an older kit in our master closet. With a little trimming I was able to create a custom look with this product. We also replaced the carpeting with a laminate. We chose this unit because it sits off the floor and opens up the perceived space in the closet. In addition to the starter set we also purchased two six inch drawers and some wire baskets that were being discontinued. All these products were of a high quality and a joy to assemble. We felt we added value to our home with minimal cost and effort.

I am an interior designer and have used almost all of the Martha Stewart closet pieces more than a few times. If you're creative and take the time to do a layout ahead of time you can make a walk-in closet look like and feel like you spent $10,000. when you really spent $1,500.

I installed 2 of these units on either side of our walk-in closet. The instructions are easy to follow, and the installation itself is pretty straight forward too. However, if you just buy the starter kit itself, I found that the short end pieces on either side are not really stable. You need to buy a bunch of packs of shelves to screw into the tops and middle to stabilize the whole unit, or get some brackets to attach the short ends to the wall. That being said, I still ended up paying way less than any custom closet place, and the closet is AWESOME!

There was damage to the wood.
I am not sure if it was due to the product or the damage was caused by the delivery service. There were indentations on the wood. Due to the fact that I wanted to complete my project I used the merchandise as it arrived.

I purchased an entire master closet full of this stuff, and paid a friend to install it. I watched him do most of it, and it looked pretty easy. This product is just a laminate on top of particle board, but it's pretty sturdy. We purchased it in the 'espresso' color, which is a dark brown. We were most impressed by how professional it looked with the corner shelves and drawers; those dressed it up the most. You can buy the D1 or D2 kits as your base, and then add on pieces as needed. Just draw out your dimenions on paper, and make a list. I found a coupon online that saved a bunch, plus it had free shipping. Beats driving to the store and hauling it all home. Some tips:
1.) we hung ours 8 inches off the floor (everything hangs on a metal horizontal bracket that you mount first, which is why the rest is pretty easy). That still allowed my wife to reach the top hanging rods, and also left us room on the floor to sweep and/or put shoes.
2.) In the picture, the D1 and D2 kits appear to have a top shelf. They DO NOT. The top piece you see is the closet rod, and the 2nd horizontal item is the mounting bracket. We knew this, so I ordered extra shelving in either 24 or 36 inches, and my friend installed a top shelf all around the top of the closet; gives you LOTS more storage for bins on top, etc. Also note: in the D1 and D2 kits, the middle section has vertical pieces that are full-height, but the sides do not. If you plan to buy several kits or place some side by side, you may need to purchase adt'l 48 inch vertical pieces if your adjacent section will have shelves or drawers in the lower half. That's what we did and it worked fine.
3.) The drawers fit in the 24 inch width areas (and 2 depths of drawers are available. Get the 8 inch. The smaller ones won't hold much). The hanging rods can go all the way to about 35 inches, at which they rate the load at a max of 35 lbs. I just started hanging clothes, and it appears it will handle at least that much. You can beef up the mounting if you need to, for the rods.
4.) The price seems really cheap, until you actually total the complete list for a decent size closet. However, it is STILL much cheaper than having a professional company install it, even when paying a friend to install it. Do it yourself and save even more.
5.) I had some vertical sections that I wanted, that had drawers side-by-side (3 drawers in a 24 inch section right beside another section of 3 drawers). I had to have each section have its OWN vertical side piece in order to make the drawers be at the exact same height, side-by-side. If you only use one piece of vertical wood as the middle piece, because of the holes required to mount drawers, they would have been one hole higher or lower for the adjacent section (you can't use the same hole in just one piece of wood to mount the same thing, at the same height, on both sides of the board). Just a note; if you want a professional installed look, make sure to have enough vertical pieces (which have holes for the pegs or mounting screws up the entire length).
6.) Overall, I'm very impressed. We did a lot of research, at several stores and calling custom closet companies. I knew my friend was very capable of installing them, and it is saving me a lot of time. The product is as-described, is a good value for the money, and in this color, really looks impressive. I would recommend it and will probably buy more for the kids' closets. Again, to make it really look nice, add some corner shelves (which have a rounded edge at the inside corner; look at a picture) or at least some drawers. The drawer fronts are really good looking and come with nice metal pulls in a sort of pewter look. Regarding the whole thing: My wife said 'it's awesome', which pretty much is the best endorsement I can provide.
Yes, I recommend this product.

We purchased a closet system for two closets and found the instructions very difficult to follow. In talking with friends, they also had this issue. We had two return two sets of shelving, one due to missing hardware, one due to glue all over a shelf. The set of drawers ordered for each closet had to be returned due to damaged product. We like the end result but hadn't expected it to take 3+ weeks because of returns. I

This is ideal for a 96 inch closet offering a lot more hanging space and an expensive look for not too much money.
It was easy to install and took me about 2 hours.
I thought it wouldn't work too well because the unit hangs on the support rail which is screwed into the wall studs, but it's not too bad. It's not as sturdy as I imagine a custom organizer would be, but for the price and the ease of installation, it's great!

