Initially was hard to start. It took 4 hours to get it going. Not sure what happened. The location of some of the parts like the gas filter are tucked away and hard to get to. Some electric wires were too short and routed in awkwardly like blocking the oil dipstick. It start fine now. I only used it to run an electric drill as a test. It is noisy and the instructions are poorly written. For the money, I think the above could be improved. A note in the instruction stated that it cannot run on 85 gas/15 Ethanol. Congress is considering going to that product.

Good looking and ready for action
I purchase this Generac XG 10000 Watts Portable unit. Installing the wheels was the easy part. The oil opening is very tight under the tank and very narrow so that no funnel fits properly in. I spilled quite a bit of oil until I rigged up a hose to a funnel and this way succeeded to fill oil to the crank case. The battery connecting cables are also in a very tight spot. A real pain to connect. I then filled just about 4 gallons gasoline to get it running. As per instructions I pulled the choke switched the fuel to on position and push start button to start. It cranked but it would not start. I checked the spark and it was ok. Checked the fuel and that was ok. And so after stressing for an hour I gave up and decided to take it back top the store. Next morning before loading it on my trailer I gave it another try. I turned the fuel knob to on, pulled the choke real hard and it started with no problem first time. I concluded that the choke armature was slightly bent at the source and it prevented the choke to extend all the way. I easily fixed that just by gently jamming a screw driver between the choke armature and the obstructing holding plate. And it started every time since with absolutely no problem. As a foot note I want to say that this company is very bad about service. Most stores give you 30 days to return item, after that you’re on your own. Generac recommends places to repair, however, some are out dated and out of business and most others don’t want to repair Generac brand. Yet others are very far from where one lives. No one makes house calls. I had this problem with a previous Generac 7500 Watts. It ran ok for 10 years, then it broke and I could not get it serviced. I ended up donating it. Generac is made by Generac in the good old USA I recommend it with no less than 10000 watts for the whole house.
Cons: hard to fill oil, battery cables hard to connect, handle locking needs adjustment
Yes, I recommend this product.

I have received the generator, made sure the battery was charged and connected, filled it with oil and gasoline and started it up. It ran like a champ and was very quiet for its size. The initial start-up took some time, probably having to do with getting the oil and gas through the system, so don't worry if it doesn't turn over the first time you push the START button. The oil filter, air filter, ground wire, and spark plug were all in place and ready to go. The spare oil filter, air filter and spark plugs were all there as promised. The problems I see with the unit all have to do with installing/replacing the air filter and the battery. The battery box is secured with bolts and you don't have adequate room to easily get a wrench or pliers on these bolts to loosen or tighten them. As for the air filter, it rests in a box on top of the motor, directly under the gas tank. You literally have to reach up into the generator to unsnap the lid replace the dirty air filter and then re-close the lid. The summer-winter switch is up in there as well. So don't go up in there while the engine is hot! Other than that, I really like the unit and don't regret buying it for a minute. And the best thing of all is that is is made right here in the United States of America!!! My understanding is that all of the "XG" series units are built here, but not all of the other units in other series.
Pros: Easy to Use, Compact, Lots of Features
Yes, I recommend this product.

This unit seems to be of very good quality. It took a total of 45 minutes to assemble and add the oil and fuel. It also only took only about 5 seconds to start. It is a fairly large unit but was quieter than I had anticipated. It is important that you do not add all of the oil that comes with it. It only needed 1.5 quarts to fill it and add at least 7 gallons of gas to the tank to make sure the low fuel sensor allows it to start. It comes with an oil filter, air filter, 2 quarts of oil, a trickle charger for the battery, 2 spark plugs, a paper funnel and enough Sta-Bil fuel preservative to add to 2.5 gallons of fuel. If you plan on storing fuel I would recommend the Eagle metal 5 gallon cans. They are expensive but worth it. Avoid the plastic ones. The caps are garbage and complicated. Read reviews if you havent used the plastic ones with the new caps and you will see everyone has a problem with them. You will also need a funnel with a flexible hose to add the oil without making a mess. Pep Boys sells a nice one with a built in shut off and caps on both ends. I also purchased a two qt bottle of 30W oil so I am ready to change the oil at the recommended 30 hours. Although it is not advertised this unit also has an oil cooler. I will be powering a well, 2 refrigerator/freezers, furnace, garage door opener and various lights and electronics in the home. I will be plugging it in through a 50 amp 10 curcuit manual transfer switch to be able to take advantage of the output of the unit. I will be purchasing an automatic trickle charger like a Battery Tender since the supplied charger cannot be left plugged in at all times and you would not want to have a dead battery since there is no pull start so if your battery is dead your generator is useless.
Pros: Easy to Use, Lots of Features, Nice Design, fairly quiet, plenty of power 45 amps, led lighting on outlets, hour meter, power meter, low oil shutoff, low fuel shut off, oil cooler
Yes, I recommend this product.

Unit seems to be a good value. One odd thing, after starting the unit, I pluged in an electric drill into the 120 v receptacle, and the drill didn't run. Finally I noticed two double pole type switches so I turned the top one on. Ta da! There is marking on on the panel indicating the switches are for the high amperage outlets, not the 120v outlets. Nothing in the operator instructions say to turn on one of the switches. In the manual, the switches are not discussed in any detail. Strange.
Pros: Lots of Features, Nice Design
Cons: Too Heavy, circuit on/off switches not referenced
Yes, I recommend this product.

easy initial preparation for start up. unit starts easy and is easy to operate. instructions need significant improvement as several things to know are left out. no tech support via phone available from factory as you are referred to a local sales and service center for questions. home depot on line phone ordering was very easy to use and efficient.

The manual fail to tell you how to select power to the 120 outlets, and generac do not have trc. people, the give you a service out let. It also will not start with out a near full tank of fuel. To put power to the 120 out lets you have to turn on the 220 switches, but I hole not to have to use it, but it looks like a very nice unite.
Pros: Nice Design
Yes, I recommend this product.
