No, I do not recommend this product.
This tool is made out of aluminum, which is too soft to actually to do the job. If you encounter a difficult cartridge to remove good luck because this tool won’t be any good for your next job. Spend the extra money and get the Moen tool made out of steel. Yes the Moen tool costs more, but you won’t be stuck with your water turned off if this worthless piece of junk doesn’t work the first time.

Great tool, I used it to replace my completely frozen Moen shower cartridge. Didn't buy it from Home Depot though. None of the HD stores in town had them in stock, so the only option was to buy it online for $25.48. Lowes had the same tool in stock and the price was $12.97! So, the choice was obvious. Put 2 stars for quality since the tool bended a bit after a struggle with my cartridge. Still should be able to use it in a future.

don't buy the cheaper 12.00 dollar one ,this is the one you want .saved a lot by not having a plumber come out. also bought the new cartridge at home depot for 68.00 dollars less than the plumber wanted for one off his truck!

The cartridge was really stuck. Youtube videos shows plumbers pulling the cartridge apart and using a tap to remove the core. If you are not careful the process could cause damage to the mounting area behind the wall. This tool is well built and efficient. It creates leverage against the cartridge housing eliminating the stress pulling causes. If you are the original owner of the house, Moen replaces the cartridges for free.
Pros: Reliable

If you have a Moen Cartridge system for your faucets or showers, I highly recommend this tool. I finally had to replace the one in my shower that was leaking after 20+ years of use. I tried to pull it out as a lot of online help said to do, but it was stuck in here pretty good. This tool helped me pull it out within 5 minutes. My level skill of plumbing is pretty basic (have only replaced the kitchen sink faucet prior to this). Now my shower works even better (smooth in turning) and no more leak!

Heavy duty, worked fine on a really stuck plastic bodied aftermarket "Moen type" cartridge. You still have to "pull" since it doesn't work like a pulley puller. It grasps the cartridge and gives you something to grip while still using your own muscles.

Before buying this tool, I tried every possible way to pull the old cartridge out. Finally, after an hour, I decided to give up before I accidentally yanked the valve out of the pipes or broke the old pipes. Then, I went online and read the reviews of the 1222 cartridge. Someone suggested to use a cartridge puller. With this cartridge removal tool, I was able to loosen the cartridge and easily pull it out of the valve using a pliers. I don't think this tool is overpriced: without it, I may have to hire a plumber which would cost a lot more.

Well made and easy to use. Slid my cartridge right out. Tried to remove with plyers with no luck. Yanking on the cartridge could pull the valve assembly loose from its mount or loosen fittings. Then your DIYS project just became a nightmare. Use this tool!!

The end screw hole and threads in the cartridge need to be intact for this tool to work. If you cannot thread the bolt of the removal tool into those threads it will not work. This tool will not work either if you happen to pull the internal parts out of the brass sleeve of a all-brass Moen 1225 cartridge. You will need a different tool to pull that sleeve out once the internal parts are removed. If the screw hole is intact on the old cartridge, this tool should work just fine.
Cons: limited use on damaged cartridges.

I was a little concerned about getting a quality tool that didn't mess up the shower valve body after doing some online research. Cheaper versions of this tool caused some users heartburn and necessitated hiring a plumber to remove the whole fixture -- I didn't need that. This is a tool that is up to the job. If you are changing one of the shower valves/cartridges listed in the product features this will do the job for you. One of the two that I swapped out was an original from 1976. The other had been replaced more recently. The tool made short work of both.

Makes changing a stuck seized cartridge so much easier. Downside is that it's an expensive tool for something you might use once in a blue moon.
Pros: time saver
Cons: cost, vague instructions

To get a specialty tool that isn't very expensive and does exactly what it says it will do, and do it with ease is really nice. This tool is simple to operate and makes an otherwise very difficult task a breeze without damaging anything. Trying to remove Moen cartridges by other means is probably going to cause you headaches and time. Buy one! You'll feel like a pro!
