Bought this CH41Z Amtrol Boiler Mate on 8/28/09 to replace a used Boiler Mate that I (stupidly) bought the year before to save money when I installed a new Biasi oil fired boiler. Naturally, it crapped out in 2009, necessitating the new purchase. Although the old boiler mate had the older style connections on the bottom, it was easy enough to set the unit up for the newer, upper controls- just sweating a few new joints. The unit has functioned flawlessly since. I flush my boiler, lines and Amtrol once a year and replace the water (and in my case, 50% antifreeze; lots of exposed crawl space). Perhaps others have had concerns related to longevity, but I feel that maintenance goes a long way to insuring long life.
Pros: Durable, Easy to Use, Sturdy, High Quality, good value

Installed in my 3 bath home with two teenage daughters and they can't run this thing out of hot water! It connects to my existing boiler system, so there was no additional fuel lines to hook up or venting. Dropped my oil use too.
Tip: Different to install from a standard water heater so read the manual first. Also little pricey but you get what you pay for, right?

No, I do not recommend this product.
My original indirect water heater died after 21 years. Replaced it with this unit which started leaking after 2 years from a gasket just above where the lines come into it. HD replaced it with the latest model which has all the plumbing on top, which meant even more plumbing work to install, which isn't covered by the warranty.
The second unit failed after 10 months and had to be replaced.
First, where the plumbing connections were placed was a bad design. Instead of the hot and cold water lines on one side and the boiler lines on the other side, it is the opposite, so the pipes basically need to cross each other.
Second, I guess Amtrol moved the plumbing from the bottom to the top hoping to fix the leaking gasket problem but that didn't work. After a while the gasket will fail and the unit will start leaking.
Overall, this is a poorly designed and built model. Making this a sealed unit would fix the leaking issue, but then they can't replaced the bladder when that goes bad. The fact that Amtrol doesn't cover labor even during the first year should tell you something.
Cons: Not Durable, Difficult to Install
