This model is similar to their ICM-50LS which uses mechanical gearing instead of a magnetic drive so it can get the ice cream to a truly frozen state instead of the soft serve state of this model. Unlike all models less then $199, current price. This one and their ICM-50LS both come with compressor, just like in your freezer/refrigerator so the truly chill any ingredients until done just not until the heat from the ingredients has leaked into the metal canister. One that heat is gone you are stuck. I will just churn and NEVER get colder. If you want Ice Cream on hot day. You are out of luck unless you buy the ICM-15LS, ICM-50LS or get a pile of dry ice and and old fashioned crank model. With either the ICM-15LS or the ICM-50LS you can make it anytime, instantly. It is best if you put the ingredient into a refrigerator until it reaches below 40 degrees and some recipes require curing as well but once the ingredients are ready you do not have to wait overnight for each batch. I've done two batch often and then put it away for next time. You can not do that with models from Cu!$n@r+, etc. The ICM-50LS, also from Whynter and uses the same buckets, can go all the way to a frozen state and gets five stars from me but this is probably the next beat model and a solid 4 stars since it will only go to a soft serve/sorbet state before stopping. One warning, with the other model you must turn it off once the "done" alarm goes off it it will get so hard you can not remove the paddle since the compressor stays on until you turn it off. This model is similar, the alarm goes of once it can no longer spin the paddle because the ingredient have become too solid to churn anymore but since it's magnetically driven it has less torque before stopping. This does give you a bit more time to empty out the bucket into a freezer safe container such as those by Rubbermaid which is what I use. Freezing can take anywhere from 20 minutes (sorbets are quickest) to 70 minutes (happened to me only once, I just reset it and it ran about 10 minutes more before being frozen and transferred to another container). A typical Ice Cream runs closer to the 40 minutes mentioned in the description if already down to 38-40 degrees before beginning. Sorbets take 20-30 minutes, depending on quantity, temperature and contents. I've made about a score of batches using the similar ICM-50LS but it's getting to be that time of year again.
Yes, I recommend this product.

After receiving two ice cream makers with major flaws, I received one in perfect condition. I've made three batches
of ice cream since I received it four days ago. Works well and in no time flat the ice cream is done. I am completely satisfied, just sorry it took three tries to get it right!
Yes, I recommend this product.

Received my first unit last week. Housing was bent and I had to return it. Got my second unit yesterday - the plastic frame holding the metal housing is broken on one end. Am probably sending it back. I've debated ordering for a year and figure spending this much money I should receive a product that is not damaged! Looks nice but can't rate yet.I will when I receive one in good condition!

Both my mom and my sister bought this, so I was slow to catch on but I finally got mine. I was hoping it would go on sale again, but it didn't so I had to bite the bullet and pay full price. I don't know how energy effecient it is which is why I left that part blank. I am a little bit worried that my power bill is going to shoot up. It does get noisy at the end, but if you have a large space you probably won't notice it. My mom has a large kitchen and living room and the noise isn't bad for her, but I have a very small kitchen so I notice it at the end.

After trying a few other ice cream makers in the $50 and over range, I settled on the Whynter - and I'm glad I did! The others were very noisy and didn't work well at all. They had removable bowls that had to be frozen overnight, and the mix had to be very cold in order to achieve any kind of solidity. Even then, the product was slushy and had to be frozen. The final product was icy. Very annoying. The Whynter is a one-button affair. Put your mix in the bucket, push the button and walk away. You can time it for as long as you want it to freeze, or, if it's frozen before the time is up, it will automatically turn off while keeping the temperature below freezing. Just the ticket, short of a full-on commercial machine!
Yes, I recommend this product.

This is a very impressive device. No pre-freeze hassle. Just put in your mixture and an hour later, rich creamy goodness. Can't be easier to use and looks great on the countertop
In love with it.

After the third time of haveing the machine sent to me, it works great. The first two times the machines' casing was bent and not completely atttached. In one fo the two broken items, one rattled heavily and smelled as if it had burned out already.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Once I got a couple of gelato/sorbet cookbooks, I got a much better perspective on how gelato and sorbets are made. This meant a huge difference in the outcome of what I made. Now my gelatos and sorbets are smooth and creamy and very delicious.

This product is amazing! Fairly quiet, it makes ice cream within 30 - 40 minutes without having to worry about all of the ice and pre-freezing process. Definitely a must for those cooks who make ice cream on a frequent basis and who want restaurant quality!!

I'll be the first to admit that I never though an ice cream maker could be this much fun. Incredible. We just can't put it down. We sit down at lunch every single day. and start talking about what we want to make for dessert.
It's extremely easy to use and clean and makes wonderful quality ice cream. This is paying for itself as we speak.
Yes, I recommend this product.

My husband was shopping for a new BBQ grill and decided to get this for me out of guilt. I've always mentioned how delightful it would be to be able to make our own healthy gelatos and ice creams. This definitely worked out as hoped. Very easy to use and churns out a nicely consistent product. Quite happy with it.
