My 1986 Trane Split unit finally went down with a bad compressor and a leak so I bought this LG unit as a temporary fix till I get enough cash to buy a new HVAC system. This item had no reviews so I looked at the reviews for just the AC and it got good ratings. I installed the AC in my living room window next to the intake for the old Trane air handler which still circulates air. My house was close to 100 degrees inside from where the refigerator's compressor has been running non stop for about a week. This unit cooled the living room down within an hour to 70 degrees. Within 3 hours it cooled half of the upstairs with the air handler off. I turned the air handler on and this morning, the entire house was at 70 degrees. The unit had cycled off sometime during the night and just turned back on this morning. I will write another review on the heat part of it in the fall. This unit uses a NEMA 6-20p plug 230/208 v so make sure you have an outlet. I just had the 220 line from my heating auxilary unit moved to an outlet below the AC and it worked perfectly. 5 year warrantly parts and labor was the deal maker for me. this unit does only have two fan speeds though. Not a big deal for me but some people like more options. The construction of the unit seems to be very durable. The unit weighs 120 plus pounds and would not fit in my sedan even out of the box. I chose this unit over the 23500 BTU unit because it was more energy efficient and 100 dollars cheaper. The face plate doesn't go on completely but that is common with LG AC units. The face plate does stay on and looks alright and I didn't try to force it because it just makes it easier to get off for biweekly filter cleaning.

Could you maybe suggest to the manufacturer that a "low" setting would be appreciated? I've got one of these mounted in the wall about 5' from my bed. It has 2 speeds. High, and hurricane. It's LOUD!. I had a Kenmore there until it gave out after 14 years of faithful, relatively quiet, service, and I couldn't get another when it died in he hottest part of last summer. Needless to say this one is taking some getting used to. Also, when you set it on energy saver, the fan cuts on every 3 minutes to check the temperature. Can you get more annoying?
I do really like the remote and being able to set the temperature instead of just hi or low heat or cool.

LG Air Conditioner with Heat

I ordered this AC with heat online. It is 18,000 BTU, and it has heat because of the cold weather we had last winter. I checked the assembled height and width in order to make sure it fit the wall opening. When the unit arrived, these measurements were true. I wanted to check the AMP and plug configuration, but I had to go to a Home Depot store because this info was not given online. I ordered online because the delivery was free. If you need an AC in a hurry, order from the store. The delivery took 9 business days, but 11 days total. The AC unit is very handsome-looking and works very well. It has some additional features not mentioned online, like a remote, an energy saver mode, and auto swing. I am completely pleased with it.

Nice A/C

Thid A/C is quiet for a large unit. It produced two gallons of water on each of two days of 100 deg temperature in Lake County, Calif. The auto-sweep is nice, swinging the cold air from left to right and back every few seconds. Being most LG A/C's with resistance heating have the controls and the display on the front, near the bottom, these are awkward to read if the unit is mounted low. I was pleased that these LG A/C's lend themselves to in-the-wall installation (i.e., an alternative to installing in a window opening), and that the cabinet is readily removable with only four screws, which makes fitting an emply cabinet into the wall opening much easier than hefting the 120 pound complete unit for trial and error fitting in the wall. LG A/C's without Heat have controls and the display on the front, near the top, making them more suitable to reading if the unit is mounted low on a wall.

Installation

I bought this unit as a replacement for a Maytag that finally gave up the ghost. The Maytag was a 5-star unit. Installation options on this LG are limited to homes with a wood exterior because the exterior support brackets require drilling and screwing the brackets into the exterior wall. I live in a brick home. I bought two Air Conditioning Support Brackets from Home Depot, Model # AC-160, and put one under either side of the casing. No exterior drilling into the brick was required. It was a good choice although with tax they were $45.00 each.
The installation instructions appear to be translated from some other non-English language and together with what drawings were provided leave a lot to be desired. Hardware is referred to as "Screw A-1" or Screw A-2" instead of length and type which adds to the difficulty, but segregating hardware was ultimately accomplished.
I just finished installation, the low tonight is 15 F, and the heat mode is ok but not phenomenal. At its present rate it will warm the room up from 61 F to 72 F in about 2-3 hrs, but that isn't fast compared to other units of this size.
On the more plus side, the unit is very quiet and interally it appears solidly built. LG has a good reputation and the warranty specifies "in-home service" for five years which I hope I'll never need. At 125 lbs it is definitely a 2-man job lifting it into position. All total, with tax, brackets, and $50 paid to my daughter's boyfriend to help with installation, this $599 unit cost $789.00.
If I get any surprises down the road, I will post them here as a follow-up.
