Our dining room has made the transition from the 1970's into the Great Gatsby! We installed white 4x2 Shako panels and LOVE the results! We wouldn't change anything if we were to do it all over again. A couple of tips that I would offer to someone who is about to do the project.
1. Order more materials than you need just to make sure you have enough. Home Depot will allow you to return (within a certain amount of time) the unused materials to the local store. I bought 2 bags of nails, but only needed one as well as extra panels.
2. 1 bag of nails (1 lb) easily covered the cornice and ceiling for my 16x8 room.
3. White caulk for the cornice will make it look seamless!
4. I did not use furring strips as I was installing over a tongue-n-groove ceiling. We predrilled holes in order to nail into the wood as the nails were bending without pre drilling.

I don't consider myself particularly "handy", but this project was easy and the results are amazing. The hardest part is getting the first panel set in place. Once you get going, they get much easier!
