The Cadet Softheat hydronic baseboard heater has a lot to recommend it. Firstly, it is well built - it doesn't seem at all flimsy or cheap, like some old electric baseboard units I remember from the past.. The sheet metal feels fairly sturdy, and the paint surface is of nice quality. Secondly, the instructions are clear and simple, although if you aren't comfortable with electrical work you should definitely have an electrician install it. Thirdly, because it's hydronic (has fluid to retain the heat), it holds heat well. That is, once it's up to temperature, the heat stays nice and even, without that 'burning dust' smell which sometimes accompanies non-hydronic baseboard heaters. The even heat is the luxury of a hydronic heater, which comes at a fairly substantial extra cost. I think it's well worth it. And, because the heat is even, the heater doesn't make all these little clicking and ticking noises as it warms up and cools off. It just sits there, quiet and warm. I have another one of these heaters in an enclosed porch area, and I liked it so much I've bought one for another spot.
One thing which surprised me about the installation was that it was recommended to place the heater right against the wall. That is, there doesn't need to be a baseboard. That's nice, because the room it's in is very narrow, so that made a little more space. You should also be aware that there should be no outlets above the heater. The installation instructions can easily be found online, and you might want to review them before purchasing to be sure the heater is right for you. Cadet also has somewhere on their website a calculator which helps to determine what size heater is right for the space. I found that helpful as well.
My baseboard heater is set up on an outside wall, with a separate thermostat on an inside wall. That arrangement works very well. The thermostat switches the 220V to the heater, so make sure it's the right type for this. Some thermostats use a relay to do the switching, which makes a little 'click' whenever the heater goes on or off. The thermostat I selected has a tric (a solid state relay for AC power) to control the switching, so it is absolutely silent - no clicking at all. Again, if terms like 'amps, watts, volts, ohms, ground, resistive load, etc. are not perfectly familiar to you - get an electrician. It's not that hard, but it may not be the best project to learn on.
Pros: Sturdy, Easy to Install, Looks Great, Easy to Clean, Quiet

I did some renovation to make room for my 21 year old in a house that had a "closet" for a 3rd bedroom. The Cadet was my choice to heat that new room. I love the shallow profile and it's a comfortable heat.

Heats my 8 x 12 office just fine. A gradual heat that isn't too hot near the baseboard area. Zero noise. Fits perfect under a window. A little boxy looking but overall very pleased with this unit. Wired it to the Cadet digital thermostat which seems to work quite well with the unit.
Pros: Performs Well, Easy to Install, Quiet
Cons: boxy design

These were relatively easy to hook up (the pain was fishing a 220 line through the walls). But once they're paired with a thermostat the heat output it great. Since they're oil filled, they radiate for quite a while once the power is cycled off, which is nice. Provides a nice constant heat for the room.
Only have had a week, so jury is still out on the impact to my energy bill.
