"First, Edsal is a low quality company now and many of their items have gone down in quality in the past year or two. I used to buy their Gorilla Racks, which were absolutely the best shelving you could buy at a chain store, but the quality dropped dramatically in the past year or so.
This shelving system is decent for the price but the weight limit is extremely exaggerated. I would suggest a weight limit of 200 lbs on these cheap particle board shelves. They will bow quite a bit with just 200 lbs on them. Many others are also commenting on this.
As far as the metal frame, it is ok. I don't like that it is piece together and the posts are not solid pieces. Again, 4,000 lb weight limit is greatly exaggerated...
I would only buy this if you need cheap shelving and only need to put less than 200 lbs on each shelf. They also do not put anything on the bottoms of posts to protect flooring so these are only good on concrete."

"I bought one of these shelves for the garage a few weeks ago and I liked it so well I just bought another. It's easy to assemble without tools (a rubber mallet is handy to have, though), is sturdy, well built and well engineered. I'd definitely recommend this product."

"The steel framework itself is very impressive, the individual shelves themselves are clearly the weak point of this system. Total system support is listed at 4,000 lbs, suggesting that each shelf would need to hold about 800 lbs of material. However, if I as a 200 lb man attempt to put my weight on any individual shelf, it buckles severely and I had a crack form in one corner of the shelf.
System assembles rapidly, and securely. As mentioned, the steel frame itself is of excellent quality, but I would be astonished if I ever manage to get anywhere near 4,000 lbs onto this system without the shelves all collapsing.
I wish I could rate the Quality of the shelves and the Quality of the frame separate. The frame would get a 5-star rating. The shelves a 2-star rating.

"Bought this unit and the 18" deep unit also, about 3 weeks ago. I like the simple setup design although some pieces wouldn't fit together without some bending ,which was hard to do, but was done without scratching it all up. A few days after loading up the shelves of the 24" deep model with quart jars of food we had canned, we noticed the shelves sinking in the middle from about 200 lbs. of quart and pint jars. They advertise a 4000 lb capacity which would be 800 lbs per shelve. The shelves are made of 3/8" pressed sawdust. I will have to buy a sheet of plywood and replace the shelves so we can store our jars of tomatoes, beets, pickles and such. I don't believe the sawdust shelves would safely hold even 100 lbs of jars without caving in over a long period of time. A shelf of 1/2" plywood should solve any weight problems. 5/8" plywood may be better for storing other heavier stuff. The frame of this unit should be fine ."

"The product is very sturdy and more than sufficient for almost any home use. The installation is very easy. I showed my 5 year old and 10 year old son how to install one shelf and they were able to do the rest themselves (except placing the shelves which are heavy for those ages). It can be taken appart very easily as well and heights of shelves adjusted. The top shelf could be left off to store even taller items. Purchased in store. One of the long brackets was missing from the sealed package and I therefore called EDSAL. They mailed me two sizes of the missing bracket because recently they discontinued one model and began another (difference in size is fractions of an inch); no questions asked and they offered to send both sizes themselves so that I would have to avoid calling again and waiting for a second shipment if they part didn't precisely fit. No charge on shipping the missing part. It can also be taken appart and used as a work bench (two shorter storage units) rather than one tall unit. Strongly recommend this product for any home use and even for some commercial use."

"We have four of these - 2 from a different brand and 2 of these Edsal branded units from Home Depot... These were worlds easier to put together because they come with clips that help stabilize the tall pieces which have to be stacked. It would obviously be better if the 72-inch corner pieces were all one piece, but since you are stacking them, the little clips make a big difference."

"When I bought my house 14 years ago, I bought one of these shelf units; it was GREAT! I just bought another one and it is NOT SO GREAT. The shelving material is a bit thinner than its earlier version and arrived dinged on the surface in many locations and with some of the corners nicked. The vertical beams were not true to 90 degrees and had to be bent somewhat before the connectors would fit. Once assembled, it looks fine and works; but this is NOT as good a product as it once was, and assembly became a knuckle bruiser. Go for the one that's a bit pricier."

"2 problems with these shelves. You can't pick them up to move by an cross members. My major fault is that they are wider than 48". I am using them in a room that is 49.5" and I can barely wiggle them so the beams will slide down into the slots. Overall these shelves are what you would expect, strong and durable."

"This product is a case of getting what you pay for. We purchased 5 sets of shelves for our garage reorganization project. Of the 5 sets, one had missing parts, another had incorrect parts (wrong length) and the remaining three were not consistently constructed (shelf mounting holes were punched at inconsistent intervals resulting in uneven shelf heights between units). The powdercoating on the metal parts also varied between kits from too thick to too thin (metal showing through paint).
We have to return one out of five kits (or get new parts), but the rest we managed to bang together with a hammer. Most of the issues we experienced are a result of poor quality control. Aside from the MDF shelving being a little thin (3/8", bows with heavy weight) the shelves are a decent value for the price, IF they are built and delivered as intended.
If you are looking for consistent quality, try another brand."

"The unit is very easy to assemble. I have several of the units in my home. The shelves don't hold much so I have added support on some of the shelves. I have not weighed what I put on the shelves and have not organized items on the shelves for weight. The newer design does not allow a shelf at the intersection of the vertical supports (legs). So you have to plan on not having a shelf over about a six inch area in the middle of the unit. Besides the need to add support for the shelves good product."

"We use dozens of these shelves in our warehouse and they work great. My only complaint about the Edsal shelves is the raised finish on them prevents labels or for adhering to the metal well (we have tried using tape and glue to attach labels but nothing seems to work well). The WorkForce shelving that HomeDepot used to sell had a flat finish that labels adhered to without a problem (the labels are for labeling rows / columns to organize the warehouse)"

"This unit was not too hard to put together, just the upright connectors were alittle hard to put on. The unit is sturdy and looks great when put together. I like that you can have different figurations with this unit. The only thing that could be improved on is the quality of the boards. Some of them had chipped edges and didn't look real great when put in the unit."
