Romex Splice & Tap Kit 2 Wire, 1/Clam

Tyco Electronic's Non-metallic splice and tap kits provide a fast and reliable method for splicing or tapping 2 wire w/ ground and splicing 3 wire w/ground non-metallic cables up to 300 volts. They are designed and approved for use in rework within existing structures. Splice and Tap Kits also eliminate wire nuts for installation and replace the conventional method for adding a splice or tap for non-metallic cable without the need for exposed and unsightly junction boxes. NEC approved Article 334-40b.

Great Product for Tight Wires

This is the best way I can find that that can legally tap into a dry 15 amp circuit where there is almost no wire slack and without one or more junction boxes and their exposed covers. There are two sets of instruction inclosed, one for a plain splice, the other for a tap: be sure to use the right one. Follow the instructions exactly or your junction will be illegal. The instructions seem clear enough for me ( a DIY guy) but I have some wiring experience and have passed code inspections. The one star review must be an old school inspector; these are code compliant when used as specified. I encountered these by accident but would not hesitate to use them again, though no more than one per breaker, and maybe no more than two per panel even if permitted by code.
Pros: Easy to Use, Compact, Nice Design

Innovative product

Excellent option for splicing a poorly located run when one is limited by wire length. This connector requires almost no additional cable length to install when moving a wire out of the way in a remodel project.
The metal cable holders seem a little funky to use, but I used them as directed because they are part of what is required to maintain the NEMA rating. The connection stayed reliable as it checked it at install, and one year later. No difference in ohm drop than same length of 12 AWG connected with std wire nut.
Pros: Easy Installation
Cons: needs more clearly written instruction for layman

Directions weren't the best, but I was able to figure it out. Works as described - very handy item! I'll use these again for future tap/splice applications. * You'll understand this when you go to use one, but I didn't use the metal ends (weaving the nm wire through). Instead, using common nails, I just used the existing holes on the device to attach it to my floor joist and I attached the wire to the joist using regular "U" wire staples.

No, I do not recommend this product.
After installing this connector in the circuit I found it to be unreliable as a splicing method. Stick with the tried and true Jbox and wire connectors for any splices. Yes, it will be a pain but it will be the most effective and long lasting.
