Dear John:
That would depend on the handle in question. Some of our lever-type handles are held in place by a pinch bolt located on the underside of the handle's hub, while others are held in place by a front-mounted screw that can be accessed by prying off the dust cover.

Can't be sure without a picture, but generally there is a cap with a logo on it. Pop it off with a small flat screwdriver, and then a single Phillips-head screw secures the handle. Unscrew it and you are all set.

Yes it does. When you purchase this TA-10 flow-control spindle, the hot and cold gaskets come pre-installed.

Dear Jim:
My suggestion would be to contact our customer service team directly at 1-800-796-6667 so that a live customer service representative can assist you. When you do, it would be helpful if you could tell them what the original problem was that necessitated the original spindle replacement, as well as how old the original installation is. Though no doubt frustrating, I can assure you that this sounds like a fairly minor adjustment that we should be able to assist you with in short order.

Many thanks!

Question

Piston is jammed

Asked by
Sminthian
about Temptrol Spindle Assembly on
November 15, 2013
I had to replace my spindle about 8 months ago. Now, the piston is jammed and the new one isn't working either. There's a lifetime warranty on this? Can I just bring it back to the store or do we have to deal with Symmons directly?

Dear Sminthian:
Our TA-10 flow-control spindles are designed for years of trouble-free service. To have two fail in such a short period of time is unusual, and could be due to water quality issues on site. My suggestion at this juncture is to submerge the stuck spindle in a bath of simple household vinegar for thirty minutes to dissolve any particulates that may have built up on the metal surfaces, followed by a couple of sharp taps to the bottom of the spindle on a block of wood. if this frees the inner piston, you should be all set. If not, you can contact Symmons customer service at 800-796-6667, let them know you've performed the required maintenance, and that you need a replacement TA-10 under warranty.

Sincerely,
Shane

Replaced Spindle Assembly but Still Leaking When Turned Off

Asked by
Will1313
about Temptrol Spindle Assembly on
November 23, 2014
I replaced the spindle assembly as I had a shower head that was leaking when the water was completely turned off. The new spindle is doing the same thing. What could be causing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the leak is minor, you may want to allow a few days for the black rubber hot and cold gaskets that were pre-installed on your TA-10 spindle to expand to their full height. If this does not work, or if the leak is substantial, then I recommend you contact Symmons customer service directly as there are numerous factors that may be contributing to this situation. Generally, these types of issues are easily resolved. You can reach our CS team by phone at 800-796-6667, or via email at csi@symmons.com

Replacement may be the answer. I suggest you turn off the water at the main, then remove the spindle and check for wear and build up of sediment deposits, these can build up over time and make it difficult to shut off the water. If you need replacement, bring into the store the original, and hopefully the store will have the replacement.
