I have owned other portable air conditioners in the past. I love the fact that this one is self contained which means no buckets of water to empty. The sound is not loud - it's very compatible with any other that I've heard. I have one in each bedroom. Turn it on, close the door, and the room is at the temperature that I selected within 10 minutes. I love that I don't loose the ability to still open the window and enjoy the fresh air when I want that instead. It's perfect. When I'm not using the unit, I simply detach the hose and roll the unit into the closet. Has made my life so much easier. Excellent product, excellent value for the money.

Originally I was looking for a window mount unit which is typically more efficient, quieter and cheaper than a portable unit. However, I just didn't want to go through the hassle of installing a window unit.
The Haier unit offers a nice alternative to window mount unit. It is very well built and easy to setup. I use the unit primarily for air conditioning. In this mode, there is no need to empty the water tray, which is a big plus, since I have wood floors. The unit puts out a good amount of cold air. It dropped the temperature in the room by 5 degrees within an hour and kept the room cool. The noise is average. I wouldn't call this a noisy unit, but I wouldn't say it is quiet either. Finally, the price is right. It is one of the least expensive (Home Depot has the best price) and well rated portable air conditioner. I found the reviews to be true.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Before purchasing this A/C unit, we read many reviews of this and similar products. Our only concern was some had complained about the noise level. Believe me, that is not a problem. It's about the same noise level as if you had a fan sitting in your room. I was also concerned about how the window exhaust would look (since the room we use it in is in the front of the house. The design is nice and sleek and hardly noticeable from the street view. Not to mention, we usually ending up turning it off the room gets so cold. Excellent choice.

The AC unit is more expensive than most portable AC units; however it is powerful and convenient. Furthermore, the size of the unit fits in small spaces or corners if necessary. It has timer settngs and a remote control. I would recommend this product.

It's a nice sturdy A/C unit and does the job I ordered it for.
The noise complaints are legitimate. It is a good amount louder than a window unit. I got used to sleeping with this running after two nights though. It is about the same noise as a cheap box fan running on high when the compressor is on.
Installation is very simple. The exhaust hose screws itself into the window bracket and then the bracket that mounts to the A/C unit. I have had no issues with it coming loose at all. I have the window insert installed on a slider style window and taped in place with clear packing tape. I did not use the screws included as I want to remove this when the weather cools. The tape seals perfectly, removes easily, looks fine and makes for quick install and removal.
My master bedroom is 24x15 and on the second floor. Just shy of the 400 sq ft limit. The house has central air, but this room has no vents, so it collects the heat. The rest of the house will be 70 and this room will be 78. This A/C unit is able to pull down the bedroom (with door closed of course) to a comfortable 69-70 within a few hours on a hot day (90+ with thick humidity) I have not had to drain the unit once and it's been running on and off over 6 different hot days. If it does need to be drained the drain hose attachment is on the back of the unit, not on the bottom like so many others. Very convenient.
My only complaint is that the thermostat is way off on this unit. Two normal temp gauges in the room say the room is 73, and the a/c unit thinks it's 70. So if you want the room to be 69, you need to set it for 66. Also, when it reaches the set temp it shuts off as it should, only to start again literally a minute later. The thermostat for the built in gauge must be right next to the motor or something. The instant it shuts off the thermostat thinks the temp jumped five degrees and starts again. It's quite annoying.
All in all, I'm glad I have it, it beats trying to sleep in a hot room with three fans running. I turn the unit on, let it run for a few hours to chill the room down and shut it off. The noise becomes normal pretty quickly. I can still hear the TV fine.
I like that it's not permanently installed in my window all summer long. You can barely even tell it's in the window from the outside. Exactly what I wanted.
Yes, I recommend this product.

So far seems to work very well. My AC went out so I am using it to cool living room. Works well for one room, it is heavy so you have to be careful getting it out of the box. You are not suppose to tip it on it's side because of the refrigerant. I suggest you have a helper.

I liked the look of the Heier 10,000 BTU a/c and the features, but I returned it because even though it suggested being capable of cooling up to 350 sq. ft., the 280 sq. ft I was using it for never cooled off. I bought an in store unit of 12,000 BTU and am very happy with the results. It is another brand however . . . LG

I bought 2 of these for IT room cooling. They are about half the space that it specs on this A/C unit, but lots of servers and switches generating lots of heat, these units keep the rooms at a nice 68 degrees, perfect for electronics like that. The remote is nice but it just stays attached to the unit.

