Best AC Home Depot Ever Sold!

,
October 20, 2011
By Schatzie
"Has Dry Mode to remove humidity when the temperature is below cooling temperature and you are in a HUMID area.
This AC shuts off just like a central air and is the quitest of the big AC's, Takes a while to install, but it is worth installing. Took me about ten hours, removing old AC and doing a great job rerplacing unit/rebuilding and sealing unit much better than old was. Oct 2011.

Must put together before use.

"The air conditioner works very well. The set up is a pain. It took us two hours to get it ready to use. First you have to take the outer shell of the unit apart. Put it in the window and screw all the attachments to it! An air condtioner should come ready not to be assembled. After 2 hours of unscrewing the screws, attaching a brace, attaching all the hardware, we were able to put the until in the window."

Noisy

,
March 10, 2011
By pageaz

"This is a big unit compared with smaller12000 btu window air conditioners. Installation is difficult with very poor instructions. I installed this unit along with a 1200 btu Kenmore 70121. The Kenmore was a 30 minute insulation vs 2 plus hours of trial and error with the LG unit.
WARNING the amount of noise 60dB from the LG is 10 times the noise of many 52 dB units. (Every 8 dB is 10X more or less noise). I would not recommend this any closer than 40 feet of a TV room or dinning room where you want quiet. The actual air conditioner does a great job of cooling large areas but much depends on your climate on how large of an area it cools. Phoenix Arizona it may only cool a master bedroom but Pennsylvania it may cool a 1600 sq, foot home.

Big Chiller

,
January 27, 2011
By BSurr

"This is a large air conditioner and it does put out a lot of cold air. The down sides are that it is loud, especially for a bedroom, and it is heavy. Installation is tricky because of its weight and the tiny mounting brackets that are much too small to hold it in place. If you have it on energy-saver mode, it will turn on and off often, which is disturbing at night. All together, it does the job of cooling our master bedroom, we just have to let it cool down and turn it off before going to bed."

Excellent Value

"I just went to the Home Depot yesterday and purchased this model. I wanted the 18,000 btu, but it was out of stock even though the website said they had it in stock.
Anyways, I'm glad I got this one. It was very easy to install. One neighbor helped me put it in the window in 30 minutes. Great product, clean look, and puts out a lot of air.
The air is clean, blows hard and pretty darn quiet. I love the different settings, including the dry air, which is excellent in the humid area of South Louisiana.
I would highly recommend this purchase. It's a great value and in very good condition from the box."

"I am very pleased with this air coditioner. It is quiet and works great. The remote control makes it nice to bump the temp up or down from anywhre in the room. It also has a timer that can be set to turn the unit off automatically from the remote control on onthe control paneil."

"I was only disappointed that when I tried to use the product the fan was hitting againist the enclosure.
I hat to adjust the motor base got get it to work.
Another item was the shipping, as it showed damage after I opened the box. It was roughly handled and many dents and dings.
The ac is working great now.

The Cooler

,
August 8, 2010
By MHartz
"Read the reviews of this LG 15,000 BTU unit and decided it was the best for hot and humid Texas. Not only does it cool large areas, but with the optional energy saving settings you will see a major drop in you monthly electrical bill, all the while, you have the comfort of crisp cool air. Compared to the 12,000 BTU unit replaced, this LG unit is quieter, more effiecient and an energy saver. This is the largest unit you can buy that is compatible with standard outlets. A bit heavy, so you may need some assistance in the installation. My only regret, is not purchasing this unit sooner. The dry air setting does help on very high dew point days, which the Texas Hill country is experiencing this year. The Cooler should be LG's name for this big boy."

Just what we needed!!!

"This air conditioner is excellent. Cools down the house fast! Relatively quiet - it's an air conditioner its not meant to be silent. The only bad thing about this air conditioner is the brackets it came with. Just didn't feel comfortable using them - they were soooo small. I was afraid for as heavy as the air conditioner is, that it might fall. Otherwise - great investment!!!"

"Works well in the area we are using it. Keeps the room cool and the remote works well with the unit.
It would be nice if it were a little quieter, but long as it works- I'll put up with the noise."

Look for the owners manual!

