Excellent Dishwasher for my apartment

,
October 13, 2009
By JohnInNY

"I live in an apartment, small but nice. This dishwasher suits my needs perfectly. Its incredibly quiet. My dishes and utensils look new when they come out of the machine.
I must admit that at times stacking can be an issue, however for the money and cleanliness factor its a great buy."

"I haven't had a dishwasher in 6 years and I was SO EXCITED to finally get one. I read lots of reviews but I didn't find any dishwasher that got consistently good reviews. In fact, most of the reviews I read were negative, so I chose this one because my other appliances are GE, and the price was good. I have had this dishwasher about a month.
I like the Clean Steel panel, which is indeed easy to keep clean and fingerprint-free.
The dishwasher does a good job of cleaning dishes. I haven't found anything dirty at the end of the cycle, which was a problem with the last one I had (in a rental home). I tend to pre-rinse my dishes at least somewhat, because I live alone and they often sit in the dishwasher a couple of days before I have a full load. I have not tested anything baked or really disgusting yet.
I don't like that wineglasses are too tall to fit on the top rack, and that the top rack can't be lowered. I seem to have more trouble fitting things in than I remember with my old dishwasher.
The dishwasher has a light that says "Clean" after the cycle ends, but to get it to turn off, you must open and close the door completely. The door does need a deliberate shove to close all the way, so that light sometimes stays on even when the dishwasher has been emptied and reloaded. Not a problem for me, but in a multi-person household I suppose it could be confusing, especially if you pre-rinse your dishes.
My biggest disappointment is that the heated dry function does not work very well. I expected plastic items to come out damp from my experience with my previous dishwasher, but even bowls and glasses are still damp. This isn't just right after the cycle finishes - I've found wet dishes even 24 hours after the cycle has ended. I think I'm going to try "no heat" and see if there is even a difference.
The dishwasher does have an end of cycle beep, which I wish was optional. Other than that, it operates very quietly, especially compared with my old dishwasher. I was so interested in getting the delay feature, but now I'll probably never use it, because it hardly makes any noise."

don't waste your money

"This dishwasher is the worst I've ever seen. We've had problems with it since day one, now it is 1.5 yrs old, past the warranty and I'm going to buy a new one, somewhere else tomorrow. The control panel does not work and we have to slam it shut multiple times every time we use it because it will stop working mid cycle (every cyle) and does not clean disher well either. It also broke within the first motnh (the little arm that spins on the top to clean the dishes with a jet stream) very cheap and not worth it"

Good

"We bought this dishwasher to update our kitchen and it is great! We previously had an older GE black dishwasher (about 10 yrs. old) and this one is much quieter and does not take as long to run. Also, it seems larger and can fit more dishes on the bottom. My only complaint is that even if you select the heated dry, SOMETIMES you have have a couple of water droplets on the dishes and glasses if you open the dishwasher up right after it runs. Other than that it has been great so far!"

Good Dishwasher

"This dishwasher is very quiet and spacious. The 3 sets of jets get my dishes very clean as long as there is no stuck-on food. I installed myself and it was very simple to do. The only drawback I've found is that the jets lack power, but overall very satisfied given the price. Looks very nice!"

Does NOT clean

,
April 15, 2009
By livewithoutdebt

"I've had it 1.5 years now and it does not clean the dishes very well. We have to check each dish before putting them away, and half of them go straight to the sink. This dishwasher also takes 2 hours to run. We are going to buy a new dishwasher. We have friends that want a new dishwasher, and I won't even give this one to them when we replace it, because I wouldn't do that to my friends! That's how much I dislike this dishwasher. It was a complete waste of our money and I really just want a refund."

Save on water, dirty dishes

"We purchased this from Home Depot 5 months ago and have not been pleased with it's cleaning power. I feel like I need to wash the dishes before I put them in this washer in order for them to get clean. It also seems to take a good 2 hours to run a cycle. I would not recommend this product."

Horrible/Terrible etc!!!!

"This dishwasher is Horrible. The door control panel does not work properly We have had this dishwasher for 2 years and over the last 2 years the control panel just stopped working. We have had to slam the door open it and close it. press multiple buttons and pray to the dish washing gods that this terrible excuse of a dishwasher will work. I would never purchase this kind again. We have had to have the service tech to our house twice already and it seems they can not fix this."