This air conditioner has great cooling capability. I purchased it for my bedroom and takes no time at all to cool it. The one thing that kept me from giving it a five star rating is that for the bedroom it is very noisey and loud when the compressor kicks in. If you are a sound sleeper you won't have any problem otherwise it's more suited for rooms other than the bedroom.

I've been looking for a portable unit for the past several summers. I wanted to be certain I would invest in the right one. It was easy to set up, is easy to relocate and cools comfortably. Being a day sleeper, I am now able to sleep, uninterrupted, for 6-8 hours. I would compare the sound to a hotel room unit. Enough to block outside noise, but quiet enough to watch TV. I am very pleased and satisfied with this product.

The AC in my apartment is pretty useless (will stay on 24/7 if it gets above 70 degrees)...and I have a pet rabbit...so need to keep at least the room he's in at 70ish degrees. Thermometer across the room gets down to 65-67 degrees when I have this thing set at 65....room is about 400-500 square feet all-told...so it does the job very well. Blows ice-cold air. Not the cheapest unit you can get from HD, but it does great so the extra expense is worth it. Only gripe is that the instructions are a little too basic, but you can figure it out fairly quickly. I had a little fun getting the hose attached (stretch the hose all the way out at the end and "screw" on the ports on the end...but don't push to hard or the hose will contract). For 400 sq ft or less, this is the one to get.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Was a bit expensive, but works as advertised. The unit itself is wonderful. We use it to supplement our central AC. The master bedroom is the hotest part of the house. We insulated the attic and added this unit to help with this problem.
The unit is attractive and seems reasonably well built. On high it is quiet and cools very well. The remote works from all parts of the room, but using the remote is limited because you can't see the screen from more then six feet away(that may just be me). The unit is a bit heavy, but not outragously so. We have had it up and running for two days and love it.
The install is a tad more difficult as we have aluminum windows and the window kit is more for wooden framed windows. I bought some weather stripping and basic foam insulation and started brain storming. I was able to use the two screws that screw into the window sill and used 3m tape on the part that attatches to the bottom of the window. The kit itself seems fairly strong and durable. The install is working well and I don't see it coming apart for some time. I bought window stops to ensure the windows can't be forced open from the outside.
The exhaust gets hot!!!!! I wraped the hose with AC duct wrap and now no heat escapes into the room.
This all may seem a bit extreme, but so woth the effort. I hope this helps :)

Cons: Difficult to Install

Decent cooling for smaller room

I bought this portable a/c during the hottest month of summer. The first night we used it I was pleased to see we had finally made a dent in our 90+ degree home. I have listed the positives and negatives we encountered.
Positives:
*Quickly chills our 160 sq ft bedroom by 20 degrees.
*Cools my 220 sq ft living room by 8 to 10 degrees, a significant difference.
*Cycles on and off once temperature is reached.
*Relatively quiet
Cons:
*Cooling would not reach farther than living room. Our home thermostat 10ft past living room showed no difference.
*Remote never worked.
*The compressor takes several minutes to restart after shutting down, so I had to set the thermostat cooler than i wanted to keep the temperature right when cycling on/off.
*The exhaust hose bracket is easily broken.
*Not extremely portable (portable a/c).
*The blue l.e.d. light is extremely overbearing at night.
This unit cools most efficiently when seated near it. This unit is a must when watching a flat panel tv during summer months. Placing fans blowing from the a/c out improves the reach of cool air. Someone wanting to make this unit more portable could design a mount for the second window; screwing and unscrewing the supplied mount is just not feasible as it will break. This does work as an excellent de-humidifier during humid months. We blew our circuit breaker a couple times with the electrical strain; this should definately run on its own circuit. I can't imagine this cooling a 400 sq ft room, as stated, more than 2 or 3 degrees. I don't think it would be worth the money for that. I didn't bother calling about the remote because I didn't need it anyway.

Needed additional Cold AC in west facing small 100 x 100 sq. ft. bedroom with lots of electronic devices that kept the room 5 to 7 degrees warmer than rest of the house. This unit satisfied that need and after a month now, has met my expectations. Not fond of the blue light basking the room at night, or the noise when unit is on, but neither the sound or light is so obtrusive that it keeps me from sleeping or unable to hear the TV in the closet w/computer, printer and other devices. Unit is attractive and looks to be well built, but the 5 ft. exhaust hose is too short on this unit just like they are on all portable AC units, Fortunately I was able to put the unit up on a large nightstand in reach of the window. Remote works great w/all the features you need to operate unit from a distance. Never use the Dehumidifier so never had to empty water from tray under unit nor remove and wash the easily accessible air filter from the back. Very satisfied with this well built black and silver AC unit for the comparably low price- as long as it keeps working for at least a few years;-]
