Customer reviews for 1-Gal. Semigloss Oil/Alkyd Interior/Exterior Paint

1-Gal. Semigloss Oil/Alkyd Interior/Exterior Paint

The Ultra Hide 1-Gal. Semi-Gloss Oil/Alkyd Interior/Exterior Paint is formulated to allow easy application with a brush or roller. The semigloss finish makes for an easy-to-clean surface. The oil-based formula retains the color and shine well. The paint requires a primed surface.

I purchased Glidden 3537 oil/alkyd paint that is actually some kind of hybrid that cleans up with water instead of needing paint thinner. In California oil based anything is getting so difficult to get because of our over regulated VOC's laws, This paint is marketed to perform like oil based paint that dries to that hard shell finish that you would need on anything that moves or closes like cabinet doors, windows, or shelves that you would set things on. All the latex paints never cure hard and things stick and the paint pulls off so I thought this would be the answer.
Well wrong, this stuff is just like any water based latex semi-gloss or gloss paint, I painted a dual hung window sill and let it dry for a couple of days before closing it all the way, after a week I tried to open it and it pulled the paint up and the paint was all rubbery and stretchy like all the other water based junk out there.
My suggestion is stay away, if tacky paint is a concern for you will just have to get a hold of real oil based paint to get that hard shell dried finish, I even tried all the high end brands that you can only get at their stores and same thing; the paint has just changed with all the newer regulations, you need oil based paint if you don't want it to stick.
Home Depot was gracious enough to let me return the paint even though it was mixed to a custom color; I will be emailing Glidden about going back to the drawing board for this product.
Pros: none
Cons: doesn't do what it says, cost too much
No, I do not recommend this product.
