I live in Phoenix AZ area, this is by far, bar none, the ONLY annual rye grass to purchase. Keep it watered, duh, and you will have one of, if not the best lawns in the neighborhood.
Pros: Durable, Vibrant Color

We have tried winter overseeding with basic annual rye grass for several seasons, because reseeding our tall fescue lawn in the fall has just been too much trouble. In our area (North Carolina), we have hard clay and need core aeration prior to seeding with fescue, plus the seedlings have to be babied with frequent watering, starter fertilizer, etc. For folks with large yards, that's a lot of work and expense.
Annual rye, though is a different story - just throw it out and it grows! We'd been looking for a ryegrass that had some dwarf features, since regular annual rye grows slowly all winter long in our climate and then goes crazy in the spring, needing mowing twice a week.
This Barenbrug product does live up to its promises - it's a darker green than other ryes we've tried, has a nice finer texture, and it does grow more slowly than the average rye grass. Due to the fact that we planted it a bit late in the season (early November) and then had early frosts followed by the coldest winter in years, we did not have good germination, and some of the grass did not have much chance to grow before being hit with very low temperatures - but that was our fault; this fall we will sow seeds in October.
The grass that DID survive, though, looked great. Plus, when warm weather came, the growth rate increased but did not have that weedlike growth-explosion that we've encountered in the past. (However, Panterra DOES grow faster than tall fescue).
We plan to use this product again - although it's more expensive than many of the other annual ryes, it's worth it due to the grass quality and hours of mowing saved.
Pros: excellent color and texture, does not have a "weedy" appearance, easier to establish than fescue
Cons: growth is not as slow as fescue, must be replanted every year
