Building a veranda armor guard composite deck is a great way to create an outdoor living space without the time consuming maintenance and expense. With its rich, natural wood tones, it has the appearance of real wood, but won't fade, stain, rot or splinter.

This is an excellent product. It takes a little experience to install it efficiently. You should make sure your deck framing is sized so you do not have to trim the sides of the boards unless it is what you want. We pre-drill our clip screw holes at an angle toward the last board installed to snug up the board. Also, eleven (11) 5.25" boards with gaps is 60.1 inches wide. So a gap averages 0.225 inches between boards. I could not find anyone or anything to tell you this gap distance. As always, begin your decking against a line on the joists, not against a frames edge, in order to keep them straight. My deck has been in place for a year and it looks great. You can get a matching color high end opaque exterior stain to paint edges, screws, on the outside edge, and deck plank ends. Sharp hits on the decking surface will cut through the finished surface, exposing the composite underneath. Use stain to fill in any scars and wipe the excess from the finished surface. Hope this helps.

Review 2 for 16 Ft. Brazilian Walnut Capped Composite Decking Grooved

Easy to buy the decking but any accessories will cost you

No, I do not recommend this product.
I recently spent lots of money on this product to do my 16 foot by 14 foot deck. The Brazilian Walnut color is nice, but it shows dirt very easily. The biggest problem with this product is that Home Depot doesn't carry ANY of the accessories to this decking in this color. The special order desk priced out the railings, which were Special Order only. The railings price was over 2.5 times as much as it would have cost me to buy 30 boards of the decking. I recently tried to get the vinyl lattice they make in this color, and it was almost twice as much because it's special order. Home Depot wanted to double the price of the identical product on the shelf because they don't stock this color. The reason I was given was because it doesn't sell as much as the other colors, but since it is not carried in any stores it doesn't have a chance to sell.
The system that locks the boards together is nice, unless you ever need to replace a board. If that ever happens you will need to take apart the entire deck. If I were to do it over again I would do my deck in the grey or use the trex products which are more accessable and have accessories to match.

Review 3 for 16 Ft. Brazilian Walnut Capped Composite Decking Grooved
I recently travelled to St. Louis to help a family member build a 32 x 16 deck with the Veranda decking. Overall, the product looks nice when complete. It was easy to install and the boards were straight and the same size. However, there are some issues that Home Depot needs to fix. The first issue is Home Depot does not carry all of the items necessary to complete the deck. They do not carry the facia board, railings and 16' boards without the grooves. The can all be special ordered. We ended up using Azek facia boards, which we quite pricey. Also, we used the Armour Guard Veranda screws made for this decking. On the instructions, it says predrilling is not necessary. They are way off. We ended up predrilling each of the 1925 screws used on the deck.

Review 4 for 16 Ft. Brazilian Walnut Capped Composite Decking Grooved
Before I bought Veranda, I compared all the locally available composite materials, including the ones at lumber yards. I even bought a 8' piece, dropped some ketchup, oil, mustard and maple syrup on it and left it in backyard for a week. After washing it with water, there were no stains.
The unique feature of Veranda Armorgaurd is that is has a plastic coating on a composite core. The coating makes it non porous. Compared to Trex and other products which do not have that coating, this does not absorb anything, and does not accumulate pollen/spores.
Installation was easy with the special hidden fasteners, except on the ends where I had to use screws. Fasteners are a little expensive, but the decking itself is cheaper than other brands.
After one year of extreme heat and mild winters it looks as good as new. I'll probably write another review in a few years.

Review 5 for 16 Ft. Brazilian Walnut Capped Composite Decking Grooved
installing using armor guard hidden fasteners was easy and painless, except when it came to using the finishing fasteners - would not work for my application and had to resort to plan b (deck screws). A few of the boards were miss shaped on the ends, so be sure to look over your materials closely before leaving the store.

Review 6 for 16 Ft. Brazilian Walnut Capped Composite Decking Grooved
The Brazilian Walnut was time consuming, but easy to install. The dark finish looks great. Unfortunately, I am now looking for some thing to cover it up with. The decking gets so unbelievably hot, you can't possibly walk on it with bare feet. I'm not talking about those 100 degree days here. Even on 80 degree days, if it's in the sun, the deck is so hot it will burn the skin off your feet. It looks great, but absolutely not worth it!