,
July 22, 2010
By Badger00
from Wisconsin
"My older AirTemp 15,000 BTU window unit failed, and this LG has taken its place. Does not crank out as much frigid air as the old unit, but still seems to perform as advertised and is no doubt more efficient. Installation, as noted by others, can be tricky in that the manual is not greatly detailed. Also as noted, the owners manual had fallen back near the fan during shipping and was not visible. If I hadn't read these HomeDepot reviews beforehand, I would have turned on the unit and wondered what all the racket was! Be careful with plastic tabs on front grill. They are weak and break easily. Both of mine broke off during a challenging installation. Grill now secured with screws."

"after unpacking the air conditioner from the box and not finding the owners manual i was pretty disappointed but got online and printed it out then plugged the unit in to make sure it worked before installing it and it made a horrible noise so after the fan blade stopped spinning i stuck my hand in there to see what the blade was hitting and sure enough there was the owners manual and the batteries for the remote!! so i installed the unit and it cools off my entire house! i have it in the hottest room and it gets the job done! after reading alot of reviews people said they returned theres because it didnt have a manual and made a ton of noise, well now you know why!!"

Hot in Pittsburgh

,
July 10, 2010
By HateHumidity
from Pittsburgh, PA
"I have had the unit installed now for 2 days and this unit is fantistic! We were in the middle of a heat wave with temperatures reaching in the mid 90s. The hottest day was 97 degrees outside with temperatures reaching the same inside my home. I have a 1300 sq foot home and this unit took the temperature inside my house from 90+ degrees down to 68 degrees in 2 hours on high. I would definately recommend this unit. It's very powerful and does the job better than I expected. Of course it's not central air but I have ceiling fans in every room to help circulate the air. I also use A floor flan to direct some the of the cool air into other rooms. I can set the engery saver mode to 70 degrees and its just that on the hottest days. Great product!"

Very, Very Pleased!!

,
July 9, 2010
By HappyInJesus
from Atlanta, GA
"After our central a/c unit went out, we began to research window units because of how much it would cost to repair/replace our central unit. We knew we wanted to go with LG because of the quality of their products. We decided to go with the 24,500 btu LG but we discovered our home outlets would not work with that unit. So, we decided upon the 15,000 BTU and we could not be more pleased. This unit cooled our 400 square foot family room, in 96 degree weather at the hottest part of the day, within 20 minutes. It gets colder than our central unit used to. We have even had to turn it down because it gets so cold. Installation was not difficult at all. We are absolutely pleased. This is one of the best investments we've made."

this thing rocks

,
July 7, 2010
By azimmey
from Baltimore MD.
"Waited 2 years to write a review and now I can say "BUY" all except for the glavanized shroud for the fan that seems engineered to rust this thing is a beast.
I keep it set on 76 degrees on a second floor room on a 3 story house that is open to other rooms on same floor and the power saver kicks in to keep it perfectly at 76 degrees. And keeps the 3 other rooms attached to it at about 80 with BIG windows which is not terrible.
The power saver makes the unit shut off when it hits the desired temperature and then the fan runs every couple of min. to test the air I call it and when it needs to come on it does.
Fridgadaire units have power save but when they shut off they stay off for some time and room temp goes way up before ac comes back on. I have to point a fan at the fridgadaire to make the power saver work half right.
It is noisy so don't let anyone tell you different so just don't use it in your TV room or bedroom but otherwise this thing runs circles around the other guys. For 349.00 This thing rocks.

does great job but...

,

"Easy installation, great cooling but...the plastic tabs that hold the face on broke off during installation. Four "lock nuts" were stamped steel instead of solid. Picky I know, but changing these minor problems would make major improvement in the product. I screwed the face on. Stronger plastic tabs would have kept me from having to do this."

Very good - once you get it installed

,
July 5, 2010
By Rachett
from Colorado Springs, CO
"We recently purchased this to cool a significant sized room (25x20 w/ vaulted ceilings) until we are able to purchase a 2nd central air unit for the house (we currently have central air for the top floor of our 3 story house). The unit works great now that it is installed. It cools the entire first floor, which is ~1300sq.ft. - stays at 68degrees even on 90+ degree days.
The only issue we had with this is that it was very difficult to install due to the fact that if it is not exactly level, the fan gets tilted and it makes a very loud noise. But, once we got it level it works great."