Nice dishwasher

"Bought the unit over a year ago and couldnt be happier with it. It is very quiet, does a great job cleaning dishes, only once or twice have we had to re-wash a dish. The controls are a bit odd, and take a while to get used to. It was easy to install, and I have had no problems with leaking or drainage. Love the clean steel finish, and the utensils caddy inside is perfect for coffee lids, oversized utensils etc...
Overall it is a very nice dishwasher, well worth the $400+ we spent on it. I would definitely recommend it."

Good value

,
December 23, 2008
By StuartC

"I bought this dishwasher based on the reviews and I have not been disappointed. It is inexpensively made but it washes dishes well. We occasionally pre-rinse out of habit (that was a necessity with the new Kenmore we had before this dishwasher) but it is not necessary. Somewhat noisy but not obnoxious, I highly recommend it if you are looking for an economical dishwasher that actually washes dishes. One hint: there is no need to select the drying function; the dishes dry well without it."

disappointed with performance

,
December 5, 2008

"Unfortunately I looked at the reviews prior to purchase and saw that it seemed to be a good dishwasher. My experience has not been so. It does not dry well at all. I thought my 10 year old dishwasher left too many wet dishes and was excited to get a new one. Well... this dishwasher leaves my dishes wetter even after the heated dry cycle. Things that would not have been left wet before (in my old dishwasher) are with this one. I am so disappointed. It arrived with the basket broken (had to be replaced), and I've since noticed it was installed without the front kick plate (not noticable while standing but can be seen if you get down on the same level, as we often do with our toddler). We've had it for 1 month and already the top rack is rusting. I'm calling GE today to see about replacing it. Don't waste your money."

Sleek Dishwasher

,
October 10, 2008
By MyGoodFinds

"We have a functional dishwasher which we really haven't used for the last 7 years but since we are selling the house, we wanted to put in matching stainless steel appliances for the kitchen. This dishwasher fits the bill. The design is fabulous both inside and out. Very sleek and stylish appearance. It's silent compared to the 15 year old one. The clean steel is awesome for easy clean up. The 3 level "sprayer" is a much needed improvement to really give a good rinse. Energy Saver is a big plus not only is it Earth friendly, electricity rates went up tremendously.
We shopped around from different suppliers and Home Depot gave the best deal on the total cost with delivery and installation. When we decided to buy a dishwasher, it follows that we are going to get the matching range and microwave.

For the money it is OK

,
October 7, 2008

"After reading the reviews I opted to go with this less expensive dishwasher. For the money it is OK, but if you want something really good, spend the money on something better.
The Plus is that the racks that hold the dishes are great and allow for a lot of room.
My dishwasher was 14 years old and was just a little louder than this new one I bought. I was really hoping for something that was quite.
Although it states that all you need to do is scrape the food off and it will come clean, I did not find this to be true. I always pre rinse the dishes as my 14 year old diswasher could not clean this way. I decided to give it a try with the new one and put it to the test, it failed. The residue from the food was still on the dishes. I did have better results with the pots and pans wash cleaning the residue off.....but it stated that a normal wash would get it clean.
I do not like the green light that states a clean wash....it seems to stay on all the time and never go off.
The door does not close properly. It looks fine but does not line up. This is probably an isolated incident.
I will have to keep it, but wish I had spent the money on a better one.
Thanks. Again it is OK for the money.....but should preform as stated and I did not find that to be true.

Good for the money

,
September 13, 2007

"Good dishwasher for the money - especially for a stainless steel front panel.
The utility baskets divider slots do a great job of keeping the forks and spoons from nesting together.
The top rack is not adjustable so I do hvae to put my large stock and spaghetti pots on the bottom rack. They do not block the flow of water to the top shelf because this is a towerless dishwasher. Pots and pans can be put on the top or the bottom and still get the whole load clean.
It will not clean off baked on food messes. Still have to preclean the lasagna pan before putting it in.
The dishwasher is a little bit noisy, but you do not have to leave the kitchen to have a conversation.
I am happy with this dishwasher at this price. Note, that if I had more money to spend I would have bought a different one."

Good dishwasher

,
August 20, 2007
By DavidKay
from Fairfax, VA
"I just got this dishwasher last week. It works great even some dishes have some dry food partcles on them, quiter than my previous model (GE Nautilus), good front looking stainless steel/ no fingerfrint magnets. It has all the options as you need in term of dishashing.
The price is good if you compare with ge MONOGRAM OR PROFILE. Finally, I decided go with this because Monogram or Profile cost as much twice with some more options like stainless steel drum, extra some more option like delay more hours washing (GHDA485 has 2 delays), a couple more washing options. With all options I mention above I think that higher end dishwasher do not deserve 500 to 800 $ more.
Absolute recommend to all buyers.
