Install went well, straight forward. I was replacing an older wooden ladder - so much of the work was already done..from when I installed original 15 years ago. So - this ladder is light - very smooth - far better than the old spring designs. Opens and closes effortlessly. Nice. The problem is: the part of the ladder attached to the ceiling panel is much too close to the ladder - you have less than an inch between the rung and wooden panel - so only the first 2 inches or so of your foot will fit on the ladder - unless you turn your feet sideways. Ugh. I got the heavy duty ladder so I could store heavy stuff in the attic - but I really struggle to walk up and down the ladder. Too bad.
Pros: Easy to Install, Good Size & Weight, Nice Design
Cons: design flaw

I was in a position where I needed to have an attic access put in a house I purchased that was built in the 50s, with only a tiny access hatch in the upstairs closet. After doing some searching online, I found this ladder and knew it was the one to get. Very sturdy 375 lb. capacity was a very important point for me, as this was being put in to allow workers to install a new heat pump unit in the attic. The large opening size and lack of large springs also played into my decision. I was concerned at first because the description states the rungs are only 2" deep, but once i got it, I measured and the rungs were actually 3". It is lightweight and easy to maneuver when installing, and if it hadn't been for a ton of prep work just to get the hole ready for the ladder, I'm sure we could have put the ladder in place in just a matter of an hour or so, including cutting the legs to length and installing the feet. Overall, a super ladder for a great price, and I'd buy another in a heartbeat.
Pros: Durable, Sturdy, Easy to Install, Easy to Move, Good Size & Weight, Nice Design
Yes, I recommend this product.

I purchased this ladder due to low cost and weight capacity I’m a big guy at 6’1” 300lbs so I needed a heavy duty ladder. Installation was pretty easy and Werner has an install video that shows the whole process. Only requiring basic tools most do-it-yourselfers would have, but you will need a helper (no way around it) to get the door dropped in place and to move your ladder around for you while your securing the frame to the studs. Make sure you take your time installing the feet on the ladder after cutting to length and make sure all the hinges on the ladder are tightly closed, doing this will insure that your ladder will be solid as a rock, I had to adjust the height on one of the feet as I discovered our stained concrete floors are not perfectly level. I have to say I’m extremely pleased with the ladder it’s a lot sturdier than the wooden one I replaced and I feel safer using it.
Pros: Sturdy, Easy to Install, Easy to Move, Good Size & Weight, Durable, Nice Design

Much better than old wood unit it replaced, but steps seem shallow compared to old one. You have to wear footwear with grippy soles, like sneakers.

I'll echo what most reviews here say. This ladder is very well constructed, and installs fairly easily. We were replacing an older wooden ladder that had hardware issues. (Basically, the springs bent the arm in, making the ladder impossible to open.) It took my wife and I longer to get the old ladder out than to install the new ladder. Once installed, the ladder is very easy to open and close thanks to the gas struts.
Here's the caveat, and the main reason I deducted 1/2 a star: The steps themselves are somewhat narrow compared to the wooden steps. By narrow, I mean they are not as deep as their wooden counterparts by a few inches. Not a major problem until you reach the top section of the ladder. If you have bigger feet, you're going to barely be able to get your toes on the steps because of the board / cover and how close the ladder is to the board. I have size 9's, and I have to angle my feet at that point to feel stable getting up and down. Not really a deal breaker, but something to consider when looking at wood vs. aluminum.
As for the issue, the ladder we purchased actually had some black mold on it by the hinge, as if the ladder had gotten wet and sat there forever. This was the last ladder of this size our Home Depot had, otherwise I would have returned it. Instead, my wife and I scrubbed with some diluted bleach, which added another half hour onto the start-to-finish install time. Wasn't exactly thrilled, and the mold was covered by cardboard so we didn't see it until after unpackaging AND removing the old ladder. But that's why the other 1/2 star has been deducted.
Pros: Easy to Install, Easy to Move, Nice Design
Cons: stair treads are not very deep
Yes, I recommend this product.

While overall this ladder seems to have decent build quality, be aware this ladder is made in China. This means the lumber on it isn't your typical US lumber type or sizes. The frame is finger jointed which raises strength issues, and seems to be made out of some sort of lightweight whitewood and not stronger yellow pine which is typical of US products. Also, the 1x4's of the frame aren't quite full dimension as compared to US spec 1x4's. The plywood cover is nice, thicker, smoother however which is a plus compared to the more typical 1/8 inch on other brands (Louisville). The ladder itself is of lighter weight material and the side beams are narrower than Louisville, but the steps are designed to extend beyond the sides to give 3" step surfaces. Be aware however the toe room on the top section that is attached to the door cover is only 1" which is far less than the equivalent Louisville ladder which has 1 3/4" room. Bottom line for me is I plan to return this ladder and go with the Louisville brand since it has more toe room, more sturdy ladder side rails, slightly more step length (3.25" versus 3.0"), and solid yellow pine rails for the frame, and is at least made in this continent (Mexico).
Pros: Good Size & Weight
Cons: china made, finger jointed lumber
No, I do not recommend this product.

Our last ladder was only rated for 250 pound and broke. We got this one to replace it and support extra weight of carrying items in. Its much quieter with its gaskets instead of springs. Best part is that it was at the time of purchase about $100 cheaper than the same exact ladder at Lowes. As far as install could not get any easier. The manufacturer put out a 10 minute video on how to install for this exact model on YouTube.

Our install took about 6 hours with two people. Installation was relatively easy, and the installation videos Werner provides on its Web site are fantastic! The wide opening and high capacity were essential to me at 6'4". the ladder opens and closes very easily. I replaced the cord with a large cabinet door knob and framed the opening with casing to give it a finished look since it was installed in our living space.

I am pleased with this ladder for its light-weight but sturdy structure when it is fully extended. However, you have to be careful not to twist it when unfolding it as it can shimmy and warp if you don't pull it out from the center of the ladder. Once it's in place, it feels very solid and is a huge upgrade from the wooden ladder it replaced. Plus, it folds back up easily and the hydraulic lifts are much better than the bulky old springs on my old ladder.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Well built, great instructions, easy to install. The best part was the price. This same attic ladder goes for $246 at Lowes and much more on internet sites. On the build side it took me about four hours to install which included having to frame in the ruff opening and all that entails. Pretty much a one person job until you put the ladder unit up into the attic and then you need a helper. Too Easy!

I installed this ladder myself, so it took a little longer than the estimated time required in the instructions and I had to frame the opening. However it is so light that I had no problem lifting it into place and securing it, even though I am not a big guy. It is sturdy and easy to operate, makes access to the attic so much easier than the 18 in x24 in hole I had to squeeze through before.

Needed to replace an antique ladder that was 24 years old and not trustworthy. Had to disassemble the old one to remove it but the new ladder went in easily. It is very sturdy. Total time to remove old ladder and install this one was a shade beyond three hours which did not include painting and wood door trim. Now I know this one isn't going to shatter as I climb it.