I had a great experience building my closet on line. But, once all of the boxes arrived, we were pulling our hair out. There are NO directions on how to put all of your pieces together, only directions for each specific piece. My husband is very handy, so we were able to get it completed. But, be aware it's hard to get the complete system together. We had to keep looking at our picture on line to determine how to finish it.
Pros: Sturdy, Looks Great
Cons: No Instructions, Difficult to Install, the entire system is only supported by one rail, need a second support underneath
Yes, I recommend this product.

All in all it looks good but there are a few things to be aware of. The finish is very realistic and our kits were free of nicks, dings and scratches other than one we created ourselves. Things go together easily and I can see where many people did a reach-in closet in 4 hours or less. We redid a walk-in where our previous wire and plastic system completely collapsed and pulled away from the walls. Rather than patch the holes (over 120) we put a 5mm sheathing over the drywall, stained and varnished it. Were I to do it again I would assemble the units and use them to measure where to put the seams but that's another story. Putting the paneling behind it really gives it a professional, custom-install look. The system seems very stable and I think it will be very efficient.
The downside: If you want a level shelf all along the top of your unit you'll have some issues. You can screw the shelf into the 4' piece but on the middle 6' unit you have to use the shelf holders. The only issue is that the screws drop the shelf about 1/2 inch below the verticals while the shelf holders hold the shelf flush with the verticals. Not a great design.
The pieces that screw into the wall are also interesting. They are 48" so they should hold two 24" units, right? Wrong. The 24" measurement is a nominal interior dimension. So one 48" wall hanging piece will only hold one 24" unit and one approximately 22 1/8" unit which means that you need to cut the shelf if you're using it. By the way, I do recommend that you use a shelf in each section. Without it the piece is not particularly stable. The rods, being width-adjustable without an option to lock the width does nothing to give the outside pieces any stability.
The other recommendation I would make is in the hollow wall anchors. Go to your local The Home Depot's customer service department and purchase the unit and the accessories, then while they're doing the paperwork run, don't walk to the fasteners aisle and buy some real anchors. Two of the three in the first kit we installed failed to hold their screws. The only other thing I wish it had was an alternative to the dull grey hanging bars. A black or bronze would look a lot better particularly with the espresso.
If you're using the corner shelves definitely follow the instructions and don't cut those shelves less than 19" x19". Otherwise you won't have enough room to reach into those shelves. Personally I'd say don't go less than 22"
We haven't hung clothes yet as we're going to redo the baseboards and trim tomorrow but all in all it's a good system. Definitely not great, maybe barely good, probably more average and gives you challenges you probably shouldn't have to deal with.

I found this item is very nice when installed. Installation is OK except if you are putting it into a space less that 8 ft wide. When the space is less you need to hack saw the metal bracket and most of the hanging bars to fit. The instructions do outline this, but a lot of metal sawing is a bother especially if you do not have a power hack saw.
Cons: lot of metal sawing
Yes, I recommend this product.

I have had custom closets in my old house to the tune of $5-7000 each closet. Yes they were nice but after a few years even they were wearing and breaking. I moved, did not want to spend the extra money to get a professional closet system so I got wire shelves....big mistake. I have lots of clothes and even though they were in studs, the shelves still sagged and eventually broke. It never flowed right either, corners were difficult to move clothes on, hangers were caught on support brackets and joints always broke open. This is where Martha came in. Took some measurements, ordered online the stuff I needed and had my handyman install. Absolutely fabulous! I have even more room than before using the same space. I don't know how and I don't care. Its organised and best of all STURDY. I no longer worry about clothes being too heavy to hang. Looks fantastic, customized to my specific closet quirks. Simple cutting of shelves makes this such an easy customized closet system. The hanging bar system makes it easy to modify and they are securely attached into several studs. Not to mention the downward force of the vertical units displaces the weight more even. Spend a few minutes and measure. Map it out on paper. You wont be disapointed!
Pros: Durable, Easy to Assemble, Functional, Well Made, Excellent Quality, High Quality of Material, Great Instructions, Lots of Features, Sturdy, Looks Great, Looks High End, Good Size & Weight, Nice Design

We turned a small bedroom into a closet - we were starting from scratch. Didn't want to spend the $$ to have one designed and installed - so we bought this piece. It is designed to hang on the wall but since the unit itself was so heavy in the box that we could barely get it up the stairs, I chose to have it sit on the floor. Went up very easily and looks great!
